Ironically I was told that the reason green lantern and the flash doesn't have to change too drastically like other comics since the new 52 is solely because they sell consistently.
James. Great video. I also sell out of an antique mall. 4 long boxes and about 6 short boxes and 2 short boxes. All unsorted. Do ok. I pretty much agree with what you say. Have not had much luck with $1 box but going to try again. A couple other things that do well that you didn’t mention are horror. War, war and weird things. Also comic related magazine horror titles sell well. And of course keys which u did mention. Keys keys keys. Certain artists sell well. Dave Steven’s. Bernie Wrigtson. Ditko. Strange. Etc. thanks for your content. Jess
Great video. Liked the mesh of a discussion mixed with creating a tier list. As for How the Duck, there might be several reasons behind his popularity. There is a low issue count, speculation of him coming to the MCU, and nostalgia. People that are fans of his movie are most likely in their 40s now and might be hit with the nostalgia bug and have some disposable income to use to collect his entire series since the issue count is small.
I was thinking the same thing. People have heard about Howard but they haven't read him and they're curious. Also Howard and Dr. Strange are very trippy.
Cool to hear wants hot and want is cold. I have to say MOKF run from the 70s is such an underrated run! Great writing and fantastic artwork. So surprised nobody is searching for that title but it is well worth collecting!
I'm surprised Shang Chi isn't as popular now that the movie is out. It's one of the best post-Endgame movies Marvel has put out. I guess it's similar to Captain America and people like the movie version better?
The people buying Howard are certainly readers as well as collectors. From a pure reading perspective, there are few comics better than those written by Steve Gerber.
Howard the Duck was my favorite as a kid in the 70s. Have the full run, including all his earlier appearances. Man-Thing is a close second to me. For me nostalgia is the true appeal.
HTD was an ideal title when I picked it up in the mid 70s here in Scotland - pure escapism, .cynical but hilarious at the same time. Still reading my original issues (at 63) and loved the magazines..
As a kid in the 70s with a dad who promised me comics as long as I got good grades (ended up graduating 5th in my class and giving the benediction), I just got everything on the stands, including Howard the Duck, even though I didn’t really love it. The only issue I still remember was one where Dracula couldn’t find other sustenance as daylight approaches so had to bite Bessie the cow. I felt so sad for her. But she became Hellcow, who fought Howard.
i think the appeal of howard the duck is that it very uniquely combines bronze age adventure with cartoonish humor. i'm surprised the simpsons is so low. their early issues were some of my all-time faves, especially the radioactive man and bartman spinoffs. for a while, simpsons was kinda mid, but in their later days, they did experiment with different art styles and random character one-shots that were pretty fun. the one thing from bongo i never see is futurama. it must've had pretty low print runs. also, i'm not a spongebob guy, but the art in that book always looked really cool. and i love archie, although i think far and away the best era for archie comics is late 80s/early 90s. the art was never better, the writing was a bit more mature, and they had a lot of really fun limited series at that time
FF really surprised me. Howard the Duck is crazy!!!! But I understand why YOUR Green Lantern sells so well. People see the joy and excitement you have for GL and it puts a bug in them to pick it up. I would bet a lot of money that your passion for all things GL causes you to move it better than most other shops
Interesting. I found that enlightening and I appreciate your chart showing various tiers. As a Marvel Silver age OG, I have interest in some filler book of FF and you've got a 30% discount on them so, while I've not been to your store, I may just find myself driving in that direction this coming February. Thanks for posting.
Howard, the duck which I read when I was a little boy had this what I can only describe now has a Deadpool sense of satire. His greatest villain was Dr Bong! A big guy who is mask looks like the Liberty Bell on top of his head.
Wow, I never would have guessed that lineup of sales! Some to me were no brainers (Star Wars), but some were quite surprising. You really put out some of the most entertaining and informative videos on comics that Ive found. Thanks for putting out such high quality content James! 🤘🏼
@@MintHunterComics Your vid on what’s hot and what’s not had a lot of surprises! Is there a more unedited version of this video? As I missed you talking about the Legion of Super-Heroes. Lol I can say as a captain america collector people are always surprised when I pick up some books outside of keys! He did suffer from long runs of really, really c rate stories in the 200s and 400s
New TT is a fun run to put together. A lot of the back issues go for a few $ and the keys are relatively affordable. I have 90% of the main run just waiting to find the first appearance of deathstroke for a good deal.
Same; it feels like DC's answer to UXM, with great writing and great art. The big difference as a collector is that the keys are way more affordable and still under-the-radar except for issue 2, as you mentioned. I'm not that big of a Deathstroke fan, so as much as I want to complete the run I'm not going to bend over for an overly pricey copy that I don't have much appreciation for....at the same time I don't want a low grade copy, either.
