Really liked this video! Not you losing money part but being transparent and such! I would love a Top Ten Biggest Wins from the year!
I’m a collector and I collected right through 2021 and 2022. I look back at what I paid for some books with some questions. But, for many of them, I was happy to get them at the price at the time.
There might be some losses for people cracking out Blue label Hulk 181 books and finding their Marvel value stamps missing because somebody has tampered with the slab
If they’re smart, they’ll wait until CGC puts out the list of serial numbers. Otherwise you’ll void any claim you have.
give people free money, let them spend it like morons... nuff said..
Especially people with money that know nothing about comics 😂
The one valuable lesson I learned from the pandemic is don't buy books that are super hot especially spec books buy the books that you like as long as they're not super hot, by when they're lukewarm or cold is best time for buying a book
Love the idea behind this video, truly a good speculator here! I’ve been curious to find correlations on frequent or large gains/wins. I feel like this is straight back testing in our comic speculating way. We all win differently but the true winners make less mistakes (aka risk management).
I bought a first Miles Morales at 9.8 for $22k - thought I got a deal!!! lolololol - ouch!
Buy more DC and Indie.
I don't know why you paid these high prices in first place. But you can see your loaded with money
Keys are worthless if thr cover is lame like X annual 14
Helps watch the comic market
Xmen is a key book, but the cover is lame.
So, you always pay for shipping?
Glad you had more wins than losses .
Have you had any issues with unreasonable returns/fraud from customers on ebay recently? I sold on there for 10 years and never had any problems but suddenly I started dealing with a lot of nonsense when the boom ended and the economy started tanking. And ebay always sides with the buyer. Very frustrating.
No, I haven’t had any issues with people. Every once in a long while I’ll have a problem with someone, but it’s pretty rare. I haven’t noticed any uptick in the last year.
I sat on my hands thru the comic boom. I went the opposite way of where everyone was running to. But Yikes! I am buying great deals as of recent. I will buy in the coming Heritage, Hakes, etc...
I had a TMNT 1 (4th) early 90's but sold it mid 90's for $20 or less in my idiotic TMNT purge.
Do you claim these losses when you file taxes?
Yes. I report all my sales, expenses, etc on my taxes. These are treated as losses against my profitable sales.
Great content as always, thanks for sharing and being so transparent. It helps so many people when you share this so they know what to lookout for. I'm shocked at some of these, more so the very early FF and ASM - heck, even that X-Men 101 (on my grail list for sure!). But as you said, buying at some of the times you did certainly impacted things. I will also say, I would have never expected to see a Valiant comic on your lists. Thanks again for sharing, all the best for you in 2024 and forward.
Very informative and honest video, one other point (I’m sure you understand) that I didn’t hear, there is a benefit to tax loss harvesting for people that actually file taxes on sales, which I’ve heard you say is a factor in how you buy/sell in previous videos. Great video.
Hey Ryan, good video, as always. I’m curious to know why you have losses associated with shipping. Don’t you pass along these fees to buyer?
Great video, very informative and transparent. Just picked up a x men 94 cgc 7.5 for just over $600
Good lord man. Buying at the worst time. Sorry to hear about your losses. I hope it helps you make better choices moving forward. Love collecting and reading...selling and making a profit is tough. Excelsior and all the best in 2024!!
"Don't buy Valiant". I'll remember that.
Can you add in for the future if you had direct or newsstands?
Yikes Ryan it’s a tough business sorry about that
Ryan do you do local shows? I used to be an eBay only seller but got sick of the fees. I started doing shows shortly after that and my overall gains went up substantially. It’s hard work but I find it worth it.
No, I just do eBay. I don’t mind the fees. It’s worth it to me for the kind of set it and forget it format it supports.
Not really sure why you sold… just hang onto them for longer. I understand not wanting to hold onto something for 5 years but unless you really needed the cash OR the loss write off most of these books will rebound. Giving money to eBay just makes the sting all that more painful. Patience.
Yeah, understood... but none of those books were absolute stinkers and all will go back up. I guess I'm just a long game type guy.@@richardolney1822
I love eBay fees they’re great for everyone 😂
The time to buy is nigh!
I own a nice FF 3 signed by Stan Lee. I’m sending it off to EGS, it’s a minimum 5.0 of not better.
🙌 That’s a very nice grade for that book.
Great report!
I'm confused of the small amount on shipping a $1000 book. No insurance to protect yourself incase of loss or theft?
I have separate dealers insurance that I pay for that covers my shipping as well. I recommend it for anyone even if they aren’t a seller. You can buy collector insurance as well.
Not having to buy insurance from usps when I ship books helps cover some of the insurance premium.
@@AutomaticComics oh ok. Thanks!
You gonna have to hold those L’s buddy!
💎 🙌
Hey brother, do you ever take trade-in comics along with cash for one of the comics you sell on your website?
