Well I feel now's the time to get this Fire Emblem Fates marathon started, and since I have just beaten Conquest, I feel the best way to start is to talk about my top 10 characters from Nohr.

I swear Wolfssengers are some of the best units you can get.
weaf Very true. The beast units are very good at what they do. Wolfskin are great physical tanks and deal physical damage in spades, while Kitsune are almost untouchable, have great magical defences and trigger skills like nothing.

If Camilla wasn't one of the best Units in combat I wouldn't have just put her on the bench, I would have buried her under it.
I don't buy into the argument that oversexualised characters can't also be good and have deep personalities (because why wouldn't they) but I don't see how you could refer to her as such.
During best moments she just annoyed me, in her worst moments she made my skin crawl and I can't help but think they let a thirsty 16 year old weeaboo write and design her.

Sarah I like conquest for how it smashes cruel reality into his/her naive face
Nohr guys are awesome. It's like you said, "do not let the appearances deceive you". Xander seemed like a serious and rather ruthless prince in the trailers, but he has a really soft side and cares about his familly. He is my main dude with Speedtaker.
And Nyx, Charlotte, Leo, Niles...they have all this hidden depth. The sweet, sweet Elise. I swear, don't give me a chapter to point a sword against her! That beast Camilla rocks and destroy every foe! Arthur is crazy awesome too, but mine turned not that good on the field.
I don't even want to play Birthright anymore! Don't want to fight the dark kingdom and kill off or maim the guys and gals I love so much. Still have to do it though, because I got the special edition as present...but I already feel like I will not like Hoshido as much.
I'm glad you like so much Nohr but don't let that affect your opinion of Hoshido too much. I know it's not easy to fight against the character you've grown to love but that's the entire point of fates, you're meant to experience both sides of the story and fight both for and against each side in order to show that no side is either right or wrong at the end of the day, and how you have to live with the choices you make but keep on fighting regardless.
When you kept saying appearances can be deceiving, i thought you were going to lead into Forrest, who is one of my favorites and one of my strongest in Revelation.

It wasn't too difficult of a choice because based on the first six chapters of the game, I had no feelings or emotional ties to hoshido, at least with nohr I got the chance to get to know each of the siblings and see them interact with each other, hoshido was like, 'we're your really family... now pick a side!'
I felt a little bit bad because of what had just happened with Mikoto

It's the Japanese word for Wind.
His Japanese name, "Suzukaze" means refreshing breeze, which is basically Suzukaze's personality.
Tbh, Benny is a better knight because of his insane defense. I had Benny at 45 Defense in one playthrough, and he still wasn't maxed out in defense
Effie and Benny are opposites. Effie is stronger while Benny is more defensive.
Effie is different from traditional knights, she has lower (but still high) defense and Benny has stellar defense and HP with lower Attack
Benny is only better than effie in being a pure physical wall. Otherwise, effie can do the same and many more things

And Effie isn't...? Oh, wait - I forgot that the localisation tried to make her more "tough" (or is that just the voice), as opposed to her more traditionally feminine personality in the original Japanese version... Granted, even with that I did like Benny more, too... problem is, he comes later on in the route where you CAN. NOT. GRIND. Which makes it difficult to make the choice of investing in him, since one has probably already made the choice to have Effie as their knight/general of the party until the endgame.
Benny fares better in 'Revelation', where he comes the same chapter as Effie does AND you can grind; so he is thus a more viable option as a unit on the battlefield, where you get more time to make use of his strengths. Not to mention getting more time with him as a character as a result.
Here's hoping that Setsuna makes it into the Birthright list.

After you play Revelations, you may not be as fond of Effie.
I personally like the birthright characters better then the conquest characters. Might be japanese pride, but yeah. Heck, that's why I chose to play birthright first anyways.
Note: It's not just that I like the Hoshido characters better (which I still do), but I just really don't like the Bohr characters.

Haven't gotten Birthright yet(still need to beat Conquest, Chapter 19). I'm gonna feel like a total douchebag when I'm playing Birthright , aren't I (and my heart is gonna have a hard time too, isn't it)?
Both games made me cry at multiple points. I think you know which parts.

