Certain enemies don’t contribute at all, like Red and Blue Bokos/Lizalfos/Moblins and their Stal equivalents, Chuchus, Keese, Stone Pebblits, and wildlife like foxes, bears, etc. Because the Blight Ganons contribute so much to the World Level, they give the illusion that beating a Divine Beast automatically upgrades enemies.

“The more you fight lynels the better you get at defeating them” this is 100% true I used to be scared of them so I fought a lynel for the first time I died 2 times and 1 day later I can kill a silver lynel without dying once. I recommend using miphas grace it’s very useful sometimes when you backflip the lynel can still hit you so if you die you’ll be revived.
same. i've been wanting to try fighting lynels more, but i didn't want to jump straight to the silver ones. unfortunately, aside from the red one in zora's domain, every lynel i run into is silver lololol
@purplerains yup exactly what i did i went from red lynels to the white maned ones i was scared to kill them before but now after i got a lot of divine beasts they upgraded and i kill every one i see
I used to be scared of Lynels when I first started playing. Now I avoid them because they break all of my weapons. Risk vs. Reward on whether I want their weapons enough to lose all of mine.
Amother trick, when you dismount them, they run in the direction they are facing. This is the order: Dismount > they run away > they return but not attack > they run away again > they return to attack. If you dismount them and run away, you have a chance to autoaim with your bow, and hit them in the face when they are returning but not attacking. If you hit them, then you run to mount them again and repeat this process. I ended up using like 25-30 arrows and not a single durability point out of my double handed sword. Although I did break my soup pot shield...

