- In a world of comic book investing, comic book speculation, FOMO after any new announcement and just spending money on the top 10 list garbage, I am focused on buying key comic books to build an incredible comic book collection 5 books at a time. If you just had these 5 books in your collection you would have a pretty cool eye catching collection in my opinion. These books can be expensive, but if you come up with a plan on how to save up for these you can achieve them. They can also be affordable as well. Cool keys do not have to be expensive keys. Foundational Comic Books is a phrase I came up with to describe Universally Recognizable Key Issues. These are comics books that will increase the overall appeal and value of your collection on a broad basis. Obviously you want to collect what you like, but there are a lot of influential people that will tell you to buy 'Hot Books of the week'. Those comic books are fine, but they might not be recognizable to everyone or increase the value of your collection long term. Be weary when it comes to anyone telling you what you should buy.

I had to click on this vid when I saw that X-Men 53 in the thumb. Picked up that book when I was a kid collecting in the early 80's. Smith art was always noted in Overstreet so I'd sometimes try picking up first art books by some of the noted ones.
TOS #75 is also the 1st appearance of Batroc The Leaper. Nice silver age haul my friend 😊

I have two copies of Aquaman 11. One is pretty low grade, maybe 2.5. The other is coverless, so even lower grade 😂
With the Aquaman hype calmed down from the movie of a few years ago, the first Mera should be a bit cheaper. Great cover, Nick Cardy??
I don't consider that Thor a foundational universally recognized book, but I think you got a great price on it. Foundational books that I have in my pc are Booster Gold #1, DNAgents #24, Dazzler #1, Devil Dinosaur #1, Batman Adventures #12, Turok Dinosaur Hunter #1, and Black Knight #1(still trying to find a good deal on this one) This is by far not my full list. I just knew you were going to show some from my collection. You have before. I just didn't recognize any of the ones you showed in this video. Honestly, I haven't seen every comic known to man either. Love your channel.

There were so many great books. These ones mostly spoke to me, because they were interesting. Maybe I hadn’t owned them before or owned them in awhile. It was fun
Yes, I used to have that Aquaman 11, nice book. The first Mera getting married to Aquaman is a decent minor key as well

I appreciate your focus. I had that focus when I went for x-men 1-300. It was an awesome collection and I wish I still had it.

Nice selection of new books. Thor was a good find in that condition, but it’s too bad it’s incomplete. I would recognize it as a foundational book, for sure. And I love the Aquaman book. We have #1 at our store in a CGC 4.5 for sale right now.

I’m one of the few Aquaman collectors; foundational to me are 1, 11, 13, 18, 29, 33, and 39.

These are my favorite RUclips comic book videos. You break everything down so well and since I’ve started watching you I definitely subscribe to “foundational comics” and take that into consideration a lot when I buy comics. STL has amazing comics at fantastic deals, just wish they would ship again but I totally get the pains that come along with that. Every book you got was great, but that Thor Kirby cover was fantastic! Great video my friend!
I’m glad it’s been helping my friend. Yes. STL shipping would be awesome and dangerous for me. I saw a few today that I wanted. Maybe we need an “inside” guy. We can pay him to buy the books we want for us. He can make a few bucks transaction and we get access to the great books they have.

Thor #126 is the MOST foundational book of that haul being its the 1st self titled book and it's a "classic" Jack Kirby cover. 1st Mera is a cool book but she is not a major character. Only diehards I think would recognize this minor key.
Yeah. I think you’re absolutely right. This one was a little bit of a stretch for me. I’m glad people are chiming in about what they recognize and what they don’t.