I just feel so sorry when the other characters disrespect her so.. Yeah. No regrets.
Peri threated to kill her in their support and......well, let's just say I tempted to ask Beruka if she was willing to take on a new contract if something happened to Felicia...(because I married Felicia long before I saw that support)...
Keaton and Effie are definitely my favorite non-royal, non-Awakening, and non-child units. Mainly because they caused two of my personal favorite badass gameplay moments (excluding all moments where Ophelia activates a skill and then gets a crit on top of that) to occur.
For Keaton, it came from the entirety of Chapter 19, where the furry Incredible Hulk was the only unit to survive the onslaught (thank god for Casual Mode) thanks to Beastbane and Better Odds.
For Effie, it was towards the end of Chapter 21, where all the other units escaped but circumstances force Effie between Faceless and certain death. So the final stretch of Chapter 21 was Effie making what was essentially a last stand (and probably would've been an actual last stand if I wasn't playing Casual), fighting off waves of Faceless before going down.
I think you should play the Hidden Truths DLC
Yeah, the retainers aren't LIKE Severa, Owain, or Inigo. They ARE them.
Not until he finishes Revelations. Hidden Truths spoils Revelations' story.

I left Effie in the dust after Benny's chapter, and for good reason. Strength may be an admirable quality in Generals, but their high defenses are their real defining characteristic. He's a wall if I've ever seen one, with unparalleled defense and HP as well as decent enough strength to get the job done. Heck, give him a Hexlock Spear and he'll be able to decimate magic users.
For Birthright characters, while not all as great as Conquest's, I'm willing to bet that Crash will like a certain few. Especially one who's name rhymes with Assama.
And sadly, while Ryoma isn't as great of a character as Xander, but in battle....AAHHAHAHAASTRAAHAHAHA.
Let's just say that Ryoma is quite SKILLful.

In terms of growth and character, I believe that Takumi is probably one of the best characters if not the best character and royal in the games
fesdes95 True. People give Tacomeat a lot of shit, since he doesn't immediately worship the Avatar like everyone else. Even though it makes perfect sense that he doesn't trust them.
And in battle, God, Takumi might be the best damn sniper in the series.
Dude, in game, both as an ally and an enemy, I always found Ryoma to be FAR stronger and tougher than Xander.

so, i love Benny, at first i thought 3 was going to be Benny, but my hopes were shattered; of course, he isn't my favorite character, but the reason he's really close is because in Revelation (Spoilers, by the way, stop reading if you haven't finished) in Chapter 24 'Days Lost' I had about 10 party members left when i had gotten to the final set of doors and like an idiot i open up the door my mother told me to and everyone was left with 1 hp, and the doors open to reveal TONS of enemies, followed by my stupid decision to open the other door where my mother and her guards were waiting, not only that, but some of my units had already finished their turn when i opened the doors, 4 of my best were left standing, while Benny, 2 healers and a few mages and archers were still allowed to move, so i have the healers, Hinoka, and Sakura heal Benny to only about 20 hp since they only had wane festals left, everyone is killed, except for Benny who is left with 11 hp after being damaged, he kills EVERYTHING that hurt him and the enemies left can't even damage Benny, he completes the chapter on his own basically against around 12 enemies who were left, it was amazing, to say the least, also im sorry for the long comment

Holy shit, those two are awesome, especially Xander. The only other FE character who had me fanboy as much as I did for Xander was Ephiram
Keaton low skill!?! Mine maxed out his skill stat and luck stats and got crits like crazy and bad res seriously mine had 27 res like seriously he gets sol and is a OP tank. Seriously Keaton is OP for being Immoratal with insane def and good res as well as powerful attacks to back it up therefore full healing with sol.
Keaton is the best. He was my husband.

I know it's an older video, but I've watched it several times. I just wanted to say it's nice to meet another who finds Camilla interesting. I find Xander interesting too, but I've taken a bit of heat for liking Camilla or at least for saying how interesting I find her. They both have interesting backstories and characters, and I really enjoy exploring them, especially Camilla's; must be the writer in me. I mean, I didn't have a fair opinion of Camilla at first, but after learning more about her, she really became a favorite of mine.
Well, the good news about Elise is that you only get the chance to fight her once in Birthright, and it's completely optional. ^^

#10: I like this character too, even though she has a bad habit of dying really easily. I just really like how she's both fast and powerful. #9: Heh, this guy is hilarious. Also, Wolfskins are amazing, since Beaststones actually fix their mediocre speed and skill. #8: A useful lock-picking unit, plus his supports are pretty solid. #7: Yeah, I was also surprised by how likable she was, plus her passive skill is one of my favorites. #6: One of my favorites to use on the battlefield. Her crit rates are so high it's hysterical, especially if you give her Death Blow. Also, STICK DAT ASS OUT! #5: Adorable. Also an amazing healer. #4: I do wish his speed wasn't shit (it caps REALLY low compared to other mages), but otherwise he's pretty great. #3: Yeah, baby! Hits like a truck and tanks hits too, and her passive just makes her even better. #2: Again, he has problems with speed, but his defense is through the roof to the point some enemies can't do shit to him. #1: Easily one of my favorites. Useful in nearly every situation, plus I love her character and supports. And even if you ignore that, you can still love her for the tits!

