      By all technicalities, Ryoma is more broken due to the 3 versions he’s (normally) playable in 2 of them. And in the one you can’t control him is conquest..... which is the game that doesn’t let you exp grind your entire army so if anything Ryoma is going to around or slightly stronger than you and Xander.

      You can still make a one man (or woman) army, with the right classes, characters and skills. For example that awakening skill from the great lord DLC class is insane, I have a female Corrin as a swordmaster and gave her the skills, awakening, vantage, dragon fang and lance and shuriken breaker, and she is pretty much untouchable in the offline gameplay, castle battles are a bit diferent, but she is still really good.

      @xanthiusdrake2775 Год назад

      I actually do have a neat story idea that would give Caeldori a reason to exist other then fan service.
      My idea was that because she is the reincarnation of Cordelia, Selena's mother, they should make it where she has flashbacks of her previous life in awakning, HOWEVER the flashbacks are from Selena's timeline, not the one the main story takes place, and my idea was that Caeldori at one point remembers the moment Cordelia left Selena and died in battle, and can tell Selena about it and Selena can finally learn what her mothers true thoughts and feelings were that day.

      I generally play either Normal Classic, or Hard Casual, at least back when I was replaying Awakening. I find Hard Casual to be a bit more fun, as I don't have to worry about any of my essential characters dying to an unlucky hit, crit, or series of improbable hits.I was new to Fire Emblem as of Awakening, so I still find Hard Classic frustratingly hard.

      Even so, the joke is REALLY starting to outstay its welcome at this point... I know you don't mean anything really negative by it, and people shouldn't be sensitive about the fact (I've developed a thick skin over it, so I'm good), but at the same time... you're usually not so predictable.
      I mean, when you brought up Takumi on your Top Character lists, I saw it coming from KILOMETRES away - not only was the build-up obvious, but it goes on long enough both times that nobody can miss it; not really up to your usual standard. Also... it's just getting lazy. It's starting to feel like cheap attempts at laughs, but also, because it's been so overused (not just by you, but the fanbase as a whole) at this point it's just becoming groan-worthy. Not to mention, even if it's not your intention, every time you bring it up it's getting more unnecessary and out-of-place - what does Takumi have to do with the child units, he wasn't even the parent of any of those 3 - and it's coming off as desperate, coattail-riding and gimmicky...
      Look, CRASH, you're a really pleasant guy to chat to, and your videos are great... but that's why you really don't need to resort to unoriginal, cheap jokes like that one. You're so much better than that, and recycling these over-played memes (and not in a good way) is a disservice to your love of the series, your intelligence, and the overall (still very-strong) quality of your videos as a whole. So just... please, stop with the cringe-worthy joke, especially given how ridiculously overused #BlameTakumi has already become.

    I personally enjoy the child mechanic, but I absolutely HATE the way they forced it into Fates. I think what they could do for the next game and still keep the mechanic is make the game split into two parts, the way Awakening did (fighting Gangrel to Validar). The time jump could be about 20 years, and the first mission in the second part of the game could start with the main lord's castle being attacked and the starting characters could be the lord, the lord's child, the avatar, the avatar's child, and a mix of 1st gen and 2nd gen characters. One character's entire backstory could be a child looking for their mother/father. Then, six levels later, you could have a level similar to Whereabouts Unknown from Rekka no Ken, but Lucius replaced with the child's mystery parent, and Raven could be replaced with a returning 1st gen turned into a sellsword to earn money to support their family or a new 2nd gen. It's not a perfect idea, but it's better than the Deeprealm garbage.

    Honestly, the best way I can think to fix weapons for more realism is that they keep durabilities, but they're recharged at the end of every battle. Sort of what soldiers actually do. They use their weapon, then they have it repaired and maintained so it lasts longer. That way, you can't spam the best weapons cause they'll break quickly, but you also don't have to worry about losing them too quickly.
    On another note, they could make another mode that is a bit more realistic as well. Basically, your units can retreat, but only after they've lost a certain amount of HP, and only at your request. For instance, you have a unit with forty HP, and it drops to ten. A little window come up, asking if the unit wants to retreat. If the unit goes from eleven to ten, then they die. If you say no, they can stay, but risk death.
    I just think these are ways to make the games a bit fairer/ more challenging. Thoughts?

