Honestly, you're actually right tbh.
If you click on her portrait on the battle prep menu before you start, her regular animal form still appears, even after her "death."
You know, if I had been in charge of the Xander story, I probably would've had it be a race to get to Xander before he escapes and kills himself over the guilt of killing Elise, then if you catch up to him and talk to him with the avatar then he would live and become the peaceful king of Nohr. He wouldn't become one of your units because he can't bring himself to raise his sword after the death that he caused. If you don't catch him then it changes the ending by removing Xander entirely, having Nohr fall into hard times because it doesn't have Xander as a qualified leader.
So basically my idea would be to make Xander a good person that actually matters in the game
Also it doesn’t make him look like a complete moron and prick. Seriously the way he says he’ll still fight for garon, especially when after he dies, he says he knows that garon’s far gone makes him look like such an idiot
I personally prefered Birthrights story compared to Conquests, it may also help that I'm more sympathetic to the Hoshidan cause then I am Nohr's. I just think the story makes a lot more sense, but Conquest's take on things are interesting.
Though I will say that Birthright makes Xander seem like a stubborn douchebag who won't listen to reason for the sake of "Oh tragic heartbreak! We were once siblings but now we are enemies! I'm sorry Little Princess, but I cannot see Father's obvious evilness!"

And Ryoma and Takumi are purely Butthurt about me buying the better version.
ikr xander seems nicer in conquest but very stubborn in birthright and revelation
Conquest punishes the brain,
Birthright punishes the heart,
and Revelation punishes your wallet
Xander is considered by the fanbase a Camus archtype (guy loyal to his country but stubborn and not willing to listen) which is not very loved by the fanbase.
They CAN be loved as characters, but it's a matter of execution... Take for example Selena - not "Fates" Selena, I'm talking about Selena Fluorspar, one of Grado's generals from FE8. Anyway, General Selena is very loyal to Grado, and stubborn about it, but she's also painted as a tragic victim of circumstance; she has VERY well-explained reasons to be loyal to Emperor Vigarde (he sent provisions to her starving village, despite they couldn't even pay taxes, and also in their most dire time to boot) and seems to consider him almost a father-figure from her dialogue with various characters. She's also not totally unreasonable - while she brands General Duessel a traitor on the spot for questioning his orders in Chapter 10 (leading to him joining Ephraim soon after), on Chapter 13 after speaking to Myrrh her Boss dialogue with Duessel has her apologising to him and saying she understands WHY he sides against Grado, while also stating she can't bring herself to do the same... Seriously, she's positively gracious towards Myrrh, lets her go back to Ephraim instead of taking her hostage, and doesn't fight with anger but solemn acceptance; and much earlier, when she's been forbidden in Chapter 2 to stop the bandit attacks in war-torn Renais, she hires Eirika (who is posing as a mercenary) to dispose of them - stating that the people shouldn't suffer just because their leaders are at war.
That said, even characters like Selena Fluorspar - and Camus himself, from the Akaneia games - have the key trait which people don't always like: absolute loyalty, even when they disagree with their master (or their country) in methods... I think that General Bryce of the Four Riders from "Path of Radiance" may be the best example of why many people dislike the Camus archetype - when he speaks to King Ashnard of Daein, his liege lord, Ashnard outright admits to Bryce's FACE that he murdered his own father the previous (and more benevolent) king, gloating because he knows that Bryce won't raise a sword to him because of his sworn vows of loyalty. And... there's also the Wyvern Generals of Bern in FE6: Murdock fights to the last to keep King Zephiel's enemies away from his king, and both Brenya and Galle continue to fight for their cause even after Zephiel's death because they can't see another path and are bound by their oaths; none of the three are horrible people (unlike Narcien, who wasn't as qualified as Galle and was punished for his incompetence with demotion) and they don't agree with the war, but they fight because in their eyes, they don't have a choice - none of them (or Bryce from FE9) have spite towards their enemy, but they feel they must stay the path despite not agreeing with it...
This is the embodiment of the Camus archetype in FE, and within it we can see why people can either sympathise with them or not - by the standards of medieval society (or feudalism in general), being loyal to your cause is paramount to all else, especially so once you've sworn loyalty to it. By such standards, YOU are not in the wrong for staying the course, your MASTER is and you are just (in theory, at least) an extension of their will; if you continue to fight for this cause despite hating it, you're an honourable and worthy opponent who is worthy of, at worst, pity; if you turn against it, you're a turncoat and a scummy person even if you actually had VERY good reason for it (see: Jaime Lannister from the book series "A Song of Ice and Fire", who did just that). When you're stuck in a situation like this, it's lose-lose unless you can find a third option - which "Fates" does in the "Revelation" path, and which other characters in both "Conquest" and "Birthright" use to argue their causes (Silas, Kaze, Corrin himself/herself, Azura, etc.)
Of course, the reality IS a lot more grey than that - as "Conquest" shows, the decision to let Garon slaughter the soldiers at Fort Jinya earns the Nohrian army as a whole some heavy ire from Yukimura, which is made worse by the fact they PROMISED to spare them before Garon's orders AFTER made it impossible... Silas was lucky that in "Birthright" Corrin sparing him and explaining his/her motivations gives him a reason (or excuse) to join their forces, besides "we were best friends as kids, and I don't want to hurt them" at any rate.
The hardest part of Birthright for me was fighting that adorable little cinnamon bun, Keaton! WHY KEATON!? WHYYYYYYYY!?!?!?