I'm one of the few that like Nyx. I made her a Witch.
For Elise it is simple to get her at level 20.
You go to the first visited castle and you attack Selkie.
Then you put Elise behind your first unit.
You end your turn and with Selkie's personal skills your unit will lose 5 hp.
You heal your first unit with Elise and Elise will get XP.
Do this whole thing again to put your Elise level 20.
It work with all healers
Man I love good ol Keaton, he was my first husband in any of my games and I honestly started crying when I had to kill him in birthright, he was only trying to protect his friends ; - ; and he was gonna let you through until his friend dies.

The thing that I hate about Camilla and why she is my least favourite royal family member of both royal families, is because of her story text. Litterally everything she says was: ''Oh, my dear sweet corrin'' ''Oh, I don't feel as strongly as the others, but someone who hurts my dear corrin most certaintly deserves death''

I love Camilla as a unit and while her personality is built around Corrin and fan service I still found her reliable and interesting and not just cause boobs
Sure, she is good in gameplay, but she is still my least favourite (Yes, I also count Azura as a royal)

Yeah, I don't like her very much. My 3 favourite royals are Azura, Takumi and Sakura
Azura: Her design is amazing, her story role was amazing, everything about her is amazing
Takumi: May be a dick at first, but can be really nice once he opens up to you. He also wants to be a family and is way better in both story and gameplay. (broken as hell archer)
Sakura is just really cute and amazing, and a great healer

As so far I understand the conflict between the *Hoshido* and its rival the *Nohr* is nothing but stupid as the Nohr envied Hoshido's bountiful lands because they benefits from fair, sunny weather, resulting in plentiful food supplies, to the point where there is more than enough to feed the combined populations of both Hoshido and Nohr while Nohr suffers from unusually poor weather conditions and contrary to popular belief, the sun does occasionally shine over Nohr, but most of the time the skies are deeply overcast and stormy, and the lack of sunlight fosters a tundra-like climate where only the hardiest plants can grow, resulting in continually poor crop yields and frequent food shortages.
King Garon offered to meet King Sumeragi in Cheve, ostensibly to resolve the differences between their two nations. Sumeragi brought the child with him to the negotiations. Garon ambushed and killed Sumeragi, then abducted the defenseless child to be raised among the Nohrian royals. In retaliation, Hoshidan ninjas kidnapped the Nohrian princess Azura, daughter of Garon's second wife Arete, who hailed from Valla. So that mean the Nohr are the villains since they one who started everything in the first place.
well, thats's sort of what they want you to think. That's the point that King Garon is evil and wants to take Hoshido, not for it's resources, but just for the heck of it as it seems.
While that is the plot of both Conquest and Birthright, Revelation expands on that, explaining why Garon is power-hungry to the point of going insane.

Slower. I have never used Arthur personally, but I can see him being good. The reason why i have never used Fighters is because of their History, that and he was SO SLOW early on.
Acsilverfish360 Oh yeah, Arthur's pretty "meh" statwise, but this list is like 80% personality.
Arthur benefits from being literally any class but fighter. The DLC class Vanguard is perfect for him.
Xander is easily my fav in Fates
He's is Ideal King Characters and that makes him awesome

Like Mj said, It's called "an opinion", just cause you hate how a character was written, does not mean others have to share the same opinion, hell I learned to not listen to Bias doubters who talk about "bad writing" without seeing it for myself, It's funny how the all the characters minus Laslow on your little list are characters I actually like myself both gameplay and character wise, What your doing is "PRESUMING" for Crash AFTER HE JUST STATED HE BEAT THE GAME ALREADY. It's funny that for all the hate I'm seeing for Fates their are still people like Crash and myself who actually give the game a chance and yeah their were a lot of plot hole to make swiss cheese of the story especially Conquest, but it's "average" at best compared to previous FE stories well in my opinion anyway, Birthright was basic for a FE story, no risk but then no better payoff unlike the gamecube/wii FE's hell even the FE GBA ones were superior to Birthright story, but it was still enjoyable for what it was same with Conquest and especially Revelations which I felt was poorer then Conquest story till after you Xander and Leo join up where it starts to improve a bit. Honestly the more loved characters are the OP are easily manageable characters, and sad thing with Peri, people just mad that Treehouse actually didn't Henry her like they did Henry in the English Port of Awakening and played her straight, oh well it's Mj "opinion" after all and I can "respect that.Plus Effie is the Gatrie to Benny's Brom, Hipster
I personally found the Conquest characters more entertaining than the Birthright ones, though Birthright has a couple of really awesome ones.