@@zogworth parry, reposte, counter or reflect, however you want to call it... yes. There is a particular frame timing to it, but you can in fact block and counter the beam right back at the guardians. It works on ALL guardians
"The level of Lynels depend on how many Divine Beasts you've freed and how many Lynels you've killed" I should have looked at this video before going on a murder spree of White-Maned Lynels😭
turn out I'm kind of right, but kind of wrong. Enemies upgrade based on how many enemies you kill in total. Some enemies just count more than others, divine beasts being the ones that count the most.... But you kill those lynels!
Well in reality, the game have a hidden ranking system where it records your XP by killing monsters. Once your XP have met, the monsters will rank up including stronger variable weapons with yellow modifiers. I haven't started the Divine Beast quest on Master Mode. I realize the enemies just ranking up from blue to silver due to amount of XP I have.
The level of the lynel depends on how many mobs you killed, each mob gives a different amount of points - the divine beasts bosses just give a lot of points, so it seems like they are the only factor
Here's a tip to interrupt a Lynel that has his bow out and drawn arrows ready to snipe you. If you can quickly use stasis + on the Lynel and quickly use your own bow to hit the Lynel anywhere on it's body not just including the face of course, it will be staggered temporarily after it comes out of stasis +. You can then walk up to the Lynel to force it to change to it's melee weapon where it can be scuessfully hit in the face again to stun it to where you can do whatever you want to damage it.
2 more things to add on to this great video: 1. I'm pretty sure that you can't stun the lynel by shooting its face if it has its bow out. you will do extra damage, but it won't stagger. It has happened to me but I'm not 100% sure if this is true. 2. After the lynel roars to perform the fire slam move, a more bold player can run right up to its face and shoot the lynel right before it attacks (in the face to stun). This is because there is a crucial moment where the lynel is stationary. However, if you miss or don't make it in time, chances are you'll take massive damage from the attack. Thus, you should only try this if you know what you're doing or if you have means of revival/many hearts. Hope this helps!
Actually I knew that sometimes he didnt get stunned.. but I didn't realize that he doesnt get stunned while they're using the bow. Thanks for the info! hearted for hopefully to get some eyeballs on this
Furthermore, in expert mode, against Golden Lynels, an explosion attack will cost you at least 28 hearts even if your armor gear is at 60 (ex. fully upgraded barbarian gear). So consider turning mypha’s ability on and bearing fairies or it will be instant game over. :) UPDATED However you will be able to survive a lynel explosion if you have a 88 armor combined with LVL 3 protection+ with only 4 hearts (you suffer 26 hearts of damage) Damn! (Without the LVL 3 protection you die)
Time to Tango! Harmony what if you use even better armor, like fully upgraded Amber Earrings, Champions Tunic, and Soldier’s Greaves? That gets your armor to 88.
A safer way is to Stasis hit them before they unleash the fire slam attack, but it staggers them a lot less than face shots, meaning no mounting them for you. It’s a reliable tactic for if you’re not confident in your archery skills.
0:42 be careful, the lynel in ploymus moutain attack you on sight (doesn’t stare you down). Also, pulling out your weapon at a far distance (when he have no melee weapon out) will make him simply draw his bow, unless he already have his bow out) at that distance, swinging your melee weapon will make him attack.
@@100PercentZelda Reason for plymus moutain lynel to have a different AI is so that Link has to get the shock arrows using stealth if players don’t want to fight. A stare down of 30 seconds is way to generous.
I already fought several lynels but I still chose to watch this. Mainly because the last one I fought used the sword shield swipe move which I didn’t encounter with the weaker lynels so I wanted to learn a better way to dodge because I had a hard time getting a perfect dodge.
GamingBros XL once he forces you off, pulling out the Paraglider slows your descent, making it easier to activate Bullet Time. But Bullet Time doesn’t require the Paraglider, just for you to be falling.
another thing if y'all were wondering, while a lynel is building up any of its fire attacks, if you shoot it in the face as shown it can negate the fire burst and stop the build up from happening, also stunning the Lynel.
I bought the game/switch like a month ago and these bullies have killed me so many times that i thought i was missing something, but i just killed my first lynel thanks to your video, thanks mate
If you consecutively parry the fire balls and get close enough(like in front if his face), the next parried fireball will recoil the lynel. Just a useless info considering how you can just shoot em in the face but pretty cool to pull off just for fun! Based from my experiences with lynels they only do a 2nd AoE attack when they're half way through their health and the best ways to deal with this move is to stasis then hit em to knock em off of their AoE attack but if stasis is still loading then the next best option is like in the video, parry! Still unsure if they can do more than 2 AoE attacks in a fight. I think i've had a lynel that did 3 in one fight.
Fun tip with the lynel roar jump, if you jump at the same time the explosion hits your shield, it’ll recalculate your jump height. So you can jump a second time and go into bullet time!