I honestly didn't find Tears of a Dragon emotional, at all. In fact I actually started laughing because of the unnecesary sacrifice (I mean come on, Corrin had an entire army and Lilith of all people takes the blow?).
There's also the fact that outside of the prolouge chapters, she never shows up throughout the story and barely has any personality (all she does is eat a bunch and say 'thank you' all the time).

Like I really like Flora, but her death is just ludicrous.
PLOT TWIST: SHE'S THE AVATAR'S SISTER....
It hit me harder when I realized that her shrine is now empty- with the exception of Lilith's Kerchief on the floor. This, and she is replaced by a mere ghost on the battlefield- it was like losing a dog.

Lilith lived as she died. Random and irreverent.
Lilith’s death just felt meaningless when Corrin should EASILY be able to OBLITERATE Hans. If they played a crit sound effect, and had Hans say a crit voiceline while doing a cut in, THAT might’ve made more sense. Like, you see Hans getting a crit in a middle of a cutscene, but then Lilith jumps in just before it lands.
But what it REALLY needed was for Lilith to actually do, like, ANYTHING throughout the story. She just gives you the castle, and then sits in her temple until showing up out of nowhere and sacrificing herself. Like, wth. Where was she throughout the whole story?!
I literally one shoted Xander in his chapter
So did I, literally never completed a fire emblem chapter so fast. As birthright is so easy I had no incentive to grind for exp on the other enemies

What's funny is that the cutscenes shows Xander is at the advantage, and your at the deaths front door, yet Ryoma's chapter makes it seems like he is at the door. When in reality it is the opposite... fuck. Irony.
Chapter 25, at least at the end you get to see Iago reduced to a sniveling crying wreck begging for mercy.

I found it kind of silly how I could almost instantly pinpoint the chapters you were talking about when you did your Conquest chapter lists, but I couldn't do the same for this list. Kinda shows how much more compelling Conquest was, and how unique (or terrible) each chapter was. Really looking forward to more of your content!

The fight against Xander felt like Luke vs Vader in return of the jedi, The avatar gets pissed because of an emotionally damaging event, than viciously attacks Xander, beating him back and eventually overpowering him without much effort

Bullshit are wrong choices in chapter 22 not too bad. Up to 6 waves of enemies and stoneborn. This chapter made me ragequit as it punished me too hard

Yup I had the same thing. and even worse, when you wait too long the chapters auto activates the next 2 dragon vains WITH RESPAWNING UNITS. I reset after 26 turns and tried it again with the right dragon vains, but the stoneborn were still anoying
Birthright is easy. You're playing incorrectly.
Sniping stoneborn wore down my units so much that I got pissed- pissed enough to actually bring Ryoma to the front lines- normally I let my other units to the fighting and just have Ryoma pick off others or save others whom get trapped or swarmed- and sometimes as a boss killer- that way the game is just more fun since there is still some challenge. After tediously walking through and constantly getting poked by Stoneborn to a point where I needed to heal even my tankiest units, I reached to final slope. Only ti pick the wring vein and get immediately swarmed. Then just as the lava ran out... IT RETURNED AND THE ENEMIES RESPAWNED. At that point I just went "F*** IT." I flew Scarlet right up to the boss and switched to Ryoma, then just let him clear the entire final floor on his own- because I was just TIRED OF THIS BS.
Neon Darkness You can just block all the holes before making a choice, and then use fliers and azura to "snipe" the boss and get it over with

Conquest is better gameplay wise but Birthright is better story wise and Revelation is a great middle ground.