    • @BLAZINGKNIGHT50
      @BLAZINGKNIGHT50  7 лет назад +13

      I think they're both good ideas, since with weapons you don't have to worry about the breaking in the next chapter as long as you don't break them in this one, whch adds a sense of strategy to how often you use them. I also like the retreat idea since a lot of the time people have to reset at the very end of the map, so if you can make someone retreat, you can finish them map without them and use them in the next chapter at your own risk.

    • @dragonarrow5525
      @dragonarrow5525 7 лет назад +13

      I like the recharging weapons idea and the retreat idea. Here are a few things I would personally add on to them. 1. You can repair weapons in armories rather then them recharging themselves. 2. If you keep it recharging on its own, it should recharge less and less the more you use it. 3. One more thing is, if you can have them retreat, they should be paired up and leave with their pair up partner. With that you add more uses to the pair up mechanic.

    • @browncow5210
      @browncow5210 7 лет назад +1

      I haven't played these particular games, but from what I've heard, maybe it would be a good idea to have breakability as its own drawback for specific weapons as a way to incorporate the old style back into the games while leaving the unbreakable debuffing weapons in too, allowing people to pick up and use whatever suits the situation.

    • @Suzaku_Mizutani
      @Suzaku_Mizutani 7 лет назад +2

      I quite like that idea, the repairing weapons thing. It was in my second favorite FE game, FE4 as a system where at your home castle/taken castles, you can go to a shop and get it repaired for a fee. It adds a neat little effect where you're going to have them repair their weapon and not just throw it away. Maybe also a penalty for this is the broken weapon mechanic in FE4 where if a weapon breaks, it will be become "Broken weapon". This broken weapon is extremely heavy, has shit hit, and no strength, so it makes you watch your weapons and to swap it around.
      My honest hopes for FE16 is the repair/broken weapon system from FE4, the pair-up, and one of either the CON system or St.- weapon Weight=speed loss (only if number is negative). IDK.

    • @Hats502
      @Hats502 6 лет назад

      For your weapon recharge durability idea, I like it and it kinda reminds me of repairing weapons in fe4. All weapons with a few exceptions had 50 durability and repairing them costed gold depending on what weapon. For example repairing a brave sword would obviously be more expensive than repairing an iron sword. And since you could do it at any castle you've conquered it made it really hard to actually break weapons.
      As for your retreating option, on paper it sounds good but when it's actually implemented it could hurt you. If you have then retreat you'd be down a unit. Instead of having them pull back a few spaces to get healed the way you make it seem is that they're leaving the map altogether. It's a solid idea but it can be improved on

      Its not the fact that they are unbreakable, its the fact how the better weapons debuff you to prevent you from using them too much. Pretty much all weapons beyond C lvl is useless, the stat devices can stack up and accumulate to make your character worthless. At least before, A and S lvl weapons were objectively better without any downsides.

  • @scarlett285
    @scarlett285 8 лет назад +195

    I can disagree with the weapon statement. I liked what they did with weapons because it added a layer of depth to what weapons you would give to who. You wouldn't give a steal weapon to a fast user but an iron. And if you need the weaker weapons stronger you can power them up.

    • @scarlett285
      @scarlett285 8 лет назад +14

      They did make silver weapons to weak though.

    • @Syrahl696
      @Syrahl696 8 лет назад +27

      I really liked that change because it turned what was previously a bookkeeping decision into a tactical decision.
      In previous games, your characters would hold onto multiple weapons, in case one breaks. And you would willfully choose to use a worse weapon over better ones because you needed to keep the better weapons in good condition to use against tougher enemies later. It wasn't a broken system, or even a bad one by any means, but that was how it was.
      In Fates, your characters would hold onto multiple weapons because even in the same category of weapons (say, lances) no one weapon is hands down the best for every situation. You would willfully choose to use a weaker weapon over a strong one because you can better handle it's downsides. I feel like those decisions were a lot more fun to make than decisions about weapon durability.
      The relationship between Iron and Steel weapons is reminiscent of the weapon weight system in the GBA games, where a heavier (higher tier) weapon would slow you down if you were too weak for it. I feel like one possible reason this system was scrapped in Awakening was because it was not transparent and obvious enough, and I like that they brought back the spirit of it for Fates, while presenting it in a better place.