It is important to note that in order to get a flurry rush you have to jump while the lynel is swinging its weapon towards you, not to actually dodge its weapon’s hurtbox. You can get cut in half and still get a flurry rush and take no damage, and you can dodge its weapon perfectly and not get a flurry rush. This is because in order to dodge the weapon, you need to jump before the lynel is in its attacking phase, meaning before its weapon has an active hurtbox. This will not grant a flurry rush. In order to get a flurry rush however, you need to jump after the lynel’s weapon has activated its hurtbox. When you do this, the game grants you a flurry rush and turns off the hurtbox of the weapon, allowing you to get hit while in a flurry rush without taking damage. This does not protect you from other enemies’ attacks, however. The goal of a flurry rush is not to dodge the weapon, but rather to jump while an active hurtbox exists. The flurry rush timing is completely whack, but once you learn how it works it becomes quite easy to pull off.
That explanation genuinely helps so much. Im able to pull them off a lot but not consistently and the timing always confused me because i would dodge before they started to swing thier weapon and miss the attack but not pull off a flurry rush. Hopefully i can pull it off more now
Thank you so much! I was so intimidated by these things when went up to Ploymus Mountain and even as much trial and error, I was still struggling. Watching this gave me a much better idea of how to fight Lynels. I'll be sure to come back to it whenever I need a refresher! ^w^
I just started my master mode playthrough on this game in preparation for age of calamity and tried my hand on my first lynel, the one on we see in the Vah Ruta quest line. It took a while, but I got him. But had I known your tips, it would have gone much smoother. Really thankful for this. I am sure a lot of people will find it helpful.
You can backflip to flurry rush the lynel crusher spin attack? Would you look at that, something I didn't know despite hours of lynel hunting! I usually just parry when I feel ballsy or move away.
Lynels are a great challenge, in fact, i had fun fighting my first one. Even though it took 2.5 hours to get 19 perfect parries and perfect bow shots and a lot of Y button presses, i did it. It is quite rewarding.
My first lynel was super frustrating, defeated him after a lot, and i mean a lot, of trying. After that I noticed my dodging got better. So after some hours of gameplay I decided to try and take on more lynels. The red and blue ones are kinda fun now honestly. So keep trying!!!! If you aren’t good at dodging I suggest practicing with some low level enemies, just try to dodge their attacks
ive taken a long break from playing botw and before then i wasnt scared of lynels but now after a while ive gotten scared again. thanks for the video it helped me gather the courage again :)
The first time I even encountered a Lynel it was the silver one in the coliseum. I stood on the highest level where it couldn’t detect me, lured it out with remote bombs, and picked it off with arrows shot from a phrenic bow. It took thirty minutes and all my arrows. I’ve since learned this is neither the easiest nor the right way to do this.
Once i upgraded my barbarian armor set, the Lynel on ploymus mountain only did around a single heart of damage with every swing! Im pretty sure you can take even less with the champions tunic, so I highly recommend upgrading your armor.
never knew you can hide from the spinning swing by chilling under the lynel’s stomach lol hopefully they get new attacks and get stronger in botw 2 cuz i basically eat them for all meals now and i miss the challenge they used to give
I think the biggest issue a lot of people have is similar to the issue people have when fighting Souls bosses. It's a big intimidating monsters that can hit you hard for a lot of damage. It's very punishing if you do get hit and therefore most people just end up afraid of fighting. With enemies/bosses like this you need to remember that it all comes down to pattern recognition, reaction, and experience. You obviously aren't going to be crushing them on your first attempt, but that's why it's important not to be afraid of them. Fight big scary things, get killed, learn, come back stronger. Most scary fights in games can be broken down just like the Lynels where they have a few unique attributes/behaviors and a set of 4 or 5 attacks. Once you figure it out you're golden! Definitely respect enemies and bosses and the fact that they can destroy you if you don't know what you're doing or you're overconfident, but don't be afraid of them.
While the Lynel charges up an 'Explosion' (as i call it) a bold player can parry the attack, or shoot it in the face, also, for Crusher Lynels crouching next to them makes them do a spin attack, go underneath their bellies, go in for a counter attack, parrying/flurry rushing just kills everything, everything you know is usless as long as you just flurry rush everything, i wish this video wasn't made years after the game came out.
I've always had a rough time engaging crusher-armed lynels using crushers myself. Nearly every time landing one or two hits on him, even with jump cancelling, there's just not enough time to switch to shield to parry their horizontal spin attacks. Occasionally, on certain positions close to the lynel I might receive a light hit which lets me remain standing inside its spin and thereby avoiding its usual blow-back hit that attack is meant to deliver. I haven't pin-pointed that yet. Anyway, if I can just squat underneath it to avoid any hit altogether, that's cheesy but I'll take it.
You can also shoot them in the face before they do both their fire ball attacks since there is a pause when they’re still while they’re charging up. This allows you to stun them and jump on their back. If he’s doing the explosion like fire ball attack and you’re behind him you can shoot him in the back of the head to stun him but the hit box is a little hard to aim at with him mane covering it.
I once shot him in the head while he was charging at me too, which does seem to have too many benefits since it’s really hard and the furry rush is easier to do and does more damage. I don’t really care about weapon durability since I just kill more lynels whenever I’m running low on weapons.
