It’s just paint. That is something so hard to wrap my head around as a perfectionist. Thank you so much. I want to reconnect with my culture, but there are no rosemaling classes around here. RUclips will have to do for now

Thank you for making videos, you have given me the courage to try my hand at rosemaling. I haven't seriously painted for more years than I care to think about, I feel like I've wasted so much time and talent for far too long! I've always loved this style of painting so I'm going to dust myself off and jump back on the painting horse, wish me luck!😉🎨

I’m reading a novel that mentions rosemaling so thought I’d come check it out. Thanks for the introduction. It’s a very pretty art form. Question: Do you ever use watercolor paint to accomplish this art form? I’m a watercolorist and can already see that it may be lovely using that medium. Blessings to you!

hello!! I am so sorry that I did not see your message until now! Rosemaling is traditionally an oil art form, but many rosemalers use acrylic paint. I transitioned to acrylics about 20+ years ago. I have not tried it with watercolors, but I am sure that some have!

I am so happy I found your site! I hope you can answer a question. I am wondering if I can use my regular acrylic paint, or do I have to replace it? Maybe there is an additive I can put in it so it is not so transparent, (before I go and buy Josonja's paints). I have tried your 1:1:1 mixture (different brands) and it works on paper, but not on rock. Are Jo Sonja's paints that different? My strokes are so much better in oils! Thanks.

Hi! By all means you can try this with other acrylics. I have been using JoSonja paints all along because I began rosemaling in oils (20+ years) and when I switched to acrylics I went with her paints because she is a so renowned in rosemaling. In regards to painting on rock...are you sealing the rock with a glaze medium first?

Thank you so much for this! I wanted to learn rosemaling to help bring back some of my Norwegian heritage into my family, my great grandmother & grandfather immigrated to the US from telemark. Hi, sorry for my slow reply!! You can purchase Jo Sonja paint through Hofcraft, though some craft stores will carry it as well. You can also use Delta Ceramcoat, Americana or any other acrylic paint that you like in order to practice.
