surprisingly, its actually legit

Exactly
Thats what im saying
good lord that last kill was insane, goated music choices
Appreciate it!
the kill at 13:15 was majestic
That Yak141 trickshot was mad
Idk missile fly, missile hit, I get neuron activation
Fr lol
Pretty much it
I get even more neurons activated when the 9M hits even when they spam flare (rare since most people at top tier know how to flare propperly)
Average aim9B gameplay
13:17 that kill alone deserves at the very least a like!
How missiles actually work: Fire missile, pray it doesn't go limp on you, get a crit, get killstolen (please for the love of god I hope the new reward changes come soon)
Also, Yak-141 footage, very happy
That shit at the end straight out of anime
So thats how the missle knows where it is at all times.
Because it knows where it isn't
@@GeneralLee2000 By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is, whichever is greater, it obtains a difference or deviation

Disgusting 😶
The easiest way to explain is basically that the missile knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't. By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference or deviation. The guidance subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the missile from a position where it is to a position where it isn't. Arriving at a position that it wasn't, it now is. Consequently, the position where it is is now the position that it wasn't, and it follows that the position that it was is now the position that it isn't. In the event that the position that it is in is not the position that it wasn't, the system has acquired a variation, the variation being the difference between where the missile is and where it wasn't. If variation is considered to be a significant factor, it too may be corrected by the GEA. However, the missile must also know where it was. The missile guidance computer scenario works as follows: because a variation has modified some of the information the missile has obtained, it is not sure where it is. However, it is sure where it isn't, within reason, and it knows where it was. It now subtracts where it should be from where it wasn't, or vice versa. And by differentiating this from the algebraic sum of where it shouldn't be, and where it was, it is able to obtain the deviation and its variation, which is called error.
Technically speaking the Phoenix isn't the only Missle that utulises lofting ingame rn.
The Mavericks had that added some patches ago to enable players to fire them from further away
If you’re gonna include agms, there’s more than just Mavericks…
I always wondered if the insane tracking performance of the TY-90 is because it somehow has better drag/fin values than comparable helicopter AAMs, or if it's something else like the seeker's track rate. Those things honestly feel like they're pulling at least 25-30Gs despite the statcard value of 20. I wish there was a way to somehow pull telemetry data from the game in real time and display it, would certainly be cool to do some field testing with real time data being displayed
It has much better fin performance, trackrate wouldn't really help it.
Good video, appreciate you showing the actual numbers from the files.
Yeah, glad to help!
The FIM-92E/K and ATAS also use suspension IRCCM as well, and I believe the Mistral has gate width.
Lee: makes missile video
Everybody else: Yak-141 trickshot (wojak pointing)
This is actually so true
Dayum that last clip in the yak 141 was insane
Me playing since beta & got all US/USSR vehicles. I thought you're a typical US main, salute from Egypt bro... superb educative content.

My god that last kill was insane. I've seen some impressive maneuvers but that was just on another level.
That kill at the end was the coolest gun kills I've ever saw