Gold lynels are pretty easy (for me) every time I see a blood moon I end up going on a gold lynel killing spree and I get a lot of good weapons like the savage lynel sword (that does 100 DMG if you get lucky with the attack up boost)
I used to be terrified of Lynels and avoid them whenever possible. Then I realized as long as I saved before, there was no loss in dying. I still make sure I have some hearty food on hand, but now enjoy fighting them.
They’re pretty easy to beat once you know most of their patterns. I mostly die because of get greedy damage like using my arrows against him until i get punished for it. You’re main uses is to use parry and dodge and use the strongest weapon when you mount a lynel for extra damage. Or you can take the easy way out and just use ancient arrows on them although you wont get any items from them (understandably) At the end of the day, I’ve grown to enjoy fighting them. I feel like they’re very fair and all of the damage you take happens because of your mistakes. And you always get rewarded if you dont use ancient arrows. They’re challenging but very fair imho
Don't tell me what to do. Only I know how I feel. If I am scared then that is my choice. It is my choice to be scared. Just stop telling people not to be scared of big Lynels.
I run or i parry, after i parry i quickly shoot him in the face to stun him then use my highest damage weapon to mount and hit as it doesnt take durability off of the weapon
So, it's a pretty rare attack to happen, but all lynels also do the leaping slam attack. It's a bit dependent on the terrain, as if you move the fight to areas with a bit of verticality, it's a bit more likely to happen. The crusher lynel becomes extra dangerous as the aoe on the shockwave is massive and shatters shields instantly
What bothers me so much about the lynels is how underwhelming the ACTUAL bosses are by comparison. But then I suppose that's the bosses' fault. Like you'd think the blights would be so tough they'd make you wish you were fighting a gold lynel instead. Then calamity Ganon is so tough that he makes you wish you were fighting his 4 blights at once instead.
I agree the bosses should be tougher (including overworld bosses, they are a joke but still get a boss healthbar) but if they were as hard as gold lynels then casual/younger players couldn't beat them. I think in master mode and the champions trials they should be buffed even more so that everyone can beat the game but if you want a real challenge the bosses will give you one. But even in normal mode Ganon should be harder, even in my first run when I couldnt beat Lynels I forgot to put on real armor and defeated him first try in the sneak armor. That shouldn't be possible...
I learnt to underestimate Lynels as my first fights with them are in the confined gatehouses of Hyrule Castle (their AI is so easily exploited within the tight space) When I fought them in open fields, that’s when I learnt to respect their power and study what they did more in depth
Today and last night were the first two times I defeated Lynels; the first one was for the "Lynel Safari" quest, and the second was at the Coliseum Ruins. Gotta love how evolved a player can get when pushed into a corner, especially when they have no choice to fight in order to get out of it.
You should play ocarina of time too. It’s an amazing game even though it’s aged some. It has the best and most emotional story and characters and also IMO the best dungeons too, they’re temples and they feel really meaningful. I love BOTW but Ocarina of Time is better
Thanks for this video! I was always getting hit by the charge + lateral swing and I wasn’t sure why, though it was the timing or something. Watched this video, problem solved!
This is the single most helpful video about fighting lynels I ever watched. I'm getting better and better, to the point I'm hunting them now. Thanks for making the game more fun.
Imagine if Lynels teleported behind you during one of their attacks. Like right before they do their ramming attack they teleport behind you or to your side. I think that would be awesome. I understand it would make fighting them way harder so it would be cool if only the silver and gold ones could do it.
Lynels look like the kind of creatures that you would interact with like Gorons or Zoras not just a tough enemy to fight. I wouldn’t mind some writer making it so
I remember when I first played breath of the wild and I did a small mission quest for these two guys and they mentioned a big horse in the woods and man when I saw this beast I was in for a treat , that thing wreck me back in the forest
They killed me straight away. I always thought how come there are so many Streamers can avoid the attacks just any time they face up the Guardians out there.
Love this! Very helpful..i love to fight various enemy but Lynel is the hardest n i have really hard time defeating them..thank you for the tips on stunning them
I do what you did at the end. Works really well. Particularly if you've already defeated one and have a multi shot now (I like using shock arrows). As long as you're decent with a bow you can take them.
There is one other attack I’ve found from a sword-wielding Lynel. Similar to the spear attack, they jump very high and slam their sword on the ground. I’ve fought a lot of Lynels (I mean a LOT) and I’ve only ever seen this once, so I thought it might be some kind of glitch or something, but it doesn’t seem like it. Has anyone else seen this?
Late to the game, but I’ve been playing BOTW for a few weeks now. Love it! Been practicing on my lynel fights. I usually have to eat a lot of hearty meals but can win. Finally, last night had a fight where I took minimal damage. Tried using my shield more to parry. Flurry rushes and shield parry’s. Made sure I put my two handed weapon away to pull out my shield in between attacks.
Thank you! I kept getting crushed and was scared to keep trying after the 5th attempt but I just went back to Shatterback mountain and finally took one down. Still scared of them but I might try fighting more often now.