    • @hypotheticalquestionasker3822
      @hypotheticalquestionasker3822 8 лет назад +1

      Well, actually, I would give faster units the Steel weapons, because they're generally fast enough to override the speed debuff with their own parameters. Otherwise, I'm on the same page with everything else.

      @lookslikedekulink 8 лет назад +2

    • @trueMCGRaven
      @trueMCGRaven 8 лет назад

      exactly. You just wouldn't send those fast Units (who tend to be more squishy anyways) in on just as fast units with lighter weaponry. Instead you would send in somebody that can dish out good damage.

    I think the only reason that the unbreakable weapons were added is because in Conquest you're dirt poor and can't buy new weapons on a regular basis. But that could have been fixed by simply giving you more money in Conquest.

    • @ThunderJams
      @ThunderJams 8 лет назад +16

      The reason why the Nohr path has so few resources is because Nohr has very limited resources. This is explained in the Birthright chapter Hidden Capital, so you can look up the script for this chapter as it explains it better than I could.

      +Jolt Trainer Well, I barely ever bought new weapons in Conquest, since there was infinite weapon durability, so I feel like that feature was made specifically for Conquest. I only ever bought the special weapons, like if I wanted to buy a Levin Sword for Leo or something. It also definitely made it harder, since you couldn't just forge really broken weapons.

      DaanRawks No, Ryoma still solos BR lunatic. With a good pair-up his bulk gets fixed, he's blocking a lot of attacks thanks to astra and guard stance, even if he gets hurt, he'll survive due to vantage. Plus, you don't really need to think since BR enemies have shit stats and no skills.

    One thing I really hate are the cheap character deaths/recruitment requirements. How the hell am I supposed to know that Kaze needs to have A support with the player in Birthright or he dies? I usually get all of my fighters a C-support first before I tackle B- and A-support, and the game punished me for that and killed one of my best units >=/
    Same goes with Flora in Conquest. How am I supposed to know that I need to have a Level 3 Magic Turret to get her? Well with her it's not so bad since you can fullfill that requirement by accident later and she will eventually join, but by that point she's too weak to be used anyways.
    And I heard a similar thing happens with Scarlet in Revelations. I haven't played it yet, but I looked it up beforehand because it seems the game wants you to look up an online-guide and punishes you if you don't.

    • @sen3680

      so, I'm guessing fates is either your first fe game, or awakening was. Because there's been much much worse in older games.
      Take for example, the infamous Shadow Dragon, as there are certain chapters where you can outright miss a character if you didn't know they were in this village, or miss another character due to them having hyper-specific recruitment options.
      and literally 2(I think) chapters into the game, you are forced to sacrifice a unit to progress.

      Fire Emblem 7 (the one before Sacred Stones) was just as bad....actually worse (though personally I don't really mind Kaze's preventable death and Scarlet just dies automatically) in that some of their chapters and characters were only accessed through certain requirements. Looking at SS (as I also played it) there really wasn't any special requirements for chapters. But FE7 was THE game that you had to look online to actually get its full potential as some of the requirements were too cryptic for my taste. Like you could only get the games only Dark Mage (Shaman they were called back then) through a bonus chapter that you could only get by having one of the three NPCs in the previous chapter survive. Along with bonus chapters only being available if you get characters to certain levels or gain certain amount of EXP during the chapter. So really, while the whole Kaze thing really is a blindside....it could be a WHOLE LOT WORSE *cough FE7*

    A few point to clear,
    1-Casual mode was introduce Fire Emblem: Shin Monshō no Nazo ~Hikari to Kage no Eiyū~ (or Mystery of the Emblem remake for short)
    2-If you add up the price for each route by downloading it around $80, would you pay for a game on the 3DS that is $80 (That not special addition) when the highest was $50 and and which most of them have fewer content.
    3-Here the thing Pheonix mode is only there too enjoy the story and get a bit more dialogue option or what you think you can use base class Sakura to take on Lobster prince Ryoma in Revelation.

