!!!KEYBOARD SHORT CUT!!! 5 step shortcut nevertheless its quicker... click your cursor to where you want to place your break, press ALT , press P , press B , then press O This is an excellent tutorial, THANK YOU!
Oh, thank you for this video, CS. Ordinarily, it would take me hours and sometimes days (of blood, sweat and tears, LITERALLY!) to format my novel. I was able to do my book in less than 2 hours! Thank you so much! God bless you!
Thank-you so much! My wife was going nuts trying to format her novel and this really helped. I watched it and was able to teach her these important things: - it's not just her, MS Word has a mind of it's own and probably too many controls for things - Make each chapter a new section (continuous) - Make it not continuous from previous section - when pages are screwed up edit page number to count from beginning of chapters - IT"S NOT HER, WORD IS SCREWED UP! Hers has the additional complexity of being in three parts, with a page saying "Part X" that is NOT counted a page. But we got through that by using the above steps, making those Part # pages a new section, not continuous and deleting the page number and starting the next chapter with the desired page number. Whew!!!
This video is awesome! I unlinked my first two pages of the first chapter as well (not the chapter page) and re-typed the header and footer information to fix that numbering issue you had. Doing that linked up the numbers correctly throughout the whole document.
Finally a video about this that make sense to me! LOL thank you. it's confusing between using page break vs section break and getting the page numbers to work correctly. Much practice, i will have.
Thank you for the video! I don't know why ALL the other videos on this subject didn't work either but they don't. Another observation is why does MS make this seemingly simple task so complicated? The last comment is are you doing any formatting/editing for hire? Thanks again.
How do you make the other chapter pages exempt from having headers? I deselected 'Link to Previous' and 'Different First Pages' is selected, but the chapter pages are still linked to the other pages; before and after.
Your video is truly helpful. Thank you. I do have one question. What did you use as page separators? For instance, Chapter 1 end halfway down the page. Now, how did you move to the next page, Chapter 2 without using the carriage return / return key since the gurus warn against the sin of using "RETURN" to move to next page? Thanks in advance for any help you may offer.
I have been trying to follow you directions for over two weeks and I have had zero luck. I’m using Word 2008 and the menus look different. Maybe it’s because this the first time I’ve ever written a book or time has caught up with me. Don’t think it’s the latter as I use Excel all the time. Can you help?
I know how frustrating that is. Feel free to email me at froalie@yahoo.com. And I’ll walk you through where I can actually look at your doc. I’m guessing you’re breaks have gotten mixed up because that really easy to do.
I write pamplets in 4 X 6 size, facing pages. I want to create booklets to self print on my HP ColorLaser Jet printer. Thank U Very very much This was SO helpful!! ❣
Thank you for this video. It is truly helpful. Please what if it does not show first page header although you ticked the different first page bottom
The Page Number preview is different when I double-click back to the manuscript. It says '71' when I edit, but then it says '43'. How do I fix that?

Move your curser to the end of text then from the insert menu choose insert page break.
it should end your current page and move you to the next page
When you set up the heading style for chapters, check mark the "Page Break Before" on the "Line and Page Break" tab under "format paragraph".

Thank you for this, it did save me
This is helpful thanks. You can also use Navigation to move to each chapter faster.
Can we add page numbers, headers and footers manually in novel. Will it affect my formatting in any way?
Only my first page changes to first page header the rest doesn’t want to change and I have checked the draft nothing duplicated there….so what now?
Thank you so much! It took a few tries but I finally did it 😊
I wish I had the same outcome!
Easily best video for this, thank you!
I would like for you to do my manuscript, headers and footers. I think the rest of it is pretty good!
Thanks for doing this ❤
I followed this video & I still have info in the header / footer on pages where it should be blank. HELP!
I know how frustrating that is. Feel free to email me at froalie@yahoo.com. And I’ll walk you through where I can actually look at your doc. I’m guessing you’re breaks have gotten mixed up because that really easy to do.

May I email you my manuscript so you can help me? I almost got it down, but there’s still some problems.
My problem has been solved!!! Haahah it's fun and tedious at the same time 😅😂
What's your book size? 🤔
Manali I like 5 by 8 usually. But if you’re book is much longer that 400 or 500 pages you have to make it bigger for create space to work with it.
Thanks. It is just unbelievable that MS comes away with such a malfunctioning product, after all these years!
Hi! I love your videos! But...I am having trouble. I do understand it completely. I used your email you gave to someone. I hope its still good. Thank you! You're brilliant!
thank youuuuuuuuu
Are you there on instagram?
Manali I don’t do a lot on instagram. But I do have one. I’ll look you up
You may want to remove the extra space between paragraphs. It's not recommended. Of course when you're self publishing it's your choice.
Not working at all
So confusing
