"is a good camera important?" If you actually did a fair test then no. If you actually wanted to test this, you would ask them to the exact same thing and compare the results. This was just a Linus vs. Brandon competition with a catch, nothing more. A good photographer is always more important than a good camera. The video itself, the idea and execution, where very awesome tho. You guys are crazy I love it :)
That's kind of the point of the video. There is no such thing as a fair/scientific answer to this question because in the real world you never know what's going to be thrown your way. It often comes down to improvising and making the most of the tool you have. In some cases a phone will be more than adequate, but in others a great camera will save even a very inexperienced operator.
A lot of people are upset we didn't explicitly say this in the video, but I had felt like it was pretty heavily implied by the results and the process. I guess not.

The best camera is the one in your hands when you need to get the shot.
WRONG A good photographer is as important as a good camera. The test would have been much better if they had given the appropriate camera to each. The Fuji for the pro and the phone for the blond guy, then each would have gotten the best possible outcome.

Now let's see Taran and Linus go head-to-head in editing. Linus uses his app of choice and Taran uses Windows Movie Maker.

Editing challenge is in the works with Jonathan Morrison and Taran . not with movie maker
Video editing is harder the more complex the software. You give a kid MS Paint and they can do some silly edits but they could save a picture. Give them photoshop and I doubt they could do anything.
@@ender-gaming except Linus isn't a kid. Taran is a professional vodeo editor. Also, the hard part about a professional app is the "manual" mode. Its 100% flexible, so the figuring out aspect maybe slightly hard. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how it turns out.

I dont feel like this was about cinematography or photography alone. Brandon had the best ideas when it came to setting up the shot and how they looked. But Linus was awesome at directing talent and being a leader with his creative ideas! For me it just shows that teamwork makes the dream work!

The editing of this video is the real star. It kept me very interested for the whole 38+ minutes. Plus, that last maternity shot was indeed on point by Linus.
Thats the power of editing. Normally a 38 minute video is long and you just want it to be over. Great editors over at LTT

To expand on this; this video is absolutely incredible. From James in a skin-tight greensuit running the track, Colton modeling with no pants on, to Linus & Brandon simply using tech they're less exposed to, everyone is just made to feel super uncomfortable. It makes such great content. The reactions are the definition of legitimate. Its a hard format to do often, but holy crap I hope they figure out a way to do more content with the same principle.
For sure, it's got an element of Channel Super Fun.
Just finished watching it. I've started watching this LMG videos 6 months ago and watched most of Linus Tech Tips videos and some fun channel and tech quicky videos but this one for me hit the spot. Everybody was genuinely enjoying this shoot, everything felt sincere, everything seemed spontaneous, everyone was "in the mood" and as a result it was a true comedy. No emotion was overemphasized ... and much, much more but I don't seem to find the right words to express it. An Oscar!
This video is absolutely amazing. Even though it's really comedic, it really feels like a TV Show with real challenges and judges and I can see Linus and Brandon really sweating it out. It feels real and fun. More of this content please guys :D

Brandon would hands down win. Video is a lot more complicated than photos especially when dealing with a RED camera
that depends on whether or not shit like external microphones, gimbals or lighting is allowed because that can be such a gamechanger for phones

Speaking as a photographer, Linus got a lot of very lucky spontaneous looking shots (which normal people like) while most of Brandon's shots are much better technically and better framed (which editors want).

@@Chief-wx1fj Normally it's not either-or. Usually you have enough time to take enough shots that you can get something natural and spontaneous and technically sophisticated.
as a photog hobbyist myself, linus should've had continuous mode on, or at least 3 shot burst. in my experience best way to capture lucky spontaneous shots is sheer volume.

I have to admit, Brandon is an amazing photographer, the level of skill and creativity is astounding. LTT should have a separate channel which reviews and benchmarks cameras.
