First time I saw Nettlefold studios (where film was made ) I thought it was a workshop...... I was lodging next door. Saw few Stars as Sheperton Studio's not far away. Landlady used to make a few Bob as they used to ask her if they could change Nuber on front door or Borrow something.
Percy Herbert (Bolter) was one of the most well known faces in the British film industry, saw him recently in 1958 film, Sea of Sand , where he played White.
Oooh, the innocent 50s! Cor!!! Crumpet! A nice little plot idea, but terrible feeble jokes and it´s only the excellent actors who save it. A real time capsule of social attitudes, and enjoyable largely because of that. The roots of Perry/Croft sitcoms are visible, with a Capt Mainwaring figure, and Harry Fowler´s spiv. Complete with comedy trumpet wah-wahs to let you know when to laugh! In the hands of Ealing Studios, and it could have been a classic.
Apparently, Thorley Walters was the actor the writers had in mind to play Captain Mainwaring in "Dad's Army" but he turned it down. I bet he lived to regret it. What a dreadful career move! As we know, it was played by Arthur Lowe, who to my mind occasionally becomes too unpleasant to be funny or likable. I think his acting should have been toned down a bit.
☑☑☑☑✔✔✔✔✔✔ Woefully bad for me, but it appears others enjoy it. It never seems to reach its full strap. Thank goodness for the fast forward function. I rate it a 4/10 - and it only just gets across the line for that. 14 Dec 2024
I know my old movies but I have never seen this before. Thanks for sharing, what a great funny flick.
My first time too
Oh, what fun 😅 some hearty laughs and truly a gem 💎
What a marvelous little film this is!
British humor, you have to love it. Very good movie with admirable truce between Germans and British. Fun to watch.
A kind of BBC’s Dad’s Army
Very good classic. War. Movie nice. One. To. See. 🎉🎉🎉🌟👍🌟👏👏
Long time since I have seen a No 18 set!
Good entertainment 👌
Good old Percy Herbert who knew what it is to be a pow.
He appeared again in "Too Late The Hero"
And Bridge Over The River Kwai and Guns at Batasi

We certainly made some good film back in those days..... Nothing seems to have quite the same charm nowadays.... Hi from England...
The British are masters of funny and quirky comedy

Thorley Walters
the rude flu-tormented
Police Detective in
"Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed"
Nadja Regin appeared in “From Russia With Love” and “Goldfinger”.
Is that her name? She was beautiful.
فلم حربي جميل جدا
Nadja Regin, From Russia with Love! 😍
Why can't everyone get along together ?
Hammer?! I don't usually think of Hammer for guffaws.

A Corker.
Good entertaining movie. But couldn't they used a person speaking with a German accent in stead of a pure old style prim and proper British guy.. 😂😂
The Anglo-Saxons were Germanic tribes. Many many English actors play Germans, George Sanders for only one, and they do it legitimately.
