    How to cook rice perfectly in your rice cooker each time.

  • @VM-123

    I rinse my rice really well and let it dry. I use two cups of rice to approximately 3 cups of water in my cooker. I also add Himalayan pink salt and about a tablespoon of unsalted butter. Also a pinch of chef's pepper. Turns out great every time! My water depends on how dry my rice is after I rinse. If it's still a little wet I use less water.

    You don’t use coconut milk? Good video tho, might need to invest in a rice cooker!

    • @CookingwithShirani
      @CookingwithShirani  4 года назад +1

      Yes I do use coconut milk sometimes. It depends on what I'm eating the rice with. It's definitely worth getting a rice cooker. It makes perfect rice and beans also. I think it's even better than cooking it on the stove 😁.

    Not sure what happened, but I followed your video exactly (rewinding multiple times) and my rice came out extremely salty and mushy. I choked it down, but your instructions didn’t work for me at all.
    And yes, I confirmed I used the teaspoon, not tablespoon.

    • @CookingwithShirani
      @CookingwithShirani  2 года назад +2

      Omg! I am so sorry to hear that. I really don't know what happened. I've used this measurement for years and years and it always comes out the same. It never tastes salty to me.

    Why do you rinse off your right before you cook it? Does it cook better! Thank you for the video

    • @CookingwithShirani
      @CookingwithShirani  4 года назад +3

      You're welcome! Rinsing the rice is something I grew up doing. We did that because the rice was always dirty mainly because they were home grown or from nearby local farmers. So it's just a habit 😊.

      I live in GA and always rinse rice - white or brown. You can actually see the water become very clear. It's like a starchy residues are removed

      @Patricia Terry ... I always wondered that myself then I moved in with my Middle Eastern friend and he did an experiment with and without rinsing and soaking that's the key period And I found out that's why my rice was always gummy! You should always soak it at least 10 minutes so the extra starches go away so you won't get that gummy stickiness

    • @judymcgowan2881

      @@patriciaterry4652 it also removes the extra starch from the rice. Which is recommended by most.

    How manny minutes to allow the rice to cook in the rice cooker

    • @CookingwithShirani
      @CookingwithShirani  2 года назад

      My rice cooker has a preset setting of 45 minutes. I had a different rice cooker at one time that only took 25 minutes. So it all depends on the rice cooker you have. Hope that helps 😊
