  • How to regear a third gen Tacoma, can also be used as reference to regear just about any other Toyota truck.
    We Installed 5.29 gears in this truck running 33” tires. I’d recommend calling ECGS to see what they suggest you choose

    thanks for the detailed video, not many videos out there actually show us how to do this, thanks a lot

      No problem! My buddy told me the same thing when he was researching about re gearing his truck so when he got the stuff ready we knew that a detailed video had to happen 👍🏼

    Thanks for the detailed breakdown. Got my 2022 Tacoma headed to the shop to get this done. I don't have near the skills or tools to do this. Couple of local shops turned the job down and pointed me to Tucson Differential .. that's all they do! I have a 4Wheel Camper on my rig so it's always carrying 1100 lbs and you can tell. The truck is always shifting and cruise control is about worthless. Pretty sure this will solve my problem.

    Great video but is "how to re-gear" a little misleading? You just swapped diffs. Helpful anyway though

      Considering this is the most efficient and easy way to regear any Toyota. (Unless you have all the tools and the experience to back it up) I wouldn’t consider this mis leading at all! This is the route 90% of people will go 👍🏼 thanks for watching man!

      I just bought these from East coast- if you can afford the core charge up front (over $3k for front and rear total w/ core) than this is the way to go. Once I ship back the cores and get the deposit back, it'll end up costing me barely $300 more than it would've to just buy the gears from nitro or Yukon. And that's without the new bearings that ECGS installed with theirs! Two weeks to the day to get it to me here in Seattle too. Awesome deal imo

    Nice work, can this be done on a Hilux diff-lock rear

  • @Midnightkevin

    What are the advantages of regear the rear diff 🤔 and does it make a difference?

  • @panagiotisf7228
    @panagiotisf7228 2 года назад

    The diff housing bolts where only 18ftlbs? Also what type of fluid did you use and it needs to be tuned?

    5.29 pretty extreme for 33s, no?

    • @Adv4x4
      @Adv4x4  2 года назад +1

      It’s what east coast gear supply recommend for a 3rd Gen that’s heavy.
      For 2nd gens 4.56 is a better fit for the rest of the gearing. That’s what I run on my 2nd Gen.

      That will work just fine. Msoverland runs 4.56 on his 3rd Gen even with a alucab canopy camper.

      No sir pretty much exactly the same. Besides a few little details such as the rear diff electrical connectors.

    Is a retune required for new gears?
    Currently on OTT.
    I’m coming from a jeep and it was required on it.

    • @Adv4x4
      @Adv4x4  8 месяцев назад +1

      I’m actually the OTT Tuner for VA! Yes we recommend a retune when you regear. Since you are already tuned, your update for the gears will not cost you any money.

    Is this an sr5 auto or a TRD/ and or manual? Just asking for the gasket part number as I'm scrambling to find one so I can swap in the gears that just arrived

      Yeah, realized that once my gasket part # was different than the one in the video. Just one last thing, the snap ring and dust shields on the cvs, did you reuse? According to the fsm torque diagram it shows them as non reusable item. Just curious what you thought/ did

    • @Adv4x4

      Great! The rpm’s are a little high on the freeway but he’s going to go to a larger tire to even that out