@@kyleroussel I feel the exact same way! Im a big DC guy so I mean if possible id like to have as many keys as I can find. Ill take the low keys if I can if theyre affordable. In my recent haul vid I picked up a first appearance of Ocean Master for like $25. I think if you have enough patience you will eventually find the book you are looking for at a decent price just takes time.
@@borderlinecomics oh yeah, patience is key for sure. I'm sure we've all done it, but I know I've seen a book for sale, and quickly watched my willpower crumble as I bought the book for the asking price. But I was patient from 2020-2023, and in the final week of '23 I scored Clone Wars #1 (CGC 9.8) for less than half of what it was selling at just a couple years ago; and I came close to buying 9.6 consolation prizes in the last couple of years that were more expensive than what I paid for the 9.8 last month. It's all about waiting for your book to drop into your price range (and then being okay if it drops even further)!
Many of these line up with my personal choices, so I understand. Iron Man and Thor are 2 faves and I have great runs of each. I'm surprised those 2 are so low. I have never collected X-Men for some reason or another. I do however, buy all the famous storylines in trades/hardcovers. The others, I line up with for the most part. I'm not surprised by FF. I like and remember many of the bronze age covers from my youth, but I was never a big collector and really don't know many people who are either. Despite that fact, oddly, I actually love the team. I love bronze age Superman, so I get that one!!! The covers alone are usually great!
Wow my favourite character is Captain America and I am trying to collect volume 1 and have most of it. I think West Coast Avengers and Excalibur are underrated but agree they don’t move much.

Great video, I loved the topic of this video. Good to know that the Comics that I am interested in sell the best, Star Wars, Ghost Rider. Keep up the good work. 😎
Great Covers On Comics have always moved books as the biggest factors along with Condition,Price, and Age as there are currently many Titles and Characters being presented both past and presently as well nowadays and The Green Lantern Comics themselves obviously have alot of Comics With Impressive Cover Art and Great Stories to them and actually going through them isn't exactly boring at any given time.
Very interesting video. 👌 I'm so surprised about Howard the Duck! I'm currently working on a Fantastic Four run, 3 long boxes in, and still so far to go. 🙄 It's a shame I'm in the UK, that 30% discount would have been great... 😒😆
Not surprised by Avengers/WCA. Even during the 2010-2018 era, over my 20+ years as a dealer, those books are dead weight. I think there’s something broader to be said about many team books as people who love *characters don’t want those books where hero A is only on a handful of pages, or sits out entire arcs.
Could you do a list also for indie stuff if you deal with that type of stuff. I know there's no major key stuff, but does SAGA outsell RED SONJA and other stuff like that. Even now marvel titles that once were dark horse or dynamite, where do stand on their popularity
@MintHunterComics love me some Dr Strange. The 70s era books are so good. The 90s run isn't great so it's hard to find in decent quality. I tend to buy it all and keep the best for my PC.
Interesting. I started collecting again about 2 years ago. In that time, I have acquired the full v1 runs of Alpha Flight, Excalibur, The Thing (no idea why), X-Force, X-Factor, The New Mutants, and 90s X-Men. I already had big chunks of some of those, including the expensive New Mutants books. I had Ghost Rider v1 from 20-81, and I have added everything except 1 and 2. I had Ghost Rider v2 up to 41, and I now have through 81. The others are a bitch to find, even online. I had Uncanny X-Men 144-318, and now I have from 107 all the way through v5. I'm only 4 issues away from having Daredevil v1 from 179-380. The issues after the 330s aren't easy to find. I'm just now starting to fill gaps in ASM and The Avengers. Luckily, I already had the McFarlane run of ASM. Oh, and I also picked up the entire v1 run of Power-Man and Iron Fist. I will buy any Legion of Super-Heroes or Marvel Comics Presents that I find in a dollar bin. Same goes for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Alien(s), Predator, or Terminator, but at any price. As you can imagine, trying to catch up on 30 years of comic collecting has been expensive, but my wall books look better than most of my local comic shops. I display them on Mosslanda picture ledges from Ikea, in Ultra-Pro comic display cases. No graded comics in my collection yet. I'm not sure what I'll do once I feel like I am caught up on the titles I listed above. Maybe I'll go after the various "Marvel" titles... Team-Up, Two-in-One, Premiere, Saga, etc. I have even toyed with the idea of going after Captain America since it sounds like there's not much competition for buying those.
An interesting video. During various eras, Howard, GI Joe, and Star Wars would have been F tier. in the 80s, Punisher, Alpha Flight, West Coast, Excalibur and Cap would have been at least A-tier and even S-Tier. Times change and things move into and out of fashion. Cap was my main book for years and now I am tracking down Sub-Mariner. Who knew?