    • @chuguvsme
      @chuguvsme 8 лет назад +2

      Also forgot to mention
      4- Buff or debuff on weapon do have another use like thinking on a better strategy and not wave around a weapon like an overpower character I mean once you had access to silver weapon, brave weapon and the best throwing weapons for a class everything becomes unbalance and it becomes really easy and chapter don't get much harder from there.
      5-Unlimited use, when good for the player to attack and not worrying if arm smith activated or not when the weapon is almost depleted and people finally stop stalling the enemy until it weapon is depleted

    I think the new forge system deserves mention here as a bad change. You have to combine weapons and slowly farm gems to upgrade weapons. On top of that, stronger weapons are full of drawbacks, so the best endgame ended up being Iron weapons with lots of grinding at the forge.
    Alternatively, they could have made the price of these mighty weapons high enough that you could only buy a small handful of them across the game and kept factors like weight preventing weak characters from using strong weapons like it's nothing.
    Even the S rank weapons in this game are simply mediocre.

    • @TheEeveeKing
      @TheEeveeKing 5 лет назад

      Actually, I'd like to say that with the exception of the S axe and *S*taff, the S rank weapons generally rank rather highly in terms of physical power.
      Hagakure blade gives 20 Avoid, and has +15 Damage over the Sunrise Katana. You'd have to have 32 STR to have that difference be noticable, and that's only 1 in every 2 turns.
      Waterwheel is a similar case, and though you'd lose Damage over all, you'd get +10 Avoid, +20 Crit Avoid, and +10 Hit. Really, this one's advantages are strong.
      Pursuer loses defense and res, as well as avoid, but comes with a STAGGERING 22 might, +5 AS, and +10 crit. Your opponent also gets +5 AS, but you shouldn't be using this against units that are faster then you anyways.
      Characharm is well....+7 AS and +5 AS, and cripples your defenses by 5 each, though decreases STR, MAG, DEF, and RES by 6 for debuffs.
      Exaclibur has...+5/+5 for AS for both sides, Effectiveness against all fliers, AND 25% crit. it SHREDS fliers with 36 might.
      These are all excellent weapons in their own ways.

    I personally really like casual mode, since it doesn't evaporate the challenge. Some levels get very stressful as you're brought down to the last man, but the victory if you can pull that off feels incredible. Phoenix mode I will take umbrage at. even on casual mode, losing units felt dangerous, espeacily if you needed that unit. But phoenix makes it literally impossible to lose on every map that doesn't have an alternative failure state.

    I really enjoyed the new weapon balance. It's much more fun to use weapons strategically during battle as opposed to "Hey let's go buy 10 javelins and 10 hand axes, again." while keeping plenty of other good weapons mostly unused for the entire game. Most players would simply use Iron weapons and cheap 1-2 weapons for the entire game out of fear of running out of their best weapons.
    That being said, the mechanics does need a few tweaks and some high-ranked weapons (mostly silver weapons) require a buff. They also need to nerf forging, since forging Iron/Bronze weapons is way too cost-effective.
    Great video overall though, I agree with most of your other points.

  • @SageVallant
    @SageVallant 7 лет назад +4

    Actually, the things I heard about the reasons for the game being split in two is that it was too large for the basic 3DS cartridge. 3DS cartridge sizes are 2g, 4g, and 8g. Of course, larger cartridges cost more money to manufacture.
    Now, what I heard is that the games came in at a bit over 2g on a single cartridge. Seeing as the series almost died with the last iteration, I can imagine they wouldn't want to manufacture a large number of cartridges at the 4g size and have to price them at like $50 instead of $40. Even though it costs more to go content complete this way, the customer buys in at $40 and has to actually like the game before sinking more money in. But as for the Collector's Edition, they certainly had the option of using a larger cartridge available. It was merely a question of cost and risk whether it would be worth it for the main production run.
    I'm not saying I'm completely cool with their decision to split up the game, I'm just trying to relay the story as I heard it. I'm still on the wall about whether I feel like I got my money's worth out of the three routes.

    • @michaelnicholls5077
      @michaelnicholls5077 7 лет назад +4

      That makes sense in theory, but the special edition has all 3 routes on 1 cartridge, so that reason goes right out the window.

