I had always heard this in the usual ways; cello, piano, and guitar. But one day I was watching The Masters and during one of the “commercials”, there was music playing over it that sounded familiar and I realized it was the famous cello suite but it was played by a mandolin. It sounded so warm and soft and just very gentle.
I play cello, but I have Ra, its becoming a problem. I have a Mandolin I think Mandolin will be my new instrument. This was so Beautifully played, thank you! 😊🎶
If you look into a mandola, it's like a bigger mando, except tuned like a cello (C, G, D, A), so the same pitches would be there; or, you could look into an octave mandolin, which is a bit bigger than a mandola, but tuned an octave down from a regular mando (G, D, A, E). The fretboards on those are definitely not as large as a cellos, by a long shot, but are closer to small guitar size, so I would guess, depending on how your RA affects your fretting hand, maybe the larger mandos could allow your hand to stay in more of a natural position, without being too cramped? :) (I used to play mandolin many years ago, but having been born with a slowly progressive hearing loss, I had to eventually sell it because the high strings became too difficult to hear. I miss playing mando, so I'm looking into an octave mandolin due to it being in guitar range--I also play 7- and 8-string guitars--which puts it more in my range of hearing, save the very upper frets on the high e string. :) I hope you find the instrument that brings you joy and lets you play comfortably! :)
Amazing! You gave me more reasons to learn to play mandolin. I can see that this mandolin version comes from the Classical Guitar version of this Bach prelude.
would love to learn this- don't want TAB- would you be able to point me / us in the right direction to where I could print some sheet music for this piece? Thanks & Regards
+justincrawford1974 This piece is from the first cello suite and you can find the sheet music for the entire suite transcribed for violin (which also works for mandolin) here: conquest.imslp.info/files/imglnks/usimg/e/ee/IMSLP128511-PMLP164349-Suite_pour_Violoncelle_No_1_sans_liesons_pour_Violon.pdf This prelude is the first two pages of notes.
This link is not working for me, is this still up? I wouldn't mind taking a look at this music myself. Thanks sounds very nice on your mandolin, great job.
Yeah IMSLP changes around the addresses sometimes. Here is a link to another version. petrucci.mus.auth.gr/imglnks/usimg/d/d7/IMSLP121690-WIMA.e315-vl100712.pdf
+Skipper Hamilton Go on Amazon (or any book store) and type in J.S. BACH CELLO SUITES FOR MANDOLIN. That's a wonderful book of notation for mandolin of the entire Bach cello suites.
Certainly a very nice piece, but I wouldn’t call it particularly technically challenging. The real challenge, I’d say, is architectural, to make it sound other than like an elementary finger exercise.
Awesome job. This song is on my list of things to learn on my mandolin, and it sound great on this instrument. What kind of mandolin is that also? Its gorgeous.
+MrNostars It's an f-style. A-styles have a body shaped like a tear or circle, and f-styles look like violins, like this one. With the scroll-work that swoops up towards the neck. F-styles are generally much more expensive. This one is by Eastman, which is a more affordable Asian mandolin manufacturer. F-styles aren't necessarily better than A-styles, they tend to have a bit different of a tone and look gorgeous, and are a lot more work to make. A-styles are generally louder, but can sound just as good.
+DJ Grumbles oh yes, I am aware of the different styles of mandolin, I have 2 a-styles myself. Was just curious of the brand because it sounded so warm. Thanks for letting me know!
+MrNostars Hey sorry for the slow response. It's an Eastman 615 but the warmth comes mainly from the Thomastik flatwound strings. Good to hear that you like it :)
A lot of wrong notes here. Some of them are obviously just glitches, but at least several others appear to be the result of sloppy learning or sloppy transposition (the piece has been moved up a perfect twelfth to accommodate the mandolin).
I just stole my dad's mandolins (He rarely uses them, since he plays guitar) and copied the exact same cello fingerings of this piece, it sounds gorgeous...
@@salmiakki_ Public and popular opionion. It's like Hokusai and his The Great Wave off Kanagawa . It simply is an extreme popularization of the piece that determins the fact that everbody plays it. I call for a 10 year ban of the Cello suite. Enough.
I call for a 10 year ban of people complaining about music just because others like it.
