Wow nice books! I usually check elite comics when I get home from work, and that day the BCM50 was posted it was already sold when I logged in. I 100% would of bought it, so congrats to you for acting quick (I am sure others would of bought it also). I think ComicConnect might have another 9.0 in their march featured auction, so I will patiently wait for that one. Once again, congrats

Hey Ryan, this is Bob in Connecticut. You are awesome I love your books I get a little jealous because I can’t buy anything anymore. I don’t work back in the day I could buy stuff like you are buying.. well to be honest, weird science fantasy annual 1 which I know you had or still have that is very very rare in the high grade I know because I told you I have 9.0 9.2 is the highest grade. There are three of those.. I would think that book would have been on your keeper list

Happy New Year. Since you're a cover-oriented collector, I wanted to recommend a couple of DC series for you in the great era of very late '40s / early '50s Star Spangled Comics and All-American Western. The post-hero era for several DC titles is underrated for outstanding cover art.
Great list / video! Love these recaps. So fun to go through these with you. I didn’t realize you had so many pedigree books - and yes, that gold label…so good. I had anticipated that PL17 and PC12 would’ve been top of your list, so it was fun to find out what the new number one would be. Congrats on that pick up. I remember you showing this before. Crazy cover. Now about that AF15…so jealous.

Did you know it was going to take top spot before you bought it or knew it was effectively yours? And I was surprised your ending comment about having never seen one in person until you opened it just then!
@TK_junction This current set of 24 books is my keeper list but like I mentioned in the video, they aren’t necessarily in order of my favorite books on that list. Like the Startling 49 is my favorite. This list was in order of value, just because it’s easier to do it that way.
So yes, I knew it was #1 because it’s the most valuable book I own.
Also that’s true for a lot of these golden age books I have (not having seen them in person before I open the box). I don’t generally go to cons, especially not big ones where you might see some of them at like the comicconnect or heritage booths.
So my first chance to see them in person is when I have them in my possession.
@@AutomaticComicsright sorry forgot. Silly me. I also want to say again that Punch 12 looks great the way it is. The roughed edges add character and personality to that book and it plays perfectly with the skull cover. IMHO. Anyway, happy new year, all the best for 2024!

Fantastic video. Been waiting for this. 🎉🎉 So, I tried to guess your No1. I knew you had a Seven Seas 4 coming so I first thought it was that in a high grade. Then when it came up early on I thought maybe you'd finally got a Suspense 3 in a 0.5 or something. Have to admit, a little disappointed it was the Black Cat melting face. Like you, I don't like the extreme PCH books. But a 9.0 is insane, so fully understand why you have it at No1. Awesome Keeper list. 3 Baker's, an LB Cole, a couple of Schomberg air brush covers. Oh man. I'm so jealous. Congratulations. This is why you're my favourite channel.

Fun video! And I agree how good that gold label looks with darker colors. Such a "premium" vibe. So I have to ask...are you considering having the Black Cat relabelled with gold?
That one wouldn’t get a gold label. The File Copy is more of a note in this case, like the Bobby Blue Collection note.
love your videos. question: i just found my first 5-cent book in the wild... ALL DETECTIVE MAGAZINE Volume 1 Issue 1 from Nov 1932 in remarkably good shape at a local antique mall... can't find much online and wondering with your pulp expertise if you know what roughly a low-grade book like that may be worth (ballpark, unofficial estimate of course)... any help is appreciated thanks!

Just picked up a planet comics 55 and 71 their some of the best art I ever seen I am actually in love
71 is a great one. Those later issues by Maurice Whitman are really good.

@@AutomaticComics 100% agree! Interesting you say that though. I was watching a playback of a Swagglehaus and CoMoComics team-up YT stream last night and Drew mentioned the comments section on larger listings as being a telling factor in whether or not it is in fact a great opportunity.
Sounded like you were in the chat for most or all of it so you probably heard him, but among other things that probably stood out to me the most. Although I never stopped to consider it, that was very applicable!

Thanks! I wouldn’t necessarily say that it’s not focused though, just in a different way. I have a few different areas and artists I really like, and I’m generally trying to get important and/or exceptional comics in those areas.
I really like Batman, pre-code Horror, and Good Girl Art-type covers. All of these books fall into one of those except the AF15, Walt Disney 1, the Okajima Pedigree and the Cap 27. And those are all just very important books in their own right.

I’m a big anime fan. One of my other hobbies, I get my money’s worth from Crunchyroll =). My brother got me the model and the Pochita for Christmas.

Do you know why some pedigree comics receive a gold label and others don't? Is there levels to pedigree?
All pedigrees can get the gold label. It’s just that the update to that label style happened about 2 years ago. If you have a book graded prior to that, you just need to send it in to be reholdered and you’ll get the updated gold version.
Thats what I did with both the Okajima and the cosmic aeroplane books.
Do you only collect golden age comics? That puts most of us out of range, price wise, for what you collect. Congrats.
I didn’t use to, but it’s kind of evolved to that over the last couple years. If you check out my top 50 video from about 3 years ago it’s a lot of bronze, silver and I think some modern (with a little golden age).
Something about golden age books just started to appeal to me, and I like the challenge that you can’t just go out and buy them if you want them. You have to wait, sometimes months or years for that book to come up for sale.
I don't understand how an incomplete AF15 with coupons missing could get a blue label. I realize it's only .5, but I didn't think it was possible to get a blue label on an incomplete book.
Yes, that’s basically what a 0.5 is. There are a few cases where a 0.5 is complete if it’s in really rough shape, but typically an incomplete book is what a 0.5 is for.
Cracking a Pedigree slab to get the book pressed should disqualify the book from the Pedigree collection
Why? I’ve had pedigree books cracked and pressed before. It’s still the same book. Plus books are typically pressed in many cases by the original pedigree submission.
Like the 9.8 ASM 1 that’s from the curator pedigree on heritage next month. It was a 9.6. Someone cracked and pressed it and resubmitted it and got a 9.8. It’s pretty common.
It’s hard to value the Disney comic/story #1. There are hardly any recent sales.
I’m going to wager at the start of your video my most expensive book won’t make your top 20.