Bro that shot at the end was nasty
missiles! ya love to see them! except when they're coming towards you lol
also thats a nice outro you got there :D
Appreciate it :)
Honestly while both gatewidth and suspension IRCCM are annoying... I dread the arrival of multi-spectral or direct imaging seekers. 'Oh, you did everything right? Too bad, you're using old flares, so this thing just ignores them outright.'
Casually puts the craziest trick shot at the end of the video.
I didn’t even know a plane could flip around as fast as that Yak
learned so much from this video im gonna check out if you have others like this (sick yak141 kill btw)
I wish they put some of these important info on the missile stat card instead of it technically being able to shoot someone from far away that not achoevable in game
The missile knows where it is because it knows where it isn't by subtracting from where it is from where it isn't it gets an deviation
(Basically uses complex math to find where the target is and where it will be)
Hi! I'm really glad that I found your work and it's really helpful, but is there's any complete guides about missile parameters? Or at least pointer for a file (on github) where missile flight simulation code is? I'm trying to develop tactics for BVR and airburst rockets, but I need to simulate their flight path outside the game, to avoid huge loss in time for live tests.
daaaaaaaamn, at 13:15 you showed him a little trick you learned
True...
Probably needed this with the upstart in sparrow complaints again
Casual places the most insane yak 141 shot I’ve ever seen at the end of the video and proceeds to say nothing about it 😂😂
The missile knows where it is at all times
nah man that last kill was dirty af
Ace Combat killed that Mig-23 at the end.
Think you'll do any videos on Italian planes anytime soon?
13:14 bro that shot was insane if I was the mig23 I would punch my screen
Bro thought we’d ignore that last kill
It is funny when my radar tracks the chaff but the missile still hits my original target. The missile knows where it is at, at all times.
What do the numbers look like for missiles targeting missiles? I feel like the best flare to decoy a missile is another missile and I've had so many easy, non-flaring targets survive because they randomly shot a missile.
Lee doing some of that pilot shit.
Doesnt the AAM-3 also have a stinger seeker, but its been bugged since release? (I could be misinformed)
What user mission does he use to test missiles?
9:56:
Speed difference? Between what, the target and the chaff, target and the missiles, target and the target locked on the aircraft radar?
With a SARH it's the speed difference relative to the launching aircraft iirc, as it adds its momentum onto the radar waves. Active missiles it's relative to the missile itself as the radar is mounted to the missile.
@@GeneralLee2000 thank you, this video had been very informative. I’ve never had the chance to touch sparrows, given I’ve dumped my time to finishing the last of the entire Russian air and ground tech trees recently.
13:13 my dude, stop hacking WTF was that shot XDDDD
So long as you can line it up with where he's going it's not impossible.
Apparently P-51 pilots did it in WW2 too (look up Col.Candelaria P-51 Mustang maneuver here on RUclips), I've done it in IL-2 for a few years.
and why sometimes msl just wont turn on? Like it just blink and nothing?
havent played in a few years but that missile kill deserves free ges from the thunder show, do they even still do that?
I Was Going to Lose It If You Played the "Missile Knows Where It Is" Meme at the Start of the Video.
Lmao yeah, it got kinda old
Tbh I have more success defeating R-73 than aim-9M. I've tried the flare flower method, as well as pulling super hard and it always still seems to catch up to me.
What’s hilarious to me is that Gaijin pretends to care so much about historical accuracy, like when Gaijin devs were convinced that the R-73 had better IRCCM than the AIM-9M.
And then Gaijin turns around and makes the R-27R and ER harder to notch than the AIM-7 despite already having datalink and just being a better missile overall. Like… no. The R-27ER has like a 5% success rate lmao
But muh sekrit dokuments
The game director is russian main
I wonder how theyll model a dual stage motor like the R-77M
That's a great question lol
Pretty cool how the community experimented to interpret values and variables in missile code in order to gain a decent understanding of them, and even now there are still variables whose true purpose we don't know or are simply conflicted about
I like Gaijin keeping their lips sealed when it comes to this kind of stuff because it makes it infinitely more interesting and fun
It really is
could you touch the topic of Top Tier sim battles? I see R-77ER dunking on people that are skimming the ground
I've done that with sparrows too. Thing is, if the missile comes from high above, close to 90 degrees, multipathing doesn't mean that much. I.e. the missile is still aiming at the ground below the actual plane but because it comes from above it doesn't matter
The missile knows...
