- The bad weather continues and we keep pushing on!
Today the tables were turned and we had to dodge between showers to catch some way over the top wind to get some practice in.
The idea was to try side to side control and identifying the various positions of the wing and how to get to and from. Didn't end up working out as a lot of practise for Gemma as it got too strong even for with the Seed.

good to see you were at work today again! good workers, these two ;-) parabums. Nice control in windy stuff. That B stall doesn't work on many wings, it leaves you with a wing not on the ground, yes reduced power, but what the hell do you do with it 5 ft off the ground and thrashin around? It needs real fast hands to jump from there to kill switch. I'd recommend always using Cs to kill it, that way you can get it onto the hard surface and run around it.
Greg Hamerton thanks for the tips Greg. We'll have to try it out wing by wind and see what happens. I agree, and I suppose it would have to be really really windy for Cs not to work and in that case you wouldn't be flying/launching anyway.
Gemma your progress is admirabl .....I best go practice .....only andree and you as my instructors so slow progress in U K weather.

I like the manoeuver when you touch a tip on a side and then you flip on ther other side. Very smoothly executed. Is that possible to do it with a regular wing or it has to be done on a speed riding wing ? Other question, does the sand hurt the wing ?
You can definitely do it the same on a full size wing. The difference is that it's much slower but, show be easier too. Yes sand in general is an abrasive and it's not great for the lines, cloth etc, especially for the protective coating on the cloth that makes it airtight.
Good day, I am so happy to see you working with my wing, what wind speed do you think that was? I agree that one should know your own ability and work with a certain wind, I think I saw it is rated for 45k is that correct or is that it's max forward speed? Thanks again I am smiling.
Cheers Peter! When gemma was doing it I think it was around 35-40km/h. When I was doing it maybe 40-45? I have an Anemometer that we wanted to use in the videos so show people real windspeed on each session but it broke on the first day! :/
Andre Bandarra OK yes that would be on the high end, I am learning with 10 to 15 mph just enough to keep me happy.
Would be great if you could give a real time reading of the wind strength and gusts during your videos.
Have you thought about making a vid on reserve techniques? I'm reading Kelly Farina's book and he talks about three techniques, cross-brakes, Mitsos, and three-axis. I'd love to see a breakdown of how the 3-axis is applied. I can't wrap my head around it by just reading his book.
I think it's a good idea but I'm not sure I know enough to cover it. I have my favourite technique myself and can do a handful of others but unfortunately I haven't had a chance to read Kelly's book. Maybe we could ask him as he does little videos on youtube all the time :)

@@chucklist3074 Good find! It looks like the first method is the usual, the mitsos again is well documented, and the 3 axis is like the mitsos on the As with one hand and the other hand is "free" to play around with the brakes from either side.
@@AndreBandarra1 Yeah, but how the one hand controls both brakes is not straightforward to me. I must be aeronautically challenged! Hopefully not for my employer's sake though ;)

I would like to know wich harness do you use.
I think it's an old Gin Yeti but I don't recommend it for Groundhandling. I think it's a hike and fly harness.
@@AndreBandarra1 what would you recomend for grounhandling and small flights to use with a wing kind of BDG seed?

@@turbulentillo wings for groundhandling and flying I'm not sure because I've never tried any but I suppose anything that is fairly small, like 14m2 and smaller? do keep in mind that the lower you go on the area of the glider the faster it will fly for your weight so if you're going to fly it make sure you have enough area to make your launches manageable for your experience level. A very small wing will need a lot of running to launch or a lot of wind, both of which can be tricky so be mindful of that.
@@AndreBandarra1 what about a harness, I supousse a splitted legs would be better for groundhandling isn't it?
turbulentillo I don't think so. A small seat plate is better I think and legstraps that clip onto to the sides rather than clipping on the chest strap
