Oh man the nostalgia. This game was my first proper introduction to DBZ and fighting games in general. The satisfaction of actually doing a Frieza death ball against my uncle in a fight was the best!
I can’t be the only one that can recall being demoralized trying to beat Cell and have him drop that spirit bomb in the campaign Edit: it’s been so satisfying to hear so many of you went through the exact same thing. That game must’ve been hard or we all really sucked at it growing up.
This just took me back in time a bit. I love how broken 19s energy drain and ginyus body swap are. All you have to do is pull off the one move and you win by default basically.
Because Funimation is run by idiots and they just needed to. It really is strictly a Funimation thing with Raditz and his attacks. Makes me curious now to check the Oceandub version!

Double Sunday, Saturday Crush, Saturday Crash, Shining Friday, Dynamite Monday. In Budokai 2, he even has attacks called Exciting Year and Weekly Special. I laughed so much at seeing the latter name.
@@straightjacket308Budokai localizes very few of the move names, using mostly direct translations. Raditz movelist is identical in japanese, his actor even shouts “Saturday crush”, so no it’s not a Funimation thing.
Budokai 1 is one of the most unique looking Dragon Ball games honestly. Some people may think it looks ugly or whatever, but that's honestly part of the charm if you ask me, makes it stand out on it's own apart from just being the first Budokai game. And it's the only game I've seen that follows as closely and accurate as possible to the anime.
As a child i couldn't understand why should i perform a full air combo just to launch a super, and why kamehameha was yellow....thank god it was fixed in Budokai 3
It's kinda neat tho, cause the attacks represent themselves based on the form. White for his beauty and black for his true bestial nature, at least that's how I see it.
Another weird thing in the game is that when you check out the vs display in the main menu, you see goku and vegeta fighting, and vegeta has his Buu saga get up on.
So whoever voiced android 19 should have voiced him in all of the dbz games and they should have nicknamed him “chuckles the ass clown” as an insider for those who know😂
Never got the point in the position moves for the ginyu force in this game. Also I like how it sounds like Vegeta is saying "lets finish this shit" when he does his final flash.
I believe the poses gives you buffs to your attack and defense, depending on which pose gives that kind of buff. Great Saiyaman's ultimate, the Justice Pose, and one of Hercule's ultimates, Hercule Special in B2 and B3, is also a buff, but to both attack and defense, if you pull it off. Plus it stacks up to three times, so when you get that, their regular supers are almost equal to the damage of an ultimate.
