This video was fantastic, my trim wouldn’t bring my 2000 90 horse mercury 4 stroke boat motor up. I was able to figure the problem out in about 10 minutes after watching this video. Thank you so much for you help..Dennis
@@shawnbrinton4198 it wasn’t the switch, or the next thing in line, it was the third step with the green and blue wires. I checked all the connections on the wire that you said was the one for raising the motor. One connection had a nut behind and on top of the connection. I took the top one off and the connection wire and cleaned them both . The nut closest to the engine needed to be tightened, then I put the wire connection back on and the nut and tightened it snuggly but not too tight.. And praise God my prayers were answered. It worked like brand new. Before it was fixed it would work sometimes and other times wouldn’t work. Then it completely stopped working. Now it works great. In order to understand what I’m talking about you need to watch the video. Before it was walking correctly I switched the two wires green and blue around and tats how I got the motor up for winter storage. That way I knew the hydraulic system was working. Follow those wires directly from the hydraulic system to the engine..thanks for putting that video on and thank you Jesus for leading me to it.

Good vid. My issue on my 100 2+2 1995 model is the down motor actuation sounds normal in sound but my up mechanism sounds screechy rough though works. Fluid is normal level, no milkiness.
Great demonstration. What if your up does nothing and your down moves outdrive up. Everything was working fine until a metal object hit the up pos relay conection and sparked. Was just a small vent in back of seat.
Great video. On my 2000 ELPT 90hp 0G999647 my trim up wouldn't work but had power to the solenoid. I reversed the blue and green wires on the solenoid and the problem reversed. I purchased an OEM solenoid and still have the same problem. Any suggestions?

Mine is doing the same. I’m going to load test my batteries to make sure they are not weak. Then I’m going to switch the relays, and see if my problem is just reversed.

@@MrTomtusti Not necessarily. The relay that is not being operated is supposed to connect the motor to ground. If this contact in the relay is faulty it will appear as if the good one is bad and the bad one is good. Best bet is to change both.
Great video. Something happened to our boat that is not in video. Our motor as we were underway just went all the way up and will not go back down. Swith at helm does nothing and the switch on the motor does nothing as well. Every few minutes you can here the motor trying to go up. (Just winding) Any clue what this could be? what about an intermittent problem..i replaced the trim switch and 4 days later the motor came up by himself..last week the motor was try to go down itself..the switch is brand new and work fine for up and down and even on the control the switch is working good..where i should check next?..ty sir for your video

Hey thanks for this tutorial this is perfect ! I followed the trouble shooting. I found that the voltage is perfect all long. I opened the top of the trim motor to check the voltage inside and it was ok too. But the inside of the trim motor is full of dirt. The problème is that the sometime the motor works and sometime not. I guess there is something inside the trim motor maybe the brush ? Do you have a video to clean the inside of the motor ?
@@garester94501 yes i fixed it, I unmounted the trim motor, I took appart the motor in pieces, sanded and clean the part. It was completely corroded. And now everything is working perfect !

Hi, great video. I'm having a issue with my mercury 1999 50hp 4 stroke power trim that's driving me crazy and nobody iv spoke to knows how to solve it. Any advise would be great. The ram moves up and down perfectly but under load it sinks back to the lowers point. IV tried manually bleeding the system. Iv changed all seals in the ram and ball bearings with the full seal kit. Iv inspected the valve side of the power trim where the reservoir sits and cleaned all parts, everything looks in good order with no wear. in the valve block there is, 1 small ball and spring, 2 larger balls with no spring, 2 cogs and a small drive shaft, all looks good and clean. I am totally baffled, iv done everything people have suggested and the trim still drops under load, you can actually push the ram down with your hand. Any advice would be a God send.
@@HavenMelton When changing the oil or repairing the trim it is common to get air in the system. You need to actuate the trim up and down until the bubbles work themselves out. Put the battery on a charger and work that trim until you get full pressure again.
I have a brand new pontoon, 90 hp mercury, and it won't trim up under way above 2000 rpms. Trims down no issue, trims up and down no issue out of water or parked, trims from either the outboard or the captains chair but still won't trim up under way above 2k rpms. At dealer and they're like it works fine. I'm like yeah it doesn't work when moving on the water. Brand new boat less than 6 hours. Any thoughts?
My 25hp merc 4stroke TRIM WORKS works perfectly GOING UP AND DOWN but I am Not getting any trim signal to the NEW gauge. Confirmed power and ground r good as well as the new trim gauge being the right one I want to add. Any ideas appreciated on whats possible? I have no signal at the motor itself.

I’ve got a buddy who just took his boat for the first time of the year, yesterday. While drifting around, outboard running (2009 MERCURY 115 EFI), his motor died and the trim/tilt stopped working at the same time. I’m thinking a fuse. However, I don’t know which. Thinking the 15 amp HELM fuse. Any ideas? Thanks!
Excellent presentation. My boat is garage kept. Last night the power trim raised itself. I lowered the motor with the trim switch on the throttle. When I woke up this morning i found the motor had raised again and wedged the boat in my garage. I attempted to lower the motor from the throttle control and all I heard was a click in up or down position. Is this a switch problem?
I had the same thing happen to me. I was watching as the trim suddenly started going up on its own. Checked and all the trim switches were in the correct positions at the time. I replaced the relays and we'll see if that fixes it. Your boat is NOT haunted. Good thing my friend was also there at the time as a witness or no one would believe this

I have a brand new 150 merc was out today about to plane and noticed the motor started to trim up and wouldn’t stop. I had to switch motor off and I couldn’t stop it even after resetting. Only way to get motor down was to flip the green and blue cables to get me back to trailer. Any ideas?
I have a 2012 pro xs 115 and went out side the other day. The trim had kicked on in the down position and was still trying to go down. I have a switch on the front of the boat and I disconnected. Now the trim won’t go up or down and motor won’t even turn over. Any ideas what I should check?

