Thanx for the video. I still have a problem and at my wits end. I’ve replaced the trim switch and both solenoids on the pump. Trailer switch works as does the switch at the transom. The trim switch on the throttle works down but not up. Where do I look next?
so you have a video on how you put it back together. Mine fell off while I was coming back in to dock. scared the crap out of me. So now its dangling. Looks like my teeth are stripped. Trying to get a replacement but wanted to see a video of someone putting it back together again.
Not sure I can help you without seeing your setup. Watch it a couple times and it will make sense, not a lot of moving parts. Look for a video on cable replacement and it my show a little more detail. I’m just a DIY guy and not a mechanic, o wish you well on your repair. Hi, quick question, what's the difference between inboard vs outboard shifter, can I buy an outboard shifter for an inboard engine? Thanks for your help!
I’m just a DIY guy and not a mechanic. But I do know that not all shift cables are the same, they are specific to the manufacturer of your motor. You will need to match that manufacturer. A quick google search should get you on the right track. Good luck with your project
The blue one, I recommend doing a Google search for Mercruiser trim switch wiring diagram to familiarize yourself with the whole system. Good luck with your repairs
OK - first of all... thanks for the video. I learned SOME things that were really helpful. Now to the critique. I found it to be impossible to get that "throttle only" button out without breaking it. Impossible. On yours there was only one barbed end piece instead of the four it was made with. That's why you were able to get yours out. With the full set of four barbs, it will not come out. I broke the pushbutton end of it clean off. True that there are inexpensive replacements available, but still - isn't there a way to open this whole assembly up without breaking it????
Hey rick I have the same old 3000 unit that you had and want to update it to a newer smoother one whats the one you used after the fact and how do you like it? was it a pain doing the wiring change?
Sorry, but I’m not a boat repairman. I’m just a DIY weekend warrior. When I can’t find a video on YT for something I make my own. I really appreciate when someone else does. What you see is what I know. The replacement switch wires are properly color coated. Just connect the ones you do have and leave the last one free. I just pet a little electrical tape on the end so no possibility of it shorting something. Good luck on your project
Thanks much. Didn't want to start ripping the thing apart before learning how it SHOULD come apart.
Thanks Rick, very helpful, I appreciate your time n effort to show us this. Cheers for that.

Did you figure it out? I have the same problem.
Exactly the video I needed. Thank you 👍🏻
Thank you. I did not have to break plastic parts to disassemble.
Throttle advancement button broke. you said they were $3 or $4 all day. Any suggestions on where to find one?

You don't have to cut the wires. There is a plug for the switch assembly harness.
thanks!
Thank you
My quick silver has only 3 wires?
