I read all the books, joined discussion forums on the characters ,and even watched more jayam ravi movies as he was the only cast member whose work I hadn't seen before. This is so exciting! You guys are reviewing even before most of us watched it ❤ Ponniyin Selvan is too dear to me. I am a Bengali, but when the PS1 trailer dropped last year, I was so interested that I read all the books, loved the movie, went on a heritage trip for the Chola trail in Tamil Nadu with historians - we explored the events and places described in the books vs real history. And now I am so excited about this second part release 😄 Thank you guys for appreciating this movie as it's not everyone's cup of tea.

Nandini always purely, whole-heatedly, unconditionally loved Aditha Karikalan, even to present day, even after what all happened.
Because imagine what would happen if she did confess or affirm that she still loves him? He'd take some reckless decision to be with her, or simply the thought of confessing her love for him at this dramatic point in her life scared her.

Raja raja, that is what PS came to be known as, gave away his throne to his uncle who ruled for 16 years, then became a monk. Raja Raja took over and the first thing he did was take revenge on all those people who were responsible for his brother's death. Those people were enjoying the patronage of the great aunt.

I saw fdfs ..ps2 is such a cinematic experience just go and feel it...dnt believe the haters ... pppl at our show clapped and gave standing ovation there is always hard to fulfill every one but not much hype very subtle characters driven ... seriously missed songs 🎵 it's start create hype and drops this is because time criteria even actions drops because of time constraints fuxk this is already 3hrs seriously it's not movie material it's a drama but I loved watching I accept whole hardly there is many goosebumps too just try it...

    *Spoilers*
I think by skipping the storyline of baby swap between Mathuranthakan and Senthan Amutham, the entire core story of the PS is spoiled.
Mathuranthakan is not the original son of Sembian Devi, and that's why she discourages him of wanting to be the crown prince and raises him as just a Shiva devotee.
If he is the original son, why wouldlnt she want him to be crowned?
And Sundara Choza and Kundhavai think very highly of Sembian Devi. If she wanted her son to be crowned they all would have agreed. There is no place for conspiracy here.
And he is always the rightful heir ,

The movie was great, however it took certain cinematic liberties & turned the climax to be different. The book climax is different. Ponniyin Selvan is all about Karthi’s character(Vandiyadevan), Trisha (Princess Kundavai), Aishwarya Rai’s character( Nandini). The story is in the book is extremely complex with side stories, political intrigue, palace coups, strategy and less about the love story of Nandini and Vikram’s character. It is about the Chola Kingdom, the rise of Arulmozhi Varman, the revenge fire of Nandini, the mute mother Mandakini, Kundavai’s smarts and the presence of mind of the boat woman - Poonkuzhali.. less about Vikram’s character. The completely bypassed the birth of twins by the mute Mandakini (old Aishwarya) and how the kids were switched at birth with another Prince. That was completely removed. Anyway, it was a great viewing… read the book.. it is an amazing 5 part book that is leagues beyond Lord of the rings or any of the western classic. Best part is, all these characters - The kings, Princesses, Chieftains, warriors etc were real people who existed as part of the chola empire. The only figments of imagination were Nandini(Aishwarya Rai), Old Aishwarya, the Boat woman.. even the assassins were real.

Was waiting to watch this review until I cud watch them peacefully in theatres rather than rushing with the crowd with all noise and miss all the nuances of the film...
The film was so fast that for example, when Vikram died you were still emotionally in that state, but by the time the next scene comes... So many situations that said that Mani Ratnam is someone who cud have taken it with confidence to may be 4 parts I guess.... Wow the sets were just out of the world.. So many details and massive... Very limited CG work... It was so real...
