I've noticed that Security guards in the USA aren't well received by the public, is that because the majority act like law enforcement officers or is that public perception. In Australia Security guards don't have those issues.
Security guards do protect buildings, but they also protect people as well. This includes any one who is working at or visiting the site/property they are guarding. On the other hand, bodyguards have a main duty to protect just people, including high-profile celebrities and politicians.

I'm a US security guard and its public perception mostly I'm very well trained and went to school for this job twice.