When the lynel throws you off it’s back after you mount it aim for the neck area to get the critical arrow hit.
You can also use a Master Sword beam when you're thrown off. It does less damage, but it saves bow durability.

I used to be scared of Lynels when I first started playing. Now I avoid them because they break all of my weapons. Risk vs. Reward on whether I want their weapons enough to lose all of mine.
If you just use 1 arrow per stun and then mount them they barely use up anything since you don’t lose durability when mounted on them.
@@adamstadick2044 Thank you for that tip!
Amother trick, when you dismount them, they run in the direction they are facing. This is the order:
Dismount > they run away > they return but not attack > they run away again > they return to attack.
@user-ve3oc5mh9n this is very good when paired with shield block cancel bullet time (or shield jump cancel before getting the hylian shield)
if you do the combo you will lose one or 2 bad weapons for a good one so its a good trade. save the one with the most damage to hit it while mounted.

The level of the lynel depends on how many mobs you killed, each mob gives a different amount of points - the divine beasts bosses just give a lot of points, so it seems like they are the only factor
btw if a lynel does the fire explosion attack - you can just stasis him while hes holding his weapon up and he will stop his attack after stasis

I like this! Thanks!
2 more things to add on to this great video:
Thanks for the info! hearted for hopefully to get some eyeballs on this
It's true tho
Furthermore, in expert mode, against Golden Lynels, an explosion attack will cost you at least 28 hearts even if your armor gear is at 60 (ex. fully upgraded barbarian gear).
So consider turning mypha’s ability on and bearing fairies or it will be instant game over.
:)
UPDATED
However you will be able to survive a lynel explosion if you have a 88 armor combined with LVL 3 protection+ with only 4 hearts (you suffer 26 hearts of damage) Damn!
Thanks!
Also do I have to jump off his back before he forces me off if I want to shoot arrows at him mid air. Because I keep failing to do so.
Honestly, I would just watch lots of zelda videos of things that I might know already. But its cool hearing different things from different people =)

another thing if y'all were wondering, while a lynel is building up any of its fire attacks, if you shoot it in the face as shown it can negate the fire burst and stop the build up from happening, also stunning the Lynel.
I might finally get lynel weapons from this vid.

Yes I think this is right. Once the the beginning and one half way. I think he'll do one again eventually. Its fun to try and parry everything. Haha
The way you talk is so perfect like those old instructional videos
Haha thank you! That's the first time i heard that =P
Hopefully i can pull it off more now
This is my favorite video on your channel, next to the most powerful melee weapon.
Number one rule of Gold Lynels: Don't worry about defense buffs or extra hearts. They won't matter much. Just don't get hit.
Thank you so much! I was so intimidated by these things when went up to Ploymus Mountain and even as much trial and error, I was still struggling. Watching this gave me a much better idea of how to fight Lynels. I'll be sure to come back to it whenever I need a refresher! ^w^