Hmmmm i dont think my evinrude dont have a circuit breaker but it does work if i supply 12v directly to the wire but switch wont do nothing so Gotta check my switch thanks!!!
Lost my up trim, down still worked. Replaced both relays and same problem. I flipped the blue/green wire and the down switch made it come up. Where does my problem lay. Bad switch? Neither switch will make it come up.
So I tested everything and I have voltage where I need it. Connected the motor directly to power and both directions work. As soon as I reconnect the wires and use the switch at the throttle, the up is intermittent. Sometimes I can hear the click and other times nothing. I even connected power to run through the relays and it works great. It gets intermittent when I reconnect the blue connection from the switch. I read somewhere else that if the connection is loose, I could have voltage but not enough current to operate the relay. Does that sound possible? Do the wires from the throttle arm run through the dash or directly back to the motor? I tried tracing wires but with the 9.9 Pro Kicker it is pretty tight in there. I also put my multimeter on the blue wire while connected to see if I still have voltage present and when I press the switch nothing and the motor doesn't trim up. However as soon as I disconnect the wire terminal it has voltage. Any thoughts? I've tried everything.
Something you did not cover , my power trim works as it should until you are going down the lake , it will not trim up going down the lake , it looks like it is jumping , if it is trimmed up and you take off it goes down .
I have a tracker targa with a 150 mercury and the trim only works when going 2000 rpms or lower. Once I get above that it won’t work. Trying to trim while on plane won’t work. So I can’t lift the nose when there are waves etc or be more efficient on plane. Anyone know what could cause this? All trim works great when not moving or moving slow at 2000 rpms but if I don’t have it trimmed down I can’t go full throttle it Boggs down and if I’m above 2000 rpms I can’t trim at all.
So what if you have 12v coming from the relays when commanded by switch and motor wont trim up, though actuator will trim up when connected directly battery. Im lost.

Great video! still need your advice; my merc 60 hp outboard will randomly raise up and won't go down. The trim engine also seemed to be stuck and would not turn off till I disconnected at the relay switch. To fix the immediate problem, I switched the blue and green wires to the relays to allow the motor go down so I could get back to the dock. Later, I replaced the two relays-but the problem persists! What if trim works up and down gets sluggish and stops working then starts working when not used for a few minutes? Changed relays 2x does same thing when using switch on engine and throttle handle.
My tilt and trim works up and down but only for a few seconds. Then it quits and you can wait a few minutes and it will work again. replaced the two relays same thing. what can i check?

@@Martinxeneize10 My trim motor works when I jumper it directly from the battery so I know that the motor and pump are good. I have to trim buttons, one on the shifter and one on the stern of the boat next to the ladder. I feel that the problem is somewhere down the line where both trim controls meet since neither are working. I will get to it soon because it is warming up quickly!

i think it's the trim switch on gear lever i had to replace all the others they burned up I heard it happened to a brand new mercury 250 i just put a switch on battery so i can turn it off

Great video! still need your advice; my merc 60 hp outboard will randomly raise up and won't go down. The trim engine also seemed to be stuck and would not turn off till I disconnected at the relay switch. To fix the immediate problem, I switched the blue and green wires to the relays to allow the motor go down so I could get back to the dock. Later, I replaced the two relays-but the problem persists! Can you help me figure out what I am missing?

What if trim works up and down gets sluggish and stops working then starts working when not used for a few minutes? Changed relays 2x does same thing when using switch on engine and throttle handle.

My trim isn’t working at all. I get no power I just replaced 2 solenoids

What if I replaced both fuses and it clicked but it won't go up or down
My tilt and trim works up and down but only for a few seconds. Then it quits and you can wait a few minutes and it will work again. replaced the two relays same thing. what can i check?

What happens if neither up or down are working from either the shifter or the stern controller?

@@07Convertable aye good luck. I changed both relays that didnt fix it. My trim motor works. Switches do aswell. So must be some faulty wire somewhere
@@Martinxeneize10 My trim motor works when I jumper it directly from the battery so I know that the motor and pump are good. I have to trim buttons, one on the shifter and one on the stern of the boat next to the ladder. I feel that the problem is somewhere down the line where both trim controls meet since neither are working. I will get to it soon because it is warming up quickly!
@@07Convertable man i have the same issue. I might re crimp that whole section at this point because it doesnt look so good anyways. Ill let u know what the issue was when i solve it

If actuator motor is good, why not just connect green and blue wire to an on/off/on switch and forget about the relay?

i think it's the trim switch on gear lever i had to replace all the others they burned up I heard it happened to a brand new mercury 250 i just put a switch on battery so i can turn it off