    • @SageVallant
      @SageVallant 7 лет назад

      Michael Nicholls Did you look at the sizes of the cartridges? The third one was 4 times the space of the base cartridge, which the lone games fit on. Both Birthright and Conquest combined didn't quite fit on the 2g cartridge. Even if all three routes would have to have the full data for each path (they wouldn't, many assets in Revelations were re-used from one or both of the other paths) that would still probably only be about 3g to 3.5g.
      Again, I'm not denying the possibility it was a cash grab. I'm never happy when the true or best ending is DLC rather than part of the game. Although, in this case, the other routes do have mostly satisfying conclusions. Though with some gut-punches.

  • @CountMonsparkle
    @CountMonsparkle 8 лет назад +41

    In Fates you're supposed to choose a side and STICK to your decision. It should mean something that you can't just go back and change the decision whenever you like. It makes for a much greater impact on the player. The average player isn't even supposed to play through the other campaign, except if you are a really hardcore fan (and if you are you'd buy the special edition anyways). And each of the three campaigns offers more than enough content so the price for one version is justified.
    I do see the problem with people who don't know about this game and blindly pick one of the two copies though. But I think they only did this in the american/european version. In the original you buy the game, choose your path in Chapter 6 and the game locks you in afterward. Not sure why they decided to change that in the western release. But still, if you looked up a little about this game before buying it, you will buy the right version anyways, so most of the fans aren't even affected by this choice of marketing.
    Honestly, I think the way they handled it in this game is much better compared to pokemon, where they literally sell two versions of the same game.

    I disagree all the worst changes on your list except #3 and #1. I like the unlimited weapon use because it gave weapons a reason to be named. And I also like the variety of weapon buffs and debuffs. It makes each weapons more situational and gives more reason to have 5 inventory slots.

      Hurrikale Idiot. Eternal Seals are too expensive. And they don't increase the level cap that much. And let's not forget that the more level you have, the longer it takes to level up. Unlike in Fire Emblem Awakening, we could still get around 10 EXP per kills. Not only will we need to farm EXP but also money for the Eternal Seals. That is not the only reason why I don't want to use the eternal Seals. The other reason is that I don't want levels to be over 20 because that's like the default level cap in the Fire Emblem series. Also, keep in mind that I have OCD. That means I want all characters to have the same level. This is way too much work for me. It makes me not enjoy the game very much and that's a shame. it would have been much better for my mind and enjoyment of the game if it wasn't for the requirements of Eternal Seals.

    I always felt that Fates should've had an e-shop demo that makes a save you can use with the full game-- you play the first five chapters, until the moment you save your game after the fifth one. When you buy the game, you can choose to import that savefile and keep all of your data in the rest of your playthrough. This lets you get a good grasp of the story, and get a good jumping off point for when you're ready to really dive in.

    Honestly, I do understand why people don't like Phoenix Mode, I do. It makes the game way too easy. But there's something that I don't feel a lot of people see in why it's there. Phoenix Mode is there so that you can just focus on enjoying the story your first time through, and then once you have some more experience, choose casual or classic for your following playthroughs. It's also so that you can get a chance to see the different boss conversations that are out there, without worrying about loosing your troops. Did you know that in the Rainbow Sage chapter on Conquest where you fight Hinoka, that Hinoka and Azura have a conversation together? No? That's because if you had been on any setting other than Phoenix Mode, it would've been too damn risky to have Azura fight Hinoka, considering how frail she is. Phoenix Mode is all about testing the waters when your blind, and yes, for my first playthrough of each route, I am not ashamed to say that I played on Phoenix Mode. Why? Because now that I have a better idea about how each map works, I feel that I can safely play Fates on Casual Mode, without my units loosing out on too much exp. And honestly? When I first heard that they were introducing Phoenix Mode into Fates, I was a little relieved. Why? Because I knew that something that happened to me my first Awakening playthrough (my first ever Fire Emblem game mind you) would not happen to me again. My first time through Awakening, I did not get Donnel, because for the life of me, I could not keep him alive long enough to get him a level. And the one time that I did manage it, Chrom bit the dust due to a fluke crit, and I had to start from scratch. Eventually, I just grew tired of not being able to get Donney, that I gave up on him, and didn't get him. Now, since my first playthrough of Awakening, I learned a lot, and am able to keep him alive, and get him very well leveled now, I didn't have that opportunity my first time through. (Did not help that I didn't have Kellam because I missed him, and then didn't realize that I didn't have him until MUCH later in the game, and therefore resulted in Sully remaining forever alone with no Kjelle, but still.) My point is, I wish that people would stop bashing Phoenix Mode without considering the fact that the point of this mode is to get familiar with the game, and to try for trial and error.

