hi! i don't know if anyone will really read this, but i have never felt this way about exercise before. i'm 21, austistic girl with adhd too, and been trying to workout and get a little stronger since probably 11 years old. nothing ever worked for me, and trying to exercise only ever worsened my mental symptoms and overall made me feel like an absolute failure, due to the lack of strength and motor skill problems. but this time the time just flew right by! i am so proud of myself, and fingers crossed i will remember to go back to this workout tomorrow, and then again. thank you so much to the author! every second of this workout i have not felt like a weak, inexperienced klutz, like other workouts here on youtube would make me feel. i felt so supported and valid .... love you all

Oh my god I know this was 10 months ago but I understand you so much. For a very long time, I used exercise as a punishment and because I hated the way I looked. It made me hate moving my body because I felt so awful doing it. I didn't feel strong or able, I felt miserable and useless, I felt guilty for not exercising and only saw 'tough' workouts as ones that were 'effective'. I stopped working out for a long while and only went on leisurely walks during that time, but I've recently been getting into beginners yoga and pilates and it's been the best thing. To move my body how it's comfortable, to be told its okay to have breaks, to be told I'm doing a good job :) It's so reparative to understand that exercise is supposed to be enjoyable; it is not a punishment for your body, it's a celebration of what it can do!!

This is the first time I’ve ever commented on a RUclips video - I’m making an exception because I’m crying with gratitude. I’ve had chronic hip pain for the past year - it’s affected my quality of life so badly and nothing I’ve been doing (physiotherapy, yoga, acupuncture, walking, heat, pain meds) has made much difference, sometimes even making it worse. My mental health has also taken a nose-dive from being in pain and incapacitated. I’d begun to give up on ever recovering. But for the past couple of weeks I’ve been doing your beginner Pilates workouts and I feel hope again! The strength I’m already feeling in my core is really helping to support my posture and take the pressure out of my hip flexors so that they’re not so strained and tight all the time.
Your positive tone and gentle encouragement also make me feel great about getting out my mat. I’d tried some other Pilates videos and felt like the instructors were working against my body’s limits and reinforcing what i was doing “wrong” instead of celebrating what feels good about connecting with my body. Your videos have the perfect balance of expert knowledge and a warm, compassionate approach - it feels like befriending my body again. I am so inspired to keep going and reclaim my life in an embodied way. Thank you a million times for sharing your talents so generously 🌱

I had to log into RUclips to comment. I have long covid and have tried to build my stamina up for the past couple years. Would exhaust myself keeping up with gym, Pilates, even yoga was exhausting. It’s gotten to the point that I’ve gained weight and have muscle weakness which led to me falling and injuring my ankle. The point of my comment is to tell you thank you. I have never felt so safe and calm during a workout that actually did burn my muscles. I was able to complete without pausing. You have no idea the confidence you have given me this morning. You were so encouraging and validating about different stamina levels. I am crying. Thank you so much.

Dear Jessica, thank you for your work!!!
Your videos have taken my training to a whole new level of understanding and respecting my body. The things that you say, like "the two sides are gonna feel different and it's normal", "don't give up an exercise if it doesn't look exactly as it looks with me", "you never get a medal for finishing a beginner level- we all go forward and back depending on the circumstances"- it is pure gold!

Oh, gosh, this was absolutely perfect for my situation. At the "young" age of 57, I am wrangling with severe, quickly worsening hip arthritis, which is mind-boggling to me; this is a wear-and-tear issue, due to a lifetime of athletics, dance, and physically demanding work. When pandemic entered our world, my gym and its pool closed: Swimming has been my primary exercise, and without it, I felt lost. I revisited Pilates (which I used to teach!), and in searching for good online sources, I found Jessica. Throughout 2020, I have been doing her videos, even as the arthritis continues to become more debilitating and painful: It feels good to build core strength and to reclaim a feeling of length and openness. This newest Level 1 workout is a great way to feel proactive pre-hip replacement, and I imagine that I will use it as part of post-surgery rehab. Thank you so much, more than you can possibly imagine.

Don’t know if anyone will read this but, for anyone looking for a solution to working out while ageing This is a GEM!! If it is all I ever do moving forward I know I will not quit, I do it because it makes a difference and because I can do it without causing pain or injuring myself. If I had to go somewhere to do Pilates I know I wouldn’t keep it up. I am a 73 year old female ex trail runner with osteoarthritis, bad cholesterol and arrhythmia. I look strong and fit for my age but have been finding it increasingly difficult to hike because of pain. I am not a fan of the gym. Trainers and physiotherapists I have tried do not have a clue how to tailor treatment to my body. They hurt more than help. This little body workout could not have been more helpful. My hips are gradually loosening up, abs getting stronger and it makes me feel SO GOOD!!!! Thank you Jessica for putting this out into the universe for folks like me. I am so grateful.

Oh my goodness I love your workouts. This morning I took part in your Neck and shoulder video then followed it with the arms. I have been suffering with a the Ulnar and medial nerve causing such pain in my right arm, shoulder and my neck. So much so that I wasn’t getting any sleep unless I sat up with my arm propped up. I saw the physio yesterday and was given some exercises to do to help strengthen the collar bone and ease the pain from the nerves. However, I remembered seeing something about Pilates helping with trapped nerves and strengthening bones.
After doing the first video I was able to turn my neck further and then after the second the pins and needles in my hand stopped. I actually cried with relief. I know it’s not healed but those two videos I will follow for a week and then work towards improving my whole body.
    Thank you.

this was my first Pilates workout ever and all I gotta say is is you made it so much more enjoyable than I've ever found in any beginner or like gentle classes. Thank you so much for making this video. I have had medical issues the past 2 1/2 years that have prevented me from being able to work out and this was the best way to start back up

This is one of the things that my naturopath recommended to make my lower back muscles stronger. I do this as well as walking on a regular bases and also sometimes physio movements and cardio at gym

Dear Jessica, I really hope you see this. The fact that you're a physiotherapist and this isn't a run of the mill workout video shines through. I have adhd and autism traits, all my life I struggled with those fast-paced challenges; the damn burpees, the go go go mania, with dance moves, with anything and everything movement related. All my life I felt like a failure and the pounds kept piling up on me. I've been doing your workout for a week and I couldn't even imagine going to sleep without doing todays workout. Its 4 am here and I just got done. Your gentle, bright, non-invasive and kind energy is so welcoming. I was a little surprised when the workout ended because it went by so quickly. Please keep up the good work and know that you have so many people sending blessings your way.

Thank you Jessica. I have been inactive for so many years due to a range of physical and mental health issues. My leg muscles are extremely weak and i can't walk long distances. However since starting to follow your exercise tutorials and buying a pilates book. I feel a little fitter and able to move around a little better. I'm definitely going to keep it up. I have a bulged disc so i only do the exercises im able too but it's really helping. 😊

When I did, I realized what a great video you've put out. I was looking to get my strength back after an injury, and this 15 minute beginners pilates fits the bill, perfectly. Thank you for giving me some exercises to follow that will lead me gently back to where I need to be. To heck with the audio.

LOL I am going to do another 25 min pilates video every morning and this one every night for six weeks and see how I feel at work after that. People in my profession have said pilates did wonders for them, so I'm crossing fingers...

As a rank beginner to pilate and yoga I found this to be an excellent start. Admittedly I am not out of shape at 76 years old. For the past 8 years I have walked and power walked daily 5 miles. However, I feel my body wasn't getting anything more out of just walking. I'm so pleased I found Jessica's pilate for beginners. This will add a wonderful new dimension to my workouts. Thanks
