  • Mass Observation was Britain's unique social research project set up in 1937, and Tom Harrisson was one of its founders. Tom was an extraordinary man of many talents, and the MO project aimed to find out what British people really thought and how they behaved.
The start of World War Two in 1939, followed by the relentless air raids which began the following year, placed a nation in general and communities in particular under enormous pressure.
Tom and two colleagues visited the midlands city of Coventry immediately after the German air raid of November 14 1940, code named Moonlight Sonata.
