With Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot coming out next week we decided to do this classic. What’s our favorite Dragon Ball game? We hope you enjoy the video and also have a great day. Thanks for watching.
Wyndell Lee They did already with the Budokai HD Collection on the previous gen consoles. It had this game and Budokai 3 remastered. Edit: All time favorite DBZ game is Budokai Tenkaichi 2
It baffles me that almost 20 years later they can't make a DBZ game with better cutscenes than this, where the characters feel more alive with their movements and expressions
Out of all the DBZ games that keeps Re-Telling the same Story many times (with the Exception of Xenoverse 2 and FighterZ), but the 1st DBZ Budokai Game had the best Cutscenes that were actually taken scenes straight from the Anime like it's a Faithful Re-Creation, It's a complete shame that it's later Sequels did not follow the same Trend as the 1st Game's Story Mode, I would've love to see a Re-Telling of the "Majin Buu Saga" with this style of Cutscenes, even though that Story Arc was still ongoing at the Time when it aired on Western T.V. in 2001 and 2002 (same Year the Game was Released), but it already Concluded in Japan back in 1996.
This game is the epitome of anyone's childhood in the early 2000's, had so much have playing this, I loved the soundtrack the most, sad there was a lot of copyright problems due to plagiarism, but damn did Yamamoto have good taste in music. Voice acting was actually decent and mechanics were great sad that not everyone was into this game.
People make fun of this game but it had the best cut scenes out of all of them, raditz getting hit with the beam cannon wasn't annoyingly censored, the perfect game would be the gameplay of tenkaichi 3 with cutscenes like these
I think part of the reason the cutscenes in this one holds up so well is because it feels more faithful to the manga, but has the music and sound effects from the anime. While also trying to be a proper introduction for the series as a whole. Where as later games leaned more heavily towards the anime with their cutscenes serving more as a recap instead of being a proper retelling of the story.
I saw the Gamecube version of Budokai 1 in a thrift store a few days ago for $10, bought it & I gotta say, playing this again really brings back those memories of my 9 year old self playing it on my big brother’s PS2.
Yeah I into DBZ when playing this game starting the story and the rest is history. I still have so much fun for the older games The cutscenes were amazing and still are amazing to this day!
It's really impressive just how much effort was put into these, all the different character models, even for Bulma's different outfits, or side characters that only show up for a couple seconds, puts a lot of the modern DBZ games to shame
High-key. Even more than Kakarot for me personally. If I recall correctly this game was made specifically to introduce new gens to DBZ at the time, which is why the cutscenes had so much effort put into them. The Tenkaichi series always had alot to prioritize over story.
Yesss I was just telling my friend that, these cutscenes are PEAK. idk if it’s just nostalgia goggles but man this hits way way harder than any of the newer games considering I never watched the anime so this is the game that introduced me to DBZ and I’ve been a fan ever since. Also the cutscene music PERFECTLY encapsulates the essence of DBZ imo 💯
As a kid, I watch it on Toonami as I come home from school. DBZ has become one of my shows since than. Then this game came along, and I have tried to beat the strangle Raditz mini-game. Beat I enjoy it Thanks for updating it!
I like these graphics more than the Dbz kakarot ones. I don’t like those black lines they use to detail the muscles and lines. I like how this game looks and moves. I wish they’d make another dragon ball game in this style but with modern graphics
One thing I love with the older Dragon Ball Z Games are the cutscences, especially when the screen shake. The screen shake and even the characters themselves shaking, gives you an indication power and struggle
I used to play this game for the game cube all the time I remember I beat the game one time and got all the characters and everything and didn’t wanna turn it off cause if I did I would lose everything at the time I didn’t have a memory card one sad day my mom turned it off and I was crying when I came back from school that was the worst day of my 11 year old life 😂
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that, the way Piccolo flinched when Cell made a small movement to explain, these guys were very passionate making theese animations.
My first PS2 game that would start a lifelong love of playing video games 🎮 The second game came with an Atari sticker that I kept on my PS2 for almost 2 decades now.
Still till this day this DBZ game have the best cutscenes of any DBZ game out today and this was my first DBZ game on PS2 never forget 🫡 Sparking zero here we GO!!!
Gohan The best character on this game. But I think it a bit crazy how Goku have like 4 transformations in this game. Trunks has three, Vegeta has two and even Piccolo has two.
@@igotthememes349 Gohan's my favorite character, but it always made sense bringing Goku back to the spotlight eventually. He's just about that life, and the embodiment of DB. Gohan had great development throughout Z, peaked in the Cell Games and that's good enough for me.
@Matthew Watson Damn Right! Watching this makes me wish I were a kid again. Back when DBZ was all about mass destructions, Martial Arts, and the z Fighters become relevant than they were in Dragon Ball Super. This is why DBZ is way better.
This game was my first exposure to DBZ, and I liked it, but honestly didn’t really get into the series until, oddly enough, I found TFS. I still have fond memories playing through it.
I like this game a lot! For the time it was made, it was a game very ahead of its time! Good choice for a warm-up for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, guys! Love your content! You rock! 😉👍🏻
I remember when this first came out. I thought, "This is so amazing!" Looking back after all the DBZ games we've gotten, I now think, "We've come so far xD"
Just got my hands on DBZ Kakarot, and i'm extremely disppointed how that game still has mid cutscenes despite how much it's praised and the hype it has This game by far has the best cutscenes of all the Dragonball games I've ever seen, wich is crazy given how old it is... If only devs today made such sick stuff
I bet they used the same person for both the Cell Jrs and Saibamen voices even though they're different but they kind of reminds me that they're actually the same
With Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot coming out next week we decided to do this classic.
What’s our favorite Dragon Ball game?
We hope you enjoy the video and also have a great day.
Thanks for watching.
They should remaster this game
Wyndell Lee They did already with the Budokai HD Collection on the previous gen consoles. It had this game and Budokai 3 remastered.
Edit: All time favorite DBZ game is Budokai Tenkaichi 2
Besides the first three Budokai games, Burst Limit and Dragon Ball FighterZ are my most favorites.
Dragon Ball FighterZ is amazing, hope Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot keeps this trend up...
@@SpammytheHedgehog The graphics will never be as good as this one
This was the one DBZ game that had the best cutscenes.
It’s a classic. We love it.
@@glp Oh, without a doubt. I would buy this game again if they reused the same models and just extend the story to the buu saga or further.
And that’s straight facts💯
I love the character models they actually look pretty good wish they reused the same model with a few improvements
TGIPRO this one game looks better than everything that came after it from this era
Those yellow kamehameha’s always bothered the FUCK outta me when I was younger lol
It was more in line with the Manga. I think the anime change the color to make it look more impressive
And Cell's voice sounds like his first form while fighting in his Perfect form
@@SeraphimVegito7 And then his Kamehameha was actually blue. Always perplexed me.
Yeah, but..... Manga accurate though....
@@jamgrams3244 Oh my god, right?? Why was Cell's blue!?
When I was a kid, I could never get Raditz into a straight line. Lol
That part frustrated me the most as a kid.
I hated that part so much as a kid. The training missions on the way to Namek frustrated me too
Me too I would always get my brother to help me on that part
I always struggled on that part it took me forever to get it right
Ahhhhh....... memories😌
This game was basically DBZKai before DBZKai lol
I really loved the alternate what if scenarios after you beat the main story.
Mannnnn you’re spot on everybody just went 100% on voice acting in this game
@@PlanetaryDreyApart from when Nappa gets killed 😂 The game is a masterpiece though
Without this game, I might not be a Dragon Ball fan.
@ScAnDeLeZ I was young at the time and didn’t know Dragon Ball even existed.
I agree
I hated the cel shaded models they used in every game after this
Same here. This was my first introduction to the dragon ball franchise in general
Dude forreal! My dad bought this game for me back in the day and I became a huge dbz fan after that
It baffles me that almost 20 years later they can't make a DBZ game with better cutscenes than this, where the characters feel more alive with their movements and expressions
DBZ Kakarot is up there, though this game is very well made.
@@cipher1167 This game had better cutscenes than Kakarot, if only it had a Majin Buu Saga
Black Panther boy fuck no
@@platty3690 this one is the greatest outta all 3

