I hate defending Cohen but every time media mentions him they should emphasize that Cohen already went to prison for the crime of following Trump's directions. That should be the lead every time his name comes up.

I agree. But you can believe the prosecution will almost certainly begin their questioning of Cohen with exactly the facts of what he did, who he did it for and how he was punished by the legal system and has rehabilitated his reputation since.
And but for Cohen's testifying to Congress truthfully, going to prison to make amends, and of course Stormy, there would be no case. I just wish Cohen would quit calling trump vonshitzinpants, because it makes him look small and petty.

I know many people are frustrated. I am, too. Anyone else would have been jailed long ago. But the more I think about it, the more I realize that Judge Merchan is being VERY smart. He’s creating this record for the appeals court, showing that he went to the limit and beyond for this defendant.

I agree with you. No one is more sick of saying this than Judge Merchan. I've seen defendants that were picked up for minor offenses locked in holding pens because of the court case load. Still, Merchan wants to make 100% clear to the American public that he has given Trump every possible chance, beyond what others would be given, to comply. He wants to show that Trump cannot control himself even when required by law. He wants to get this trial over. Let the testimony flow. He is a good judge. I've seen sloppy judges. This is about more than the country club nature of the legal system. As for the interview, awesome.
We have to remember why this gag order was placed on Trump. The safty of many people.
The judge and prosecutor has a responsibility for the safty of those people.
I believe both the judge and prosecutor need to remind everyone of their responsibility.

Secret service should be removed if a former president is a convict. There are other ways protect him, like they do most prisoners. Remove him from the genpop. Why does secret service agents have to do time when they didn't commit any crimes...
It’s not like the Secret Service would be locked up. They’d get to go home at the end of their shift. They’d probably get their own office in the prison/jail where they could remotely monitor him and escort him when necessary.
Solitary confinement would work too. Very safe.

Jen, always to the point and top notch discussions. It's concerning that the uncertainty factor with putting a former president in jail or not is such a big issue. Remember that Trumps attitude also mirrors a big crowd in the US population that are "feeling" that the whole democratic system is corrupt. Therefore nothing less than the trustworthiness of the system is at stake here. If the judicial system gives Trump special privileged treatment it may be interpreted as a sign of corruption and confirmation that their suspicion was right. If the population loose trust in the system all that is left to do is to calculate the speed with which it all falls apart.

It is common to complain and blame "the boss" so to speak. It has always been like that. However if they loose trust to a higher degree the trust will be replaced by fear. Fear and its modern form liquid fear is very dangerous since it leads to ideas of "everyone for themselves" or tribalism which essentially means do it to them before they do it to you.