Well, the three suffer from bad writing (Birthright specially because Conquest at least has better gameplay to make up for the writing and Revelations allows you to make team comps with both paths' characters, which can appeal people who like the characters)

Man i feel so dumb. Birthright is only me 2nd fe game after awakening and i feel like i legitimately struggled way more than everyone seems to suggest. Is that because it's mostly series veterans saying it's easy or am i daft?
Well birthright is easier than most FE games, in terms of both level design and the fact that you can grind, but people can still find it legitimately challenging especially if they're new to the series, don't worry you're not daft.

Was Lilith's death really all that sad?
It was better handled in this route since the one who did it is designed to be a hate-sink character, so it made sense for him to do it instead of a random faceless.

I like how we have the emotional scene of Lilith's death in that chapter, and then there's just fucking Sakura in a clown hat and ninja mask.

Chapter 24 is one of my faves because of the clutch Vantage activation I got that saved Oboro from certain death by granting her a Dual Guard. It was such a nice challenging map and you just gotta love it whenever you survive a near death moment :3

Am I the only one who couldn't take any of those character deaths seriously? I mean, those characters had like 0 development in Birthright, their death dialogues were cheesy and clichée and the situations always felt way overdramatic. Elise's sacrifice didn't even have any effect since Xander decided to ignore his sister's death wish and beat you up anyway.
Sorry, but in terms of writing, I liked Awakening much better.
Are you kidding? It might just be because Birthright was my first FE main game, but I felt all those deaths RIGHT IN THE FEELS. The fact that Elise did all she could to try and stop the fight, that Xander had to protect his country (well not so much that one, killed him turn 1 lol), AND WHY THE HECK DID LILITH DIE that was the most noble sacrifice I've ever seen. I don't have awakening, so on its own, I LOVED Fe birthright
Xander ignoring Elise's dying wish cemented him as my least favorite character in all of fates. Screw his justice bullcrap, he's just making sorry excuses to keep Garon alive.
However I do think Azura's and Ryoma's deaths were handled well.

@@librathebeautifulwarmonk1283 There was build-up and foreshadowing to Azura's Birthright death, and there was no avoiding it. I absolutely loved End of All on the Final maps(Birthright especially) because it gave me that "This is it, not all of us may get out alive." Lo and behold, that's what happened. Never thought I'd hear a Final Boss theme that could compete with the Sonic series.
Ryoma's death was handled well imo because there was also no way out for him. Once Corrin won against him, Garon ordered his death, but he refused to die by a Nohrian's hands.
I do wish that Azura was actually singing in Revelation Endgame which helped the mood of even Conquest, despite next to no build-up whatsoever, not just because "Final Boss, play epic music."
Ghast Station did a couple of support science videos on Xander that dissects his character, in both supports and story pretty well.
My favorite line was in part 2 when he said: "How does Xander think any sort of peaceful alliance between Hoshido and Nohr can exist as long as Garon is alive?"
I disagreed with his take on Mokushu, because Kotaro is an evil, scheming politician that wants more and more land, and was responsible for killing Saizo's father and destroying Shura's home kingdom, Kohga.
Shame that the 2 different Xanders are the exact opposite of each other though.
I'm on Revelations right now. Don't worry I'm not spoiling anything at all about the main story. I'm just making a suggestion for the worst paralogue's list if you're making one!

What difficulty are you playing on? And where are you in the main story?
I found this chapter to be very difficult on hard mode, but the best solution was to send a powerful unit (at least paired up with a flier) to Ignatius, or he'd get destroyed by the ninja's before the magic users even reach him. After you secured the village, the rest shouldn't be very difficult.
Shiro's was the worst in my opinion. The dumb meat head gets himself killed. Ignatius gets himself killed sometimes too but to be fair both ignatius and shiro are well worth it. However Mitama's paralogue is shit and she's not good at all.
get a flying unit to go toward Ignatius with Benny, and have someone bait Freeze, then attack the Freezer and use Azura to sing if you need to get that extra boost toward the Freezer.
I raged because I finished the game and my Elise and Benny were only levels 2 and 1 (Promoted into a Malig Knight and a General) respectively. THOSE MASTER NINJAS PISSED ME OFF!!! I only won by using an underleveled Azura and had Kagero and Xander rush in (Kagero is soooo good! Give her a Kagero's Dart (Which makes perfect sense) then let her rip.
Xander doesn't attack you on lunatic mode, on all difficulties, except maybe normal, he starts attacking as soon as you attack him
Sidar Erdem Ryoma doesn't attack back until turn 25
He also starts attacking you if you kill both Laslow and Peri.