This was my childhood right here! My very first DBZ game and the one with the best Super Saiyan transformation scene out of all the games.
Out of all the DBZ games that keeps Re-Telling the same Story many times (with the Exception of Xenoverse 2 and FighterZ), but the 1st DBZ Budokai Game had the best Cutscenes that were actually taken scenes straight from the Anime like it's a Faithful Re-Creation,

Cartoon Network also hyped up Budokai 1
Idc what anybody says ,this game has incredible voice acting for its time
Exactly what I was thinking. It sounds like it's ripped straight from the anime dub.
2002
Schemmel & Sabat are at their best as Goku & Vegeta here
Who can really hear it in gokus voice of anger and frustration in the tranformation scene with Freiza
This game has the best voice acting of any db game
Oh the nostalgia lol this game was amazing
IKR
This was my first DBZ game that I have played, and at a young age, I had no idea what was going on. Just had a great time playing it.
Same
These cutscenes were so amazing to see on just a PS2 (and the rest of consoles)
This game takes me back when I was six years old

Yeah I into DBZ when playing this game starting the story and the rest is history. I still have so much fun for the older games The cutscenes were amazing and still are amazing to this day!
I think I broke a remote trying to get Raditz to the center lol.
Oh man the memories! Thank you so much for this!
54:14- 54:40 i really loved the voice filter they did for Android 16, makes him sound like a robot with a soul.
It's really impressive just how much effort was put into these, all the different character models, even for Bulma's different outfits, or side characters that only show up for a couple seconds, puts a lot of the modern DBZ games to shame
Where are the “what if” cutscenes?
Apparently he's a Goku only guy.
That ost goes hard❤️🔥
The moments right before the Z splits the screen are the best
For a game that came out in ‘02 the graphics was good asl
The colors pop like in the show and manga (colored) and the expressions are lively. It’s among the best Dragon Ball Z games.
Man the nostalgia trip this game was the best growing up but damn was cell the hardest boss to beat
6:25 - 7:03 so badass! This scene has always stuck with me throughout the years
I still prefer these cutscenes than the ones in sparking zero 😮😅

This games cutscenes are so good, it did a really good job of retelling the first three sagas. Budokai 2’s story was such a letdown in comparison.

This game had the best alt skins - great attention to detail - love the ‘street clothes’ options for Goku and Vegeta
