It hurts to hear how strong she tries to be, but allowing herself to be torn away pieces by pieces by this small man who does not understand love. It’s not her place to do anything for him, because there’s no point to it. He needs to figure himself out, but only if he even cares to do so for his own sake. He cried after he'd what? Hurt her? He needed a psychiatrist.. not a psychologist. Psychiatrists can give medicine to get his aggressive outbursts in check, as well as a psychologist .. always learn from others. If someone has a problem.. get them to a psychiatrist, most likely may save a lot of people. Very sad, she thought things might change, they don't without high input from lots of aspects, relationships are intense and can bring out the best or worst in people. She was clearly a really great person and this may allow others to learn to get out, get safe & get the mixed up individual to a psychiatrist.. & then counseling on top. The law is the bottom off the cliff and the judge is the executioner.. hands out criminal convictions so people then can't get a job, so shoves them further down the cliff. I think there is too much doubt in this case... no one has bothered to hang a weight equivalent or get him to carry a weight equivalent.. how was she sitting on a chair? Doesn't make sense at all.

Her family in releasing this very private conversation within the confines of their home, is helping the defence. She sounds drunk here and she’s also referenced wanting to jump off a bridge. Also, this is HUGELY disrespectful to her memory. What kind of relatives are these?? Her work colleagues will get to listen to this and for a woman who achieved such great successes in her career, this is appalling for her relatives to expose her like this. Disgusting

I disagree. This has all come out at the trial, and is in all the NZ papers. I've heard nothing in this that I hadn't read in the paper, other than she had a clear out from the relationship, with family support, so suicide seems very unlikely. This recording is helping her memory, and supporting her case. Phillip was not a nice man at this point in the relationship.

Why are there suddenly all these secret recordings. Do people go round recording every conversation? She probably had no idea she was being recorded. I doubt she would be happy knowing she was being secretly recorded. What a weird brother and niece she has.

    • @nickyg6056

The reason for the conversation being recorded was explained in the trial. Her niece explained that they (Pauline, her brother and the niece) had met up to discuss the estate of their recently deceased mother. They initially started the recording to have an account of what they agreed upon in regard to the division of the estate. I think this part of the conversation followed on from that and just happened to still be recording. The full conversation probably isn’t included in the trial because only this part of it is relevant to the case.

Though the clinking of wine bottles Pauline an intelligent but profoundly disturbed woman gives her sad, conflicted lament! Does he love me? Yes; he does but he needs to abuse her. She loves him and accepts the state of affairs and at times partipates willingly. Is friends with L who loves her. Very conflicted and confused woman who colludes with her so called abuser. Sad her professed love is not enough to keep this tragic marriage viable. Someone in the family thought it necessary to record her alcohol fueled woe. Her own high self opinion of herself overrides common sense. She dies!