      Otter Hero Many people consider many different chapters in the Fire Emblem franchise difficult; some may think that the Nabata Desert chapter in Fire Emblem: Sealed Sword is hard, others think it's the final chapter of Fire Emblem: Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War that gave them trouble, or Day Breaks in Path of Radiance.. I just don't know. All those chapters are beatable fairly easy if only you use your brain. It's not even hard. Most people just rush and end up being punished for it. They simply don't think. Thus, Casual Mode was born, followed by Phoenix Mode which they could've just called Casual+ Mode.

    Wow, this one came much sooner than I expected. And a good video at that. But I'm totally jealous that you got a Special Edition, it sold out way too fast here :P
    I'd say I agree with everything but the removing of Weapon Durability, and even then I see the flaws in it, I think like Pair Up in Awakening it's something that needs improvement. But, at the same time, even some of the positives are things that do have room for improvement. My Castle is awesome but I wish there weren't region locking with regards to visits, I'd love to visit yours and in turn let you buy skills in mine. Personal Skills are a wonderful concept but there are balance issues (Dwyer's is pretty useless in most battles, for instance, while Midori's can be totally broken if utilized right). But still, the fact that there's room for improvement means the series can still evolve and be better, which is all the better.
    Birthright and Conquest really should've been on the same cart, totally agree there. I heard that in Japan, if you bought the digital version, you got to go for the first five chapters and when you got to the branch of fate, it gave you the option to download one of the two initial routes for free, then if you wanted the other you'd have to pay. That's a little better, but having both initial two routes available should've been the way to do it from the get-go.

      True. While the concept offends the sensibilities of hardcore FE fans, they don't have to choose it. 5) Yeah, not much to say here, other than if they do intend to keep re-classing, they better stick with this version or use the version used in FE11 and FE12 though make the change permanent.
    4) Meh, if Dragon Veins were optional and could be avoided when it comes to completing certain maps, like that retarded wind chapter, then I would have liked it more. If that was the case there would really be a sense of choice when it comes to how you approach chapters, you could go the generic route which could have it's bonuses, or use the Dragon Veins, which could also yield bonuses, but in the end, both have positives and negatives. Otherwise, I think it distracts from the Level Design.
    3) Yeah, definitely agree with Personal Skills, it at least it makes some of the characters interesting, seeing as Fates still had 1 Dimensional Anime Stereotypes for characters with only a small handful of exceptions
    2) Nope, nope, nope, I honestly hate the My Castle Feature. I can understand why some people like it, but honestly, many of the things that My Castle brings distracts from the game-play, and i know a few people who literally spend more time screwing around in their stupid castle that actually playing Fire Emblem. Feeding a half-retarded Dragon, picking some wheat, digging for some Amber, blowing on the touch-screen to cool down you waifu, what does this have to do with Fire Emblem? Honestly Path of Radiance's Barracks or FE12 Battle Preps were more than enough R&R with my comrades for me. Every playthrough of Fates(which I don't usually do since i kinda dislike all 3 versions), I always ignore My Castle except for what I used FE12 battle Prep's for.
    1) Yup, definitely agree with Pair Up, somewhat. I love the way they implemented the Pair Up Mechanic, Though I wish there was a way to turn it off, still, It is fairly balanced, and enemies can use it. If IS doesn't feel like removing it, than at lease use the version in Fates.
    5) Yeah, the Children need to screw off, unless they plan to have the Story Structure of Genealogy of the Holy War.
    4) Yup, instead of making interesting and compelling characters,(by fates standards atleast) re-hashing old ones is guaranteed to make out game sell well! Though i still thing Severa, Owain and Inigo can screw off as well.
    3) Yeah, Phoenix mode can fuck off. Casual mode i think is unecessary and they should instead bring back the Prologue Chapters from FE7 and FE12, as a way to introduc new players, and to give the player strong and trained units for when they play the main story.
    2) Agree with this one as well. Micromanaging weapons with units was always a part of Fire Emblem (Except FE2). I think this mechanic is meant to make it less stressful to new players, but honestly, I found myself having way too much gold by the end of the game, and there is no sense of resource management. But i do like the fact that they nerfed the 1-2 range weapons, as it made Archers and Thieves viable combat options.
    1) Yes, Yes, Yes I blame the Awakening Fan-boys for this one. Usually I don't like to point fingers, but this is most definitely their fault and they need to be called out on it. (Im going to quote mangs when I say this)Why couldn't all you Weeaboos complain about the things in Fates that mattered before it got released. Why of all things did you chose to whine over the removal face-rubbing? Why couldn't you complain about the things that mattered? Such as Phoenix mode? Or the Pokemon-style business changes? Or how about Awakenings shit level design? Or Awakening's bland as fuck characters and shit story? Why did you chose Face rubbing? You wuld rather pet your Waifu with a stick, rather than to play a good fucking game? Where did FE go wrong? Im starting to think Awakening brought in the wrong crowd.
    Anyways, great video mate. I find it funny that I always agree with you on your "worst" lists rather than your "best lists".