Sidar Erdem There is some truth to that, Awakening can be piss easy if you abuse the shit out grinding and second seals, however I find that awakening is a harder game if you DON'T grind or use the second seal system to change classes, or rest unit levels and it actually becomes a rather challenging game, especially if you don't use any of the children.
Hard classic Awakening is piss easy, even without grinding

Chapter 26 Xander actually has lower stats than his chapter 12 appearance. Despite being 13 levels higher his Strength is 5 lower, his Defense is 5 lower and his Resist is 1 lower. His Skill is 4 higher so he has been training but this is important story wise.

It took me three tries to figure out that the white ball was the dragon vein you're supposed to use in the dragon falls :(
Demon falls was probably my 2nd least favorite chapter in birthright (I was gonna say first but you reminded me of Fort dragonfall which we can agree on), but that was because in my experience with it featured very few flying units and constantly camping units near Azura to heal off the lava damage because I was to cheap to use up my staves. At least I now know what the correct dragon veins are for next time to hopefully have a better experience.
Do you think that later on you would do a Top 5 or Top 10 of the new classes in Fates - ie: Butlers, Maligs, Bow-Thieves and the Hoshidan Classes?

Once you do your favorite characters in the entirety of Fates, will you then talk on the paralouges and the child units? I'd love to hear your thoughts on them, as I personally find them to be better than the Awakening kids. Even though it's only slightly.
I don't know when i'll do the paralogue or fates child units videos, but i'll definitely get them done at some point, I just have to get/use all the child units and play all the paralogues. I will say though that I have to disagree with you preferring the fates children to the awakening children, because I think it's the other way around, but hey to each their own.
For chapter 8 perhaps instead of having to slaughter the win tribe it had a condition that you cant be the aggressor when killing an enemy unit thus making it a challenge and fitting into the theme of corrins group not wanting to kill the wind tribe members the cutscene efore
I can't wait to see what you think of the children characters, because I love all of them. Even if their purpose in the game seemed pretty much last-minute, I feel the children are very well-written. Although, the thing with Hisame should've been left out like in the Japanese version. He's alright without the pickle obsession.

The song before you reveil each chapter fits with the theme nicly. A double edged blade. 5 best, 5 worst.
Chapter 25 is actually one of my favourite Birthright chapters. The character moments in this level are very good, especially Takumi’s conversation with Iago before and during the battle, proving even more why he’s my Birthright husband and Sakura kicking Iago in balls. As for the ‘annoying’ respawning units, they always start at the bottom of the map, so I always just keep tanks and powerhouses like Ryoma, Oboro and Rinkah and pair them up with some others defensively. And send the others forward to take care of the enemies on the top. So It’s actually pretty fun. Couldn’t agree with you more on the other chapters though.
I very much agree with your #1 worst pick. i just stopped playing Fire Emblem altogether (for over a year) once i reached Fort Dragonfall in my 2nd playthrough. It wasn't until i saw a few of your videos that i decided to get back into Fire Emblem.
I actually almost burst out crying when BlazingKnight showed the chapter Elise died in even tho I've never watched a birthright play through I've only watched play throughs of conquest and Revelation man I got so attached to Elise in chapter 14 of Revelation she was so cute same thing applied for the chapter of Revelation with Sakura in it matter of fact I might watch those chapters again shortly

I feel like that was a pretty good joke in the #5 best intro but you didn't have to meticulously explain exactly why we thought it was Garon's boss chapter
I know Elise's death was sad, but I believe Floras death was way worse. She set herself on fire right in front of her own sister, that's pretty sad.

a little surprised that the endgame of birthright was not on any of the lists since I don't think that anyone liked the "can't save between previous chapter and endgame."
No mention of Chapter 18: Leo? it has respawning faceless that appear on turn 0, poisonous land and it can be beaten in one turn

