    I know this is Short Circuit, but this is one of the few videos in LMG where I felt "Is this it? Where's the rest?"
    That cam is so interesting.

      Maybe if they added an extra video in the main channel with the full review, it would make more sense.
      Sure it gives you a good first impression, but at the same time you want to learn more about it, and that last aspect is not being explored enough.

      I guess other photography focused channels are there for that - this is a 'short' unboxing made for viewers with a varying level of interest.

      @@riveraluciano The major reason for this is likely how the youtube algorithm works. The main channel cannot have videos that only a few viewers are interested in. Shortcircuit is limited to 10min videos (+promos) for a good reason.

    I'd be interested in seeing what live video over usb-c looks like, and maybe compare it to some other common cameras that streamers use in the $500-$1000 range. Otherwise, it looks very compelling to someone like me that just wants a nice step up from my point and shoot for wildlife photos while still being relatively compact

      Yeah, apparently the video via UVC is limited to 720p with this camera (no idea about the bitrate though), which is a bit of a shame. I'm sure it looks about as good as 720p can -- i.e. better than a lot of tiny sensor-ed webcams like the Brio shooting what is **technically** 4K while delivering perceived resolution of 1080p or less -- but it's still a missed opportunity, imo.

      I'd also like to see the HDMI Output from it. I own a cheap-o ~30 dollar Capture Card which it's Audio Performance is a bit lacking, but the Video Quality is superb, but my Nikon D3500's HDMI output is a bit... Janky from what I remember. I think it outputs the settings and everything over HDMI, but I could be miss-remembering.

      Seconded - using an a5100 as my webcam via a USB HDMI dongle (1080@30) which is fine but no idea why'd they'd nerf the USB-C direct perfomance on this as it's no a bandwidth limitation.

    Huh, this is basically a better NEX-5R (from 2012 I guess?). I’m still rocking that one. Bit smaller, better autofocus and newer software. Same-ish sensor, same mount, almost identical button layout. I guess it’s an upgrade for me, but it doesn’t offer anything radically different to what my decade old one can provide in a still to date compact enclosure.

    I think the ZV-E10 is a fantastic camera for a vlogger. It has a very usable kit lens for vlogging has a built in ND filter and great audio. In many ways it is better than the ZV1 and I would almost recommend it over the ZV1 because of the eMount lens. The ZV1 however might be a better choice because of the f/1.8 (which is why I own two for my studio). If you need that background separation, low light capability, or even need a camera for streaming, then the ZV1 might be a better choice. The added cost of the Sigma glass is one reason why I wouldn't just tell someone to buy the 16mm f1.4 even though it could be the best vlog lens for the ZV-E10.
    The ZV-E10 is a direct competitor to the Canon M50 Mark II and I would definitely recommend buying the ZV-E10 given the better 4k, better microphone, built in ND filter, no record limit, and future proof mount. I would love to see what Canon comes out with to compete next. I would suspect that Canon will be dropping the price on the M50 Mark II because of the ZV-E10.

    Nowadays, the best 'beginner' camera, really, is the one on your smartphone. It's always with you, some come with native full-manual mode, and you can start taking photos any time anywhere. That's the best way to get started I guess. If you can shoot some nice photos with your phone, you can go up to others easily.

    Ive had mirrorless cameras since 2015 and I practically never use the EVF. Honestly, even before that, when I had DSLRs, I mostly used live view. The EVF/view finder is a hindrance to fun angles, imo. I dont know why I would ever use it tbh.

    Looks like a rebranded Alpha 6xxx camera with a better UI and USB-C. For vlogging is surely great since it's pretty light, but I'm not impressed by the video quality or dynamic range. For a bit more than the combo body + lens you can get a Fujifilm X-S10 with a basic 15-45mm lens which outclass this camera in every aspect (and has much better focus range on a similar lens).

    I don't know much about cameras above a point-and-shoot at the moment, so I'm curious. Is OIS a lens thing? (Would a different lens have made the walking portion smoother?) Because as it was, the walk-and-talk almost made me nauseous because of all the shaking. It didn't feel smooth at all.

    • @lockhrt999
      @lockhrt999 3 года назад

      For videos the stabilization comes from the software in modern phones. OIS even though it's present in some phones isn't even 5% as good compared to EIS

    • @athanray
      @athanray 3 года назад

      If I'm not mistaken, yes OIS is a lens thing (and IBIS is a body thing). Different lenses that have OIS might make the video smoother than the kit lens. I have the exact same lens (16-50) in a non-stabilized camera (A6400), similar to this setup, and I can say that the OIS on that lens is not great. The walk and talk will be better if they use a gimbal, but it's impractical.
      Though with a very light body, it's hard to eliminate that micro-jitter regardless of the lens. Using a gimbal, make the camera heavier by using a cage, or adding any other stabilizer will help a lot.

    • @tams805
      @tams805 3 года назад

      @@lockhrt999 OIS and IBIS are physical stabilisation. They tend to be expensive as you need to mechanically stabilise very small components. They also tend to offer limited (but good) stabilisation. But you don't sacrifice any of the image.
      EIS (often found in smartphones) offers much better and more noticeable image stabilisation. The downside is that it does so by sacrificing a considerable amount of the image, so only limited levels of zoom are available.

    • @lockhrt999
      @lockhrt999 3 года назад

      @@tams805 what good is image quality if the video isn't stabilized? A video taken from 300$ smartphone is going to be more usable than this 700$ dedicated camera.

    • @dianewebb1855
      @dianewebb1855 3 года назад

      really depends on the content you need your body to create. While the ZV-E10 is really nice, it's limited for photos. Something to think about. I do own the ZV-E10 and am a professional photographer, there are some instances where I'd use my pro over this, but for content creation for the vloggers this is a great camera and exactly why I bought it.

    As much as I don't want to get into another lens eco system, this is tempting. The ZV-1 was seriously impressive - mixed in great with my BMPCC4KS and GH5 (I used a Canon XF305, a proper £3K camcorder camera, in the same shoot and that was way more of a pain.) And the auto (focus and other) was just plain better. I think the GH5 gave it a run for its money in stabilization, but not by masses.
    It just a shame that Sony's menu system is hot flaming garbage. I'd also be curious how it copes with the heat. The ZV-1 generally way outlasted it's recommended run time (I've run it till the battery died) but even just as a webcam in the UK heatwave (yes 30c is a heatwave here) it couldn't cope. Whereas the GH5 and BMPCC4ks did back to back hour+ recordings without issue.
    On that, the battery also kind of sucks, obvs not as much as the BMPCC4Ks but they're easily adaptable and the ZV1 isn't.
