  • If you have a stack of old comic books, you might be wondering if they are just worthless junk or if they are a gold mine of valuable collectibles. But if you are not a "comics person", how can you determine if your comics are worth anything? Here I break down what makes a comic book value. This is a high-level overview perfect for beginners who want to know "big picture" if their comic books are worth anything.

    Great video, very helpful. Nine years ago my brother passed away, and I acquired his ComicBook collection, 32 boxes all bagged and boarded. He started collecting sometime in the late 70s until the early 2000s. I just started the long process of documenting them all. I know it's going to be a lot of work, but I also know he would want me to get the most I possibly can out of them. So let the journey begin.

    My question is how do we know that companies like cgc don't buy comics on eBay and grade them themselves. Who would stop them -the better Business bureau? I think not they've got more important things to do. In addition I think the overstreet price guide is pretty much worthless.90% of the grades are absolutely unrealistic. Even the "sold" section on eBay has alleged sold prices-this occurs when the "buyer"and the "seller"are in on it together-thus creating an illusion of a market value. I'm sorry to be a wet blanket but this is the current climate in comic book collecting..

      Because they’re running a reputable business and if they were caught doing what you’re saying, they would go out of business due to the ethical issue of that action. CGC is large company now, no reason to think they would risk doing this.

    • @LimitedInfinity9
      @LimitedInfinity9 Год назад +1

      They would be taking a huge risk with consumers' confidence. Just look at PGX! PGX sales values are nowhere near CGC sales values because they lost consumer confidence when one of their owners was discovered doing exactly that.

      Please don't be willfully naive in trusting these businesses because you don't want to believe the possibility of it all being bogus .

      @@deathstroke2634people from CGC own comics graded by themselves. That alone should be a red flag. They absolutely do grade their own books and many of them own super high grade key comics. Their reputation has already been tainted with comic switching going on there and people keep relying on them and sending tons of money getting their books graded by them.

    • @Robert-nu4vc
      @Robert-nu4vc 4 месяца назад

      They absolutely buy comics and the people who work there own comics that they grade there. All grading companies are con artists. PSA, WATA, CGC, and many others have been caught doing some shady things.

    Great tips man, thanks. But could you make a video explaining how and where to find the issue #/ print run #? Like what do the white boxes mean on covers? I see " Dec 92" & that's obviously the date but wat is the bold # above it? In my case it says 74. So I thought maybe that's the issue #, but below the white box is a triangle that also says 1992 but has a different number under it in this case it's 46. I'm confused AF lol

    Great video but what I need to know is what about selling to a comic book store? I just came into about 75 comics in seemingly mint condition that are in plastic with cardboard to keep them flat so they are really nice. They are mostly from the 2010s but I have a few from the 90s. The ones from say 2013 say they costed about $3.99, are they worth more than the original purchase price if they are still mint? I got them for free so even if I got a dollar a piece it would be okay but I was thinking about taking them into a store to get quick cash. Seems that they would at least maintain the original purchase price if they are mint or would they be worth less since technically they are used, such as a car once you drive it off the lot. Just want to make sure I don’t sell myself short or get taken advantage of. Obviously some are going to be worth more. I have some with 3D holographic covers. If anybody knows the best way to sell comics to a store so you don’t have to deal with the Internet or meeting people or anything like that and has some suggestions I’d appreciate it. Like I said, I only got them for free, so in my mind, at first, I was thinking that they gotta at least be worth a dollar apiece since they’re in mint condition but if they cost $3.99 in 2013 maybe they’re only worth a dollar or two dollars. I don’t know so if anyone can let me know if they at least maintain their original purchase value if they’re in mint condition and they’re 10 years old. That would help a lot. Thank you.

    • @zenwatercooler
      @zenwatercooler  Год назад +1

      You certainly can go to a comic book store and ask, but most stores won’t buy any new comics (anything from the 1980s and 1990s are very common). They also won’t give you anything close to market value (because the store needs to make a profit). I would recommend ebay (list them all as a bundle) or Facebook Marketplace - often moms buy a box of cheap books for their kid.

    • @zenwatercooler
      @zenwatercooler  Год назад

      Hey there - I would recommend just selling it as is. If you try to fix the staples and/or fix the cover, you are "restoring" the book, which generally reduces the value. Lots of people like to buy low-grade books - list it on ebay as is!

    Hey Zen. I have five comic books, were given to me maybe 5 to 6 years ago. They are in plastic look in perfect condition. Just want someone to be honest what i can get for them. I have #17 wolverine, #198 avengers, #308 thor, #243 avengers, #344 superman. Would like some help on understanding what i can get for these. Thatnks.

    • @zenwatercooler
      @zenwatercooler  2 года назад +1

      Hey there - it depends on if you are selling them on ebay or to a comic book store. a comic store will pay like 10-25% of resale value. So the easiest way to see what they would be worth is to look up the sold listings on ebay for each comic. Another option is to list them at 99 cents on ebay and then whatever they sell for... that is what they are worth!

      The original Teen Titans (like from the 1960s) are definitely worth money. For the ones from the 1980s, there are some individual issues (like first appearances that are definitely worth a lot (especially in higher grades).

    ARE COMICBOOKS WITHOUT COVERS WORTH ANYTHING?

    • @zenwatercooler
      @zenwatercooler  Год назад

      No not generally - the only ones that would be worth anything are the big key issues like Batman #1, Amazing Fantasy #15, etc. A coverless comic COULD be worth something if you listed it on eBay (some people like to buy the comic and then put on a reproduction cover).