I find I disagree with you on a lot of things, but I quite like that because I like it that there aren't really any universally poor fire emblem characters and maps. All of them can get some love and find their potential with the right player :)
That's the reason we love fire emblem so much, everyone views/plays it different and everyone will have different things like/don't like.
5:30 same. Same. I cried my EYES out like three times in the space of the before and after the map of that chapter.
However, with your choices, I liked most of the chapters you said you didn't like, and chapter 11 was the first chapter I lost a unit on in classic (normal difficulty). I also found the chapter with climbing the mountain incredibly tedious, but my LEAST favourite chapter was chapter 10 (Ninja Village), because it was so, SO boring to move units across the spikes.
Also, I didn't really appreciate the Conquest spoilers, which you didn't warn for.
I played Birthright without grinding till chapter 12.
Maybe that's the reason why I like chapter 11.
It was challenging but not impossible.
The enemies kept coming and I couldn't take everyone out in time.
I had to make some sick moves to keep everyone alive and I actually managed to beat it in one try.
I had to give up with the no grinding thing, because the enemies in chapter 12 destroyed me.
Funny story from my first Birthright playthrough. When I finally got to Xander, I was expecting him to utterly wreck me, but I figured I'd use the first turn to get a hit or two in. I ended up getting a crit and killing him in one shot, which ended the chapter for me on the first turn...merely seconds after the chapter officially started. XP
I'm gonna say it: I finished chapter 25 in three turns on accident. One of the units next to Iago had entrap, so he teleported the avatar, and I ended up killing Iago when he engaged me (I had maximum skill and strength, plus a ranged sword and astra, which activated and annihilated him).
Missed the S-rank weapons in the chests, though.
I’m not sure if Xander was easy from a lore perspective. Supposedly, despite his initial assertion otherwise, Elise’s death at his hand shook him deeply, so much so that he effectively lost the will to live.

I really enjoyed Chapters 7, 12, 13, 16 and 26. They make you race for treasure, provide a good challenge (on Lunatic) and don't overstay their welcome. Chapters 23 & onwards would've been great too if only the reinforcement quantities weren't so ridiculous (Chapter 24's reinforcements don't stop until TURN 20! That level took me 4 HOURS to beat!).
I hated the faceless map (for the same reasons in this video) and detested the lava land hell map

There's actually a perfectly good reason why fighting Xander is so easy; it's revealed after the battle that he was holding back
Demon Falls was the worst. You forgot to mention 2 little details about what happens if you pick wrong and create lava:
1) It causes tons of enemies to respawn
2) It slows your movement down to a crawl!!
Two things you hate hate hate about other chapters, but they get a free pass here?
I do agree that Fort Dragonfall was a pathetic chapter. The Faceless are not only repetitive, they're so weak they couldn't even damage Rinkah (and I did not grind for levels beforehand), meaning I wasn't fighting enemies, I was fighting harmless bags of EXP.
Some how I wish I start playing Birthright before Conquest, oh well I guess I have to see what Revelation have in store.

I actually hated Chapter 21 because if you don't know the trick with the statues (like me my first time through), or had RNG cursed units (again, like me), the map's entire gimmick boils down to 3 50% chance guesses in a row, and need I remind that this is Fire Emblem? The only reason I beat that Chapter was because I paired Saizo with Hinoka and had her take him to the boss so he could kill it.
Xander, a character I would despise if he wasn't so amazing in Conquest. Kills his sister, nah, I'ma still gonna kill you.

I don't think birthright is a bad fire emblem game, in fact as a game it's great, I just didn't think it was spectacular or anything special, especially compared to conquest.
seeing hana repeatedly rekt everything is enough fuel for me to get past endlessly repawning units.
Now I do like your countdowns but sometimes the music choice is weird. Like in number 3 of your favorite it has a sad moment where one of the main character dies but for the music you put in the promotion theme? That's like putting soothing music in the most epic of wars. Oh and did you know that Number 2 of your favorites you can get Arthur and Ephie as a green unit if you talk to them with corrin?

Chapter 20 is also a incredible easy chapter to broken if you has a Malig Knight
Chapter 23 was the bane of my existence on LunaClassic
My favorites were 14 and 12. Also, Lunatic mode makes Chapter 22 much less empty.