    • @AniNeferti
      @AniNeferti 7 лет назад +12

      If it's Fire Emblem we are talking about, strategy is all the reason they needed to balance things out.
      Awakening was broken in regards of what you could do with the characters, up to the point where even Lunatic became a lot more easier when you decided to put some work into it and grind your ass off. Basically.... a joke.
      Thankfully, Fates decided to fix this. I've said it once, I'll said it again: Balancing things out for the sake of strategy is the only reason they needed. That's what Fire Emblem is, after all: Using your brain to beat a chapter by figuring out the best possible units, routes, match-ups, skill combination, classes and supports. That's what FE has always been about. And while Awakening was good, its mechanics completely destroyed that.
      Fates, and especially Conquest, managed to get this back on track. And while it's correct that FE is not a competetive game, its overall purpose of being a strategy game calls for balancing.

    To provide a counter argument to the unbreakable-weapon segment, as some weapons are extremely powerful (as you said) and if they had no disadvantages, wouldn't that ruin the challenge in a level as much as Phoenix mode? I know I may be over exaggerating but it's practically the same thing. And I rather like the removal of durability because weapons breaking is one thing I'd rather not worry about. Maybe they could've made that part of Classic mode, since it's supposed to be like the original Fire Emblem games.

  • @LuzCeleste114
    @LuzCeleste114 8 лет назад +3

    IMO the best change fates made was the fact you can choose a side. Fire emblem has always been about seeing both sides of a war and you always get units from the side you're fighting against in all games and you always get to see the other side's perspective. However fates took it to the next level, imagine beig able to side with Grado on sacred stones because of Lyon and seeing it from the inside and maybe finding a way to save Lyon while he still dies if you side with Renais, I realize this wouldn't work in all games and maybe it could be something like pick a character to follow and they both have different sides on the conflict... The reason why radiant dawn was my favorite fire emblem game was because you got to take control of both armies as they inched towards an ending in which all sides are fighting together you saw all sides of the war and how it impacted neutral and involved nations alike. That's what I love about fire emblem and I'm glad fates took that concept and made it it's own and I hope in the future we can see more of that.

      Honestly, I understand why Nintendo made two versions. Each is it's own whole game, so they couldn't have two games for the price of one. WHAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND, IS WHY THEY DIDN'T JUST MAKE A, "FIRE EMBLEM FATES", AND HAVE BOTH GAMES ON IT FOR $80. INSTEAD OF MAKING IT EXCLUSIVE TO SPECIAL EDITION, IN WHICH IF YOU HADN'T ORDERED AFTER THE NINTENDO DIRECT, YOU HAD TO WAIT UNTIL AFTER THE GAME'S RELEASE, BE SPOILED BY THE INTERNET, AND KNOW 90% OF THE PLOT WHEN YOU GET IT.