Since you didn't hit the ground in the last clip, I take it you recovered, got 3 more kills, and then flew back to base to repair and rearm right?
YEEEEEES of course
Idk what’s been happening recently, but the Aim-7s in the F-15 and in the F-4S keep going straight down to the ground when I radar lock and fire the missile… I don’t understand it😭This just started like a week ago and I just stopped carrying radar missiles all together because of it
Yep, should be fixed when fox 3 comes out but it’s still annoying for the time being
That's probably because when you launch them, they are pointed to the ground/there's a hill between you and the target. Try to point sparrows upwards a bit before launching
54c is also supposed to be smokeless isnt it?
Bit complicated, there were technically 3 different motors for the 54C. The one we have produces the most thrust, smokeless would have less. There's another one which has higher thrust force but lower burn time and overall less thrust.
bruh the 13:10 shot casually
Why has the R27 no lofting?
Ask the soviets. The EA did iirc if we ever get that.
If you want to learn radar and missiles just watch timsvariety he does very in depth explanations and it’s very clear
bro, wtf was that last yak kill, never saw something like that before.
Edit: This is pretty much off topic, feel free to ignore
I'm still a bit annoyed over the AAM-3...
Not exactly because of how it performs now, but rather because Gaijin didn't mention that it is much morw advanced in nearly every aspect IRL.
Japanese missiles are pretty obscure and most players don't known anything about them past in game performance, so they genuinely believe it's pretty much just a 9M.
Meanwhile the actual missile has a combined IR/UV seeker, independant search function, and BTT steering, allowing for constant optimal G loading. This would mean ±55G loads, that are in line with various statements of excellent maneuverability and HOB performance.
I do believe Gaijin knows this and the current missile is a placeholder, but it would've been nice if they had stated that too. I feel like Gaijin nowdays prefers their status of a "realistic" game (to compare themselves to competitors), over actually providing accurate information.
Ah yes, the famous ultra violet seeker, with ultra violet tracking... clueless.
@@TheDAWinz UV fuctions as a further way to distinguish the target especially from flares. While tracking is mainly performed through the IR band, the UV sensor can recognize UV light emitted by the engine, as well as reflections of UV light of the sun. Meanwhile flares don't have any meaningful UV image, and are thus able to be filtered out by such a seeker.
These types of seekers are most famously used on the FIM-92 Stinger missile (model B onwards)
@@mauswaffe Brother, what? You do know that AAM-3 report was complete and utter nonsense right? Misinterpreted at best, and purposely misinfo at worse. In the F-4EJ Kai cockpit there's a switch to switch between IR and UV and when its UV it's immune to flares!!! Clueless. And the Stingers are psuedo-imaging/imaging with plane array seekers...
@@mauswaffe That's not how UV tracking works first of all, it knows where the target is because the UV isn't there, flares don't block out UV, but aircraft do. It doesn't see UV from the engine it sees that the plane blocks out the UV and goes there. Secondly, FIM-92 is psuedo-imaging, not a UV seeker.
@@TheDAWinz You are correct, yes. The UV band does not pick up UV light specifically, but rather (similar to IR) contrast. I did get this mixed up, saying the aircraft would emit UV light, while that is, as you said, not true.
However it does block UV light, while flares are insufficient of hiding this stark contrast in the UV band. Thus, when the IR seeker on its own would lose track, it can rely on secondary UV band recognition of the target.
Pseudo imaging also does not cancel out the dual channel seeker, as it only refers to the seekers rosette scan, and specifically filtering of unwanted objects present in the seekers FOV by computing a two dimensional "image" of the seekers imput. It is perfectly possible for both of these functions to be present in a missile.
afaik R-27ER lofts too
You can also manually loft sparrows like a pro

Indeed!
Hey Lee, I know this is a bit of a stretch seeing as im a small creator but i was actually hoping that we could collab one day?
You know, for all the justifiable reasons you can criticize gaijin they dont often get enough credit for the amount of effort they put into their systems. There are obviously some huge nerds at gaijin who really do try their best working against the limitations of the game and the issues with their release schedule and volume of vehicles.

Heya wassup?
Shame my R73s don't work 99% of the time
Can you explain in a dumber way why a radar missiles will still track a target when locked in to chaff please, thanks!
Ok. The radar looks at an area of the sky, not the pinpoint area where your lock is. CW missiles look for speed difference. The plane is still being illuminated by the radar even if it's not being directly locked, and is coming towards you quickly. Make sense?
