  • In Lithuania we find out the front tire was completely worn but a Lithuanian mechanic saves the day.

    After staying in Druskininkai it was time to travel further in to Lithuania on the motorcycle. After checking out the long waiting line of trucks at the Belarussian border we looked for a motorcycle mechanic or tire changer. The tkc80 was worn unevenly so the new Mitas mc23 Rockrider would have to be balanced properly which was done by a Lithuanian mechanic. At the workshop we had a chat with some locals and finished up the riding day in the city of Kaunas.

      The shark-tooth effect has more then one cause. Less airpressure, load of the bike (pillon and luggage) and of course the hight of the knobbies.

    Hi Pedro. Here is something that can help you in the future : Just balance your rims without a tire. Most of the imbalance always comes from the rims. So you can change your tires or repair the tube by yourself. Just let the weight on its place and you will be fine. Happy journey.

    Noticed that regular petrol (gasoline) is often out of the green nozzle in many of the European countries. Does that difference become a bit disconcerting? Green in the USA is diesel, did seem a bit odd choice at first. I mean we have Red, Black, Blue and Diesel is Green. It's like RGB excluding Yellow all the time. How about Purple and Orange or even Brown. HA
    Gotta love Marisca's at least on video VERY accepting attitude. Just going with the flow. I'm so jealous to have such a companion as her. Wishing Y'all the Best.

      I like two things about US distributors; u can pay with card (in most European countries you cannot - it's fcking anoying) and you have these covers on the nozzle that limit gas smell.
      Unfortunately paying by card is a pain in US - it sporadicaly works without problem.
      Yes, black is diesel here.

    Belated happy birthday mate. I hope you had a good one.
    New tyres, the smell of new rubber is awesome. I think I change my tyres before required just for the smell of it. I've a couple of old tyres in the back of my van now for a couple of months now and on hot days, everytime I open the side door I get a sniff of rubber. I'm wierd eh?
    How I got travelling into the Eastern block early on, we used to export Lada cars back to Russia via our contact in Lithuania. The Lithuanian's used to convert RHD cars to LHD in those lock ups with little more than basic tools. Very impressive to what we in the west have to work with. I admire the Eastern block states. They embrace what they have and make it work where as us westerners tend to just expect what we have and get dissapointed about what we don't have.

    On another note, I'm really curious what it is about your Transalp you like so much ?. I have a 2007 650 Transalp & I've never jelled with it. Underpowered, overweight, top heavy & with the 21" front wheel it's road manners are wanting & with it being so top heavy it's off-road manners are wanting. Is the older 600 better than the 650 ?, Or am I just missing something ?.

      Gintas didn't like it in fesh-fesh (sand). It is 60/40 tyre as they advertise. I had it as well and changed it quickly to more agressive one. If you drive more on asphalt I think the tyre is fine.
      @Pedro, enjoy Lithuania. Best of luck!

    • @iPedroMota
      @iPedroMota  2 года назад +2

      Chevron patterned front tires, or similar patterns, don't really grab in the sand. Instead of following the direction you want it to go the tire will push sideways in the sand. I've had a lot of experience with those (Scorpion, K60 scout) and for the most part you'll be alright when you can keep the speed up through the corners. Though on slower more technical bits the tire becomes increasingly wishywashy causing instability and front end wipeouts. For a long time I was ok with that only wanting the grab and push from the rear tire but once you experience a more grabby front too it's a game changer.