Interesting to see what sells, I am a sucker for about any Silver age DC/Marvel and early Bronze. Then you have what I would call my kryptonite...certain artists I will buy every time I see them. Kirby, Byrne, Mignola, BWS probably a few others, any cover I pick up. Would be cool to see if you run into that within these titles you mentioned. I have more early Alpha Flight and Kirby DC Titles like Superman's Pal than a sane person should.
I think Ghost Rider is amazing cause for the age its usually still affordable plus the run collectors for rider are die hards and will usually pick up extras cause the covers and story are awesome. Speaking about my self if I see it I buy it cause for what ever reason does not turn up as often as other stuff. Plus now I buy and sell collections see plenty of different stuff but hardly any 1st run of rider shows up. Same for Silver Surfer first 18 issues are always harder to come by but they are way more pricier than Ghost Rider. My PC is Surfer, Rider, Horror, and GGA type stuff. Every thing else I sell when I buy a collection. Your list is pretty spot on from my seller perspective down in Texas.
Some real surprises in that list for sure! Howard the Duck? Really? I'm also surprised to see Ghost Rider over ASM, and Green Lantern? He's cool and all, but I never would have suspected that book to sell so well for you. Maybe it's because you've attracted a GL community to your shop? And as a Canadian, I'm not sure how offended I'm supposed to be that Alpha Flight doesn't sell....though I guess deep down I already knew that! Cool video, thanks for sharing!
I have a theory - cuz there's only 33 issues it's very easy to collect and complete the run so I think a lot of people want it because of how obtainable it is
Love the fact that this shows the difference between countries. ( I only deal in Marvel and some very select indys btw) My WCA fly , my regular avengers never move . Ill sit on x-anything for years while UXM pushes very close to the biggest seller of Spider-man anything. The UK weeklies and Monthlies are really gaining traction over here as there are quite a few original stories and unique artwork , are Uk issues a thing in the states other than Captain Britain and Judge Dredd ?
Could be for some of the higher ones a lack of available collections in trades or hc format might push the sales a bit And come one man Steve Gurrbers Howard the duck is such a gem
I mainly look for power rangers, Vol 1&2 of captain America / ghost rider / punisher / Wonder Woman. Anything else such as supergirl, Howard the duck and other titles I look for specific books (keys or covers)
I've been working on getting my Thor's together & some of my other runs. You forgot about Firestorm as a "F"! I see the Captain Carrot (Two of them) behind you!!
Why does Howard The Duck sell? It was like lightning in a bottle! It started strong and while I think Steve Gerber ran out of ideas at some point, what the heck, it's still a nice little run! I also enjoyed the Mantlo issues! I have random issues of the comic, The Essentials Collection and all 9 issues of the magazine! Oh, and one more thing, maybe the main reason: he's not drawn like this anymore!! Marvel was pressured by Disney to change his design, even though Daffy Duck and Warner Bros apparently couldn't be intimidated!
The Thing is your least popular title. I bought almost a full run of the Thing solo series from the 80's and it's amazing. He is the only hero to stay on the Beyonders battle world and have a whole run of comics about it. In my opinion they are very valid in the grand scheme of Things; pardon the pun. Such a cool hero.
I missed this one. I have about 85% of the original Cap series picked up over a life well wasted. I have been working on MoKF and Power Man and Iron Fist.
My main titles are: Spectacular Spider-Man, the concurrent Web titles, Daredevil, Fantastic Four and Amazing. I generally tend to collect copper age (1980-1995ish). Spectacular is just as good if not better than Amazing. Amazing is just so damn expensive in back issues
I have a bunch of Howard comics that i didn’t even consider selling even though i don’t want them because i didn’t think anyone else would want them either. I wonder what else i was wrong about
I've got the 1980 King Size Annual of X-Men called "Nightcrawlers Inferno" with Doctor Strange, on the nightstand by my bed. X-men and Spidey were my heavy buys back in the early 80's. I wish I had a way to know what kind of values they hold.
TMNT and Transformers have made a massive come back in new comics. This will filter through to older ones eventually so watch those for under priced bargains.
If you can find them (at all), a comic that checks all the same humor boxes as Howard is ACG’s “Herbie, the Fat Fury.” I remember them fondly, although I have 0 issues (the ones I did have were coverless store rejects, so completely uncollectible).
Im with everyone else that buys Uncanny X-Men. Grade is always a big factor for me though unless its a nice key that can be pressed. $5 for 1st Mr Sinister was a nice grab. Had some water damage so I pressed it and it now presents nicely minus some stains on the back.
One big problem when you get rid of the supposed filler, comic books, and only keep the keys - What happens is some of those anonymous filler comic books suddenly become a key and now you have screwed yourself…
I'm the guy who buys all the Green Lantern stuff 😂 It's probably because the series is pretty continuity heavy and reference filled so people want to catch up on stuff. And fun covers and silly stories
would really think flash would be ahead of green lantern or at least a lot more comparable, and I'm shocked Punisher isnt near the top or much closer to it.
