My mom got a rice cooker for Christmas but she doesn’t even use it, so she gave it too me. I don’t know how to use it but now I know better, thank you:)
I like to rinse the rice first to remove some of the starch, that way the rice4 isn't as sticky, but if you have a recipe where sticky rice is better, then just cook like this. I have found that a packet of cup-a-soup adds flavour to so much, it might be worth trying that as well, and it is cheap.
@jonny_lagunarice being dirty depends heavily on where you live and how it’s packaged. Here in the us the rice is clean and doesn’t need to be washed unless you want fluffier rice that doesn’t stick. In fact, some rice is fortified with minerals that will be removed if you wash rice.
Thanks for the info. I like to soak/rinse my rice prior to cooking and I use beef or chicken broth instead of water and throw a big dollop of butter in, too. This seems to maximize the flavor, especially for white rice.
If I dont wash my rice, my rice cooker will spew hot rice starch all over the kitchen. Always wash them at least 3 times, or until the water is clearing up.
Same here, which is why I wash it 5-6 times, until the water runoff is clear, not milky. Besides the starch, if it isn't washed completely the rice will be like glue.@@vBDKv
That’s a fancy cooker. Mine only have one button. Cook when pushed down and warming when pushed up. Just a classic old one that weights the water and rice.

I’m glad I didn’t come across that way! Tried to add some humor to avoid that as well. Hope you enjoy your rice cooker ! :)
@@giovannidozziyea that's what I'm confused about, because in this video it says 1 cup of water for every one cup of rice, but when I bought my rice cooker, if said to use 2 cups of water for every cup of rice. But with both methods the rice comes out a little clumpy, any recommendations for not clumpy rice?
the cup that comes with the rice cooker is a ¾ cup measure. The video poster measured 3 of the cup from the appliance which actually=2¼ standard measuring cups. And then he used a standard liquid measuring cup with 3 cups of water. The comment you responded to says she used, I believe, 1 cup of rice to 3 cups water, which leads me to believe she maybe used brown rice? That rice requires more water. White rice is not all the same, by the way. Long grain, short round/arborio rice, jasmine rice all need different amounts of liquid per 1 cup standard dry measuring cup of rice. Hope it helps.
