Magic of nostalgia. I loved this movie so much when I was a kid. I saw it many times, on television. Thank you so much for allowing us to be a kid again.
This movie came out at a very magical time in movie history. It was one of many classic special effects extravaganzas that plastered those GIANT screens in HUGE movie theaters across the nation. It was always on a Sunday when we went to see such classics as The seventh voyage of Sinbad, The Mysterious Island, The Magic Sword, Jack the Giant Killer, Jason and the Argonauts, all the great Ray Harryhausen classics like Earth vs. Flying Saucers and many, many more.
I'm not from the same time (I'm 18 now) as most of the comments, but this was one of the first magic fantasy movies I ever saw as a young kid back when I was 4, I still have the dvd around the house somewhere. It's amazing to see this full masterpiece on the biggest social media site to introduce to newer generations

So many films made to entertain children, have been more entertaining than films made only for profit. Of course we show (the kids) that the world is frequently a dangerous place. That is a moral which doesn't need any particular religious background. 'Kids, it is not always safe for you out there!' Please Take Care. But that also does not mean that you cannot have fun.
I remember seeing this in the early 70's at a Sunday matinee in a local neighborhood movie house (they still had them back then) and always watched it whenever it came on TV. Definitely a guilty pleasure as an adult.
Me too, I saw it in the early 70's in a latin american country when growing up. I particularly remember the final scene when the sorceress removes the ring from the wizard's finger.
I watched this film as a child in 1963. I was 9 years old. It was a Friday. I found it dreadful! As a result, I spent a week having nightmares, when I was able to sleep. Kind of fun/saw it on its original release. A couple of things that worked---the moving eye in the stone gargoyle (very very brief but eerie), and Anne Helm pounding on the door which in a blink becomes Basil Rathbone (simple trick edit/not an effect per se, but...effect-TIVE!). The dragon is quite impressive, but at the same time a huge disappointment in that the production team (under Bert Gordon, who should've known better/tried harder) didn't see fit to provide movement of the mouths. Unless the mechanism just broke before they started shooting, there had to be at least a couple of simple ways to at least "puppet it" from off-screen for a few close-up shots. Gordon provided a lot of Saturday Matinee low-budget fun in the latter 50's/early60's, but his direction in this one---a bigger budget than his usual (tho still low) is a study in missed opportunities. Very nondescript, which is surprising given all the props and the nature of the film. Anyway, just my thots after not seeing this for decades

So a bunch of people thought I took things badly on this stream, and I thought I'd take the opportunity to explain, now that I've put my daughter to bed for the night. I wasn't angry, I wasn't offended, and I didn't take anything personally. I live by a very strict moral code, and I've made a commitment to the other members of my group to strive to be an example at all times. If that makes me come off as a jerk in some people's eyes, so be it. In our set of principles, thoughts, feelings, and even beliefs are fairly irrelevant. What matters are actions: what you're willing to do, and not do, with the goal always foremost of making the world a better place. We can't always foresee whether our actions will have positive outcomes, but good intentions don't really matter. Even if you thought you were doing the right thing, if it turns out badly, you bear just as much responsibility as you would if you had bad intentions. This is in stark contrast to "traditional" Paulinist Christianity, where what's "in your heart" is what matters, and forgiveness is as easy as asking for it. Our creed requires an explicit explanation and justification for these actions, and that's all I asked for, but did not receive. I did not seek to impose the most important part of our approach, which requires that every effort be taken to make amends and repair the damage done. I don't expect others to live by my code. I know this all may seem oddly rigid and even hypocritical coming from someone who says the outrageous sorts of things I do, but again, in my creed words only matter insofar as they precipitate actions. I can never truly know or judge what's in someone's heart or mind, but I can often see very clearly where their actions have led. If you pay close attention to some of the "edgier" things I say, you might notice that they are usually intended to provoke thoughts that may lead to positive actions in others. I flirt like crazy, but I've found that such talk makes a lot of ladies feel better about themselves, which often produces a positive attitude that might also lead to positive action. When I make narcissist comments about myself in that context, it's because none of you can see me, and everyone, deep down, feels more attractive when an attractive person is attracted to them (not that they aren't true, mind you 😉). When I make comments that might seem narcissistic outside of flirtation, it is usually intended to show that I have done things that others can achieve, as well. If anyone has a problem with any of this, I not only invite, but actively encourage whatever criticism you might offer. But don't expect me to agree. I will evaluate what you say as fairly as I can, and I'm very thick skinned, so don't worry about offending me. I think the core of this group of people are the finest I've found on RUclips, though there are couple I find a little dubious.😉 I enjoy the humor and repartee immensely, and I'd like to keep it going. @uni blab That's not the purpose of the username, nor the exposition, but I'd be more than happy to address any objections you have to what I've said here or anywhere else.👂