Howard the Duck? that's a shocker. I liked him when i was a kid, but no one else that i knew did. I have a good friend who is a huge HTD fan but that's about it.
Hopefully someone aware of how brilliant Master Of Kung Fu is will buy every copy you have in stock James. I'm surprised about FF though as it's one of Marvel's flagship titles. The Duck still rules, great to hear. Howard's first series and the b/w magazines are some of the wittiest stories of the Bronze Age.
Green Lantern probably outperforms at your store because people know you are a Green Lantern guy, so you'll probably have what they are looking for.

Howard was a writer's book. Steve Gerber was awesome!! (Man-Thing was also great (acquired taste?)
Sgt Rock and other war comics seem to always be sold out at my LCS and when I ask they always say they they go as soon as they get them.
I actually don't have those bins! I'll have to add them
An interesting video. Who knew?
Sub-Mariner doesn't do so well I'm afraid!
Love this! Helps for claim sales on FB.
The horror collectors in our community have always been rock steady on my ebay sales.
Horror always does GREAT - especially the more obtainable Bronze and copper stuff
I have a theory - cuz there's only 33 issues it's very easy to collect and complete the run so I think a lot of people want it because of how obtainable it is
I thought I was the only guy buying Howard The Duck books! So nice to know that I’m not alone.
You are not alone. 🙂
I’m missing #1, #12, & #29-33;
A.K.A. the priciest and/or hardest to find issues.
I feel like your lost does not go low enough -what about Justice League Europe, Dreadstar, 90's Image, Firestorm, Captain Atom, Star Trek, etc.
I really enjoyed this video! Well done!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Cool video! I really enjoyed it. We're does Spawn sit on the list?
I am now a subscriber great video thank you
I can safely say I am one of the few collecting Superman, mostly silver age. You got me pegged lol
James I told you the X-men is way to go. It's good to see you coming around.
Sadly Judge Dredd hasn't sold a single copy in my antique shop!
@@MintHunterComics Are they the US reprints or the 2000AD originals ?
I am always interested when I come across Captain America comics.
Could be for some of the higher ones a lack of available collections in trades or hc format might push the sales a bit
And come one man Steve Gurrbers Howard the duck is such a gem
I mainly look for power rangers, Vol 1&2 of captain America / ghost rider / punisher / Wonder Woman. Anything else such as supergirl, Howard the duck and other titles I look for specific books (keys or covers)
My best guess about Howard is maybe the great 70's Frank Brunner covers.
I've been working on getting my Thor's together & some of my other runs. You forgot about Firestorm as a "F"!
I see the Captain Carrot (Two of them) behind you!!
I love A-Factor from reading as a kid.
😮...Howard The Duck...🤯
I wonder what else i was wrong about
Good data. Thank you for your content.
Not surprised to see that green lantern sells well at your shop. You’re a big fan of the title, so you probably draw other collectors as well.
I guess that makes sense
I'm loving the Ferris merch, a little GL reference.
I'd buy the FF's for sure. I'm shocked that Captain America doesn't sell well because that character had really good runs in the 70's and 80's.
I've got the 1980 King Size Annual of X-Men called "Nightcrawlers Inferno" with Doctor Strange, on the nightstand by my bed. X-men and Spidey were my heavy buys back in the early 80's. I wish I had a way to know what kind of values they hold.
Nice!
TMNT and Transformers have made a massive come back in new comics. This will filter through to older ones eventually so watch those for under priced bargains.
This was fascinating, thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
If you can find them (at all), a comic that checks all the same humor boxes as Howard is ACG’s “Herbie, the Fat Fury.” I remember them fondly, although I have 0 issues (the ones I did have were coverless store rejects, so completely uncollectible).
i agree, used to read em in the 60s, flying clocks, magical lollipops, ? whats not like huh?
Great information. Thank you.
good rankings, bro.
would really think flash would be ahead of green lantern or at least a lot more comparable, and I'm shocked Punisher isnt near the top or much closer to it.
All the Howard the Duck fans are hiding out in Jersey apparently.
Howard the Duck? that's a shocker. I liked him when i was a kid, but no one else that i knew did. I have a good friend who is a huge HTD fan but that's about it.
Could you do a video like this with all Horror titles, that would be cool!
I collect Superman, Action Comics, Teen Titans, New Mutants and X-Men in general
Wonder Woman in “A”? Awesome!
Nice vid and I dont think I saw any mention in the comments but what about TMNT?
Hopefully someone aware of how brilliant Master Of Kung Fu is will buy every copy you have in stock James. I'm surprised about FF though as it's one of Marvel's flagship titles.
The Duck still rules, great to hear. Howard's first series and the b/w magazines are some of the wittiest stories of the Bronze Age.
Howard the Duck had a cameo in a post credit scene of Guardians of the Galaxy and also appeared in the What If animated series...#duck♥