You can flurry rush, but it's probably better to parry. if you dodge, you might get hit by the spin attack coming back around

You are so welcome. I appreciate this so much =)
The first time I even encountered a Lynel it was the silver one in the coliseum. I stood on the highest level where it couldn’t detect me, lured it out with remote bombs, and picked it off with arrows shot from a phrenic bow. It took thirty minutes and all my arrows. I’ve since learned this is neither the easiest nor the right way to do this.
if it works, it works!
First jump scares for me were probably the guardian next to that stasis(?) shrine and stepping on that stone talus on great plateau
Once i upgraded my barbarian armor set, the Lynel on ploymus mountain only did around a single heart of damage with every swing! Im pretty sure you can take even less with the champions tunic, so I highly recommend upgrading your armor.
never knew you can hide from the spinning swing by chilling under the lynel’s stomach lol
hopefully they get new attacks and get stronger in botw 2 cuz i basically eat them for all meals now and i miss the challenge they used to give
Thank you 😭
While the Lynel charges up an 'Explosion' (as i call it) a bold player can parry the attack, or shoot it in the face, also, for Crusher Lynels crouching next to them makes them do a spin attack, go underneath their bellies, go in for a counter attack, parrying/flurry rushing just kills everything, everything you know is usless as long as you just flurry rush everything, i wish this video wasn't made years after the game came out.
Good advice. Fear is the big loser when you face Lynel's. Standing firm with resolve in the face of terror is a challenge for many.
You can do it! =)
It's a hell of a lot easier to face terror when failing won't actually kill you in real life. But video games can still be scary.
3:03 Duck Under Their Belly -wtf never would occur to me
Haha yeah, it's an interesting strategy. Kind scary though
His*
I once shot him in the head while he was charging at me too, which does seem to have too many benefits since it’s really hard and the furry rush is easier to do and does more damage. I don’t really care about weapon durability since I just kill more lynels whenever I’m running low on weapons.
Doesn’t*
that's a good way to do it!
Gold lynels are pretty easy (for me) every time I see a blood moon I end up going on a gold lynel killing spree and I get a lot of good weapons like the savage lynel sword (that does 100 DMG if you get lucky with the attack up boost)
This Rly Helped Me Cuz Now Ill Be Braver To Fight Lynels!

Here I am, thinking I've seen all the tricks, but getting under a Lynel is brand new to me. Amazing.

I remember I used to be afraid of Lynels, now I just hunt them down out of boredom. That and also to farm shields.
Parry , arrow to face, mount, slow mo arrows jumping off mount: repeat until victorious.
They’re pretty easy to beat once you know most of their patterns. I mostly die because of get greedy damage like using my arrows against him until i get punished for it. You’re main uses is to use parry and dodge and use the strongest weapon when you mount a lynel for extra damage. Or you can take the easy way out and just use ancient arrows on them although you wont get any items from them (understandably)
At the end of the day, I’ve grown to enjoy fighting them.
Do what I say or else! 🙃🙃🙃
It was the running horizontal attack I was struggling with I kept trying to jump to the side rather than back. Thanks man!
Ya, idk how to deal with crusher lynel’s spinny attack.
Honestly, I never really tried parrying or dodging them I always just ran away. Just make sure you're not behind or beside them. They wont spin if so
I run or i parry, after i parry i quickly shoot him in the face to stun him then use my highest damage weapon to mount and hit as it doesnt take durability off of the weapon
You can parry it, but it's kinda tough. You can also crouch UNDER the lynel to avoid it, strangely enough.
Every time I backflip to escape the spin attack, it's never activated Flurry Rush.
4:12 this transition is so smooth 🔥

Because of this video, I went to running from Lynels to where I walk up to one and have them give me their loot after some percussive persuasion.

I wouldn’t mind some writer making it so
It would be nice if Lynels spot you, they walk up to you and challenge you to a duel via talking