      the thing about the older games is you played for one side yes but you saw the POV of the enemy and see the morality of the situation (a good fire emblem should have enough morality to make you want to fight with the villian like for example zephial in fe6

      Darth_Diminish The Wolf Well, while I do see what you're saying I think most Fire Emblem games did it well. I'd be entirely cool with being part of the black fang, maybe going on some missions as the missions get more and more questionable as Nergal gets more and more control, maybe even get the four fangs as allies, the story could change a lot with someone on the inside of the Black Fang. Same with Sacred Stones, I can see Eirika joining Lyon to find out what's going on with Grado and maybe finding a way to save him somehow, maybe a bit of a stretch since they're both Lyon's friends, but, maybe then Ephrain could become an antagonist not agreeing with Eirika's choice. Path of Radiance not really since Daein is pretty much the source of everything and Ashnard seems like he has no tie to your army. Radiant Dawn, pretty much already takes you to every nation and gives you a bit of control in all of em. Awakening might also not work since Plegia is pretty meh... I dunno in my head it sort of works, maybe I'm grasping at straws, obviously those games weren't meant to be games where you will join the opponent, but, I think the game would be a lot more awesome of you cool and regardless of how fates handled it, I still respect em for giving us the choice.

      Luz Celeste the thing about the whole choose your path thing besides the payment is you have an avatar who is probably one of the most hate-able of characters your seeing his POW on which side he wants to be with whereas how it should be is which side you as the player want to see the POW of with a different lord etc

    I really don't know why people hate so much Phoenix mode
    Is not like the game make you play it '-'
    Or suggest you to play if you die too much
    Is just there for really casual people that just want to have fun playing the game
    more reckless and without too much strategy

      Mauriosf83 And I can totally see why. I enjoy Awakening, but I'm beginning to think I like it for the wrong reasons....almost. Idk. Like, I enjoy watching my units grow, and theres fun in seeing some of your units become demi-gods in the battlefield....but that's not how fire emblem should really be, you know?

    • @Mauriosf83
      @Mauriosf83 8 лет назад +2

      well i dont think there's such thing as a "wrong reason" to like something , if you do like it , you like it , thats all , but for me at least, the stories both on Awakening and Fates are pretty bad and lazy , the gameplay has improve , but at the cost of the stories and characters, also , it doesnt help that i prefer the desings of older FE games , the "new" ones hace this weird feeling of being off color , maybe its just me

      Well, Awakening does have a weak story, but I still like the story in Fates, for what it is. buuuut, it could've been better. Like maybe if Fates was just one single game, just with more chapters? Not necessarily as much as Radiant Dawn, but you know, more than the usual. But I still like stories and the lore, even with it's issues.

    I like the game for what it is. It got me into Fire Emblem/ I only just finished that one hard level where you got to protect the green zone from Takumi for 11 turns. That took me almost a year to beat

    I play casual mode specifically because I don't like losing a unit because of what might be an unlucky break or just a single unit being gang raped by about ten enemies. Do I wish to play the earlier games for a bigger challenge? Certainly.
    But is it a problem that on all ten plus playthroughs of Awakening and Fates have been casual just for a fun experience to sink tons of hours into?

  • @caliburnabsolute8517
    @caliburnabsolute8517 8 лет назад +1

    Hold up, hold up. Awakening didn't introduce Casual mode, though I can understand the misconception. It was the game before that, the Japan-only New Mystery of the Emblem, which introduced Casual mode. I really wish that game left Japan, since it was essentially the precursor to Awakening, but I guess a fan translation is good enough.

    The only thing about weapon durability that I dont agree with is that you have an infinite amount of throwing weapons (javelins, daggers, clubs, shuriken, etc) funny how they just respawn after you use them. Would have been cool if they kept the durability for those but removed it for weapons that clearly shouldnt run out, even tomes because its really just a book lmao. Another cool mechanic they could play off that is have bows not break, but have the option to buy limited arrows or something like that. Just a thought, great video as always!

    It's worth noting that the unbreakable weapons system was actually introduced in Fire Emblem Gaiden for the Famicom. I can see why you mentioned it as a new mechanic in Fates since Gaiden is arguably the most forgettable in the series. Even most of the characters in Gaiden lack artwork yet the first Fire Emblem did, where did they go wrong?