I had to try conquest five separate times before I finally beat it. As for character opinions...10. I could never really use Nyx to her full potential. Shame, because her supports (or what little I did of them) sounded interesting. Would've been nice to get her married to someone.9. I love Keaton! He was the first unit I had marry my avatar unit. :D8. A teasing little jerk, but I was surprisingly happy to have him marry Mozu.7. Oh, Peri... Interesting personality, but pretty weak in my playthrough. Her S support with Keaton was amusing though. XD6. Dang! Charlotte was one of my worst units! It left a bad taste in my mouth. DX5. Aw, Elise is adorable. She's a great healer, and I loved giving her S support with Jakob. :34. Leo is AMAZING! One of my best units, too! ... But kinda scary to face in Birthright... ^^;3. Lol. She's always hungry... XD2 and 1. Pity you couldn't choose one over the other, but understandable. Both are amazing units. I think I like Xander a little more than Camilla, but they were both amazing in my playthroughs. (I'm dreading my fight with Xander in Birthright...)
Apparantly my avatar had a beastiality thing going on, because I had Keaton marry my avatar in Conquest and Kaden in Birthright. They came into my group at a pretty similar time when I was still looking for an enjoyable partner. As I'm an Aussie (I SHARE YOUR PAIN, Crash) I don't get Revelations until the 10th, so I'll probably pick someone else for my avatar during that playthough. (Also, PSA, on Conquest, pass Draconic Hex to your Avatar's children. It is ridiculously good, and it can trivialise many bosses).

Camilla is my least favourite Nohrian Sibling. Hard to choose my favourite though. Leo is awesome. Loved his conversations with Odin and Niles in the Beach Brawl DLC and just his personality as a whole. Xander seems unaproachable and cold but actually is a really gentle and loving big brother. And Elise is just fricking adorable and sweet. She is probably my favourite female character in the whole game. I loved Birthright but I hated it for Chapter 27. Why? T.T

Yo Crash, speaking of Fates, there is one thing that still bothers me about the story; we never learn why the curse on Valla was even put in place. For the sake of the plot, I can see why the writers didn't want Corrin to be able to say anything about it to anyone, but we're never given a narrative reason as to why this curse was put into affect. Did one of the former kings put it in place? Did someone else? We never learn anything about WHY the curse exists. It wouldn't bother me so much if the entire plot of the game didn't hinge around this detail that is never explained. If the curse didn't exist, Azura would have been able to spill her guts out about this to both kingdoms and could have possibly avoided the war that takes place. But since it exists, I would have appreciated details as to who put it there and why. Also, I have beaten all three stories, and it is not fleshed out in any of the three games. It really reeks of the writers throwing in a lazy plot device to drive the conflict.
wait, what about revelation? don't they explain that I that route? I've played almost all of revelation, but stopped before finishing and I haven't gone back to finish it yet. But I know enough to think that neither conquest nor birthright routes were even necessary. XD
More like the writers wanting to give the characters a reason to team up at all, thus creating an alternate path to siding with one or the other (and an enemy to fight); but you're not wrong, even if I have my own theories about the matter...
That aside, please try to NOT throw out spoilers so casually here - I'm not sure CRASH is fully caught-up with the story at this interval, but even if he is there are other people who have tried very, VERY hard to avoid spoilers until they can play the game, and it didn't come out in Europe/Australia until late May this year. I'm not one of those people (too impatient), but I respect the right of people to not be spoiled so they can experience the story first-hand... if you want to discuss the plot in greater detail, there are forums (and Personal Messages) for that.

Revelation does NOT explain anything about the curse. And all the Hidden Truths DLC does is explain why the three Awakening characters are there.

Sorry for that. Though I don't think it will bother Crash all that much, as he said that he has seen the fan translation of the game. Even if he didn't, the existence of a third kingdom wouldn't be hidden from him, as you have a chapter in Conquest that takes place in that Kingdom. All I spoiled was the name of the place.
Again, this wouldn't bother me as much if the entire premise of Fates didn't hinge around this solitary curse that is never explored further, which is weird since Fire Emblem has been known to be rather text heavy. I mean, having an important plot device that is never explained because fuck you is something I would expect to see in a Kingdom Hearts game........actually they seem to retcon important plot devices with each new game, but the point I'm trying to make is that I expect better from the Fire Emblem series.
