I love the absolute hypocrisy that people are showing towards this movie and the names of characters and places.... Y'all can easily remember names like Daenerys Targaryen, Galadriel, and also JAPANESE names frm anime, KOREAN names from those K dramas etc etc but names from an INDIAN language are difficult and complicated for you... My mum wanted to watch this movie so badly, for she read the weekly published stories in her time. I told her that I'll take her, first day first show. She passed away days before PS-1 released. I went and watched the first show in her honor.
People do not know what they're missing.
Be it reading the book or watching the movie. People who can do both in the original language are blessed, both are such Masterpieces by world class artists like Kalki Krishnamurthy and Mani Ratnam.♥️
Mani Ratnam never wanted to make RRR or KGF, he wanted to make PS and I'm so glad that _he_ did it, for this is art and not just business. I can tell that if any other director even tried, they would've mostly gone overboard with an underwhelming product, for they may have never connected the way Mani has. This man is not competing with anyone but himself. It's a dream of almost every Thamizh to watch this movie, to have seen this story turn into a movie. If people are gonna give silly reasons to not watch this gem, it's their and their loss alone. 🙂

The movie belongs to Vikram and Aishwarya ❤ everytime there were on screen - it was like thousand knives plunging into the heart at once... 💔 when one reads the book- even though the Nandhini character is of a negative shade- people absolutely love her.. They feel sorry but also hate her.. It's a very difficult character to portray.. But Aishwarya was flawless! If I am being honest, when I first read the books (in around 2005-06) I didn't care at all for the Athithya Karikalan-Nandhini romance. I was too busy falling in love with the scheming Nandhini and the charming Vanthiyathevan to notice the torment and agony of a man like Karikalan or even think that Nandhini was capable of love.. But Mani Ratnam, has given me a love story.. Vikram as Athiya Karikalan- Kalki's words describing the pain of his love and heartbreak have truly come alive...Especially- when he says- a man consumed by self-hatred can never find peace.. the anguish he portrays is just..agonizing! And the scene where Nandhini says- you're the only man who has seen Nandhini cry to Vanthiyathevan - 😢 wow.. It was just beautiful ❤I was cursing myself for not being empathetic to these amazing characters while reading the book... Gosh- I'd just read the book once again to focus on these two.. Vikram and Aishwarya were the soul of this movie..

I think the reason why Tamil industry can stand out from its contemporary
Counterparts is the very reason the movie can still become blockbuster through its global fan base regardless of its extremely poor performances across Hindi and Telugu belts . It has a liberty to operate independent of mass Indian audiences likings which restricts them down to contemporary mass masala templates and enables the Tamil makers to curry their unique flavours into their arts ! Same can be said about Tamil industries twin brother Malayalam ❤ that’s why we can see that this industry will produce vast quantities of hits equally from both commercial mainstream and art house productions. Like most historical political dramas it is complex with many characters and their individual personalities and motivations to keep in mind. Add to that if youre not a native tamil speaker its definitely hard to keep track of character names (not that I mind, i have a terrible memory and always have trouble remembering names in movies and shows regardless). But for me these are the things that made it good. Movies like this have faith in their viewers being able to make the effort to understand whats being said.

The series could instead focus on the events after PS 2 such as the tussle between Cholas and Rashtrakutas, the capture of the Pandyan assassins and Arunmozhil later Rajaraja's expeditions to Lanka and current day Odisha and Bengal, the construction of Brihadeshwara Temple (Dakshina Meru) and the journey of Chola ships to Song dynasty China and Srivijaya.

I would be happy to see some creator take this up and make a series of it. I understand there are financial constraints to it. But it's not just about that, even though the financial aspect is sorted, I don't think any other actors apart from the cast from movie will be able to do as much justice to the characters. Everyone has read about the story and characters but now they picture those characters with faces of these actors. A series in future won't likely satisfy people because it's not possible to get all these actors to potray characters again in a series, it'll take time for people to digest these characters being portrayed by other actors.

Reasons why less hype for Part 2:
1.Unlike BB2 or KGF2, this a based on book, so we already know what's going to happen
    2. While some ppl liked the raw, drama-driven part 1, many people didnt like the style of part 1, which didn' have trademark high moments of an Indian film
    3. Nature of songs. These are not songs for insta reels. And songs mostly worked in original language as translations couldn't capture that essence

So many people are complaining that "how GOT character names easier than PS character names". Yes it is. Because GOT is a long running series. One gets used to it. While it's a different take in PS.
This is for the Tamil viewers. Stop making everything a language issue.
    It's a time duration issue.

The part 2 of this movie has departed from the book, but i think it works. There is no way he could have all the twists and turns of the book in one movie. More characters and more backstories would be a Avenue to venture if and when someone attempts a web series. I loved the opening of the movie. It gives a context to the obsession of Karikalan which is shown in part 1. Many unexplained scenes of part 1 are also explained here. He has managed to close all the plotlines and present the heart of the story in 2 movies, which is great... A part of me wants all the rest to play out too... I waa waiting to see how he will handle the floods that rage the nation, but sadly it was cut out. The sweetest and tragic story of Manimegalai was also cut out. Hoping for a webseries...
