The wonders of videos posted to RUclips, they're the gift that keeps on giving. You posted this SEVEN years ago and it's still helping us mentally challenged boaters. Thanks much from the USA !!!
Thanks Stu, with 40 years experience behind me I always find your explanations spot on and well relayed. If every person in the industry were as sharp as you we would need half as many. Cheers from Oregon.
So every time I have a problem my searches always lead me back to you. Here we are again... thanks for your help... again. "Understand how they work"... This is what has become so valuable about your videos. I dont just get the 'fix' but i get a fuller understanding of the 'why' the 'how' and sometimes the 'when'. Awesome.
I had to watch the video about 10 times to fully understand the relay and its function and each wire connected, I'm a newbie to boating and your videos have really helped me, Thank you so very much. When you are in the USA you have a home to stay at My home is your Home.
Wow so well explained!!! I am going to the boat today to check out why the trim and tilt does not work. You just saved me hours for trial and error to learn how the system works.
I realize that I'm a bit late coming to the table but I must admit that this is absolutely the "BEST" video on relays that I've ever seen! Finally, someone who actually shows what they are talking about in action and on a real-world application. Thank you, Sir!! You have a new subscriber.
THANK YOU! I bought a motor with the relay harness melted. Couldn't find a replacement and I had all these odd cut wires to sort through. Got it working great today because of you. Very much appreciated!!
I’ll tell you what. I’m very mechanically incline. You are my favorite mechanic to learn from. Very informative. Very detailed. And you give the theory of how things work. Without the understanding of how it works your just remembering wiring. I own an hvac buiss in northern ny. Your awesome!!!! Thank you. Mike shew.
This video was 100% what I was looking for! Bought a boat that didn't come with the harness or the relays and didn't even know they existed! I was stuck staring off into space wondering how the hell to connect it to the shifter. You have made me happy-face and get a thumbs up and a subscriber.
I understand everything you said but still had a hard time piecing it all together until I watched this video. Awesome explanation. My trim-tilt now works!
I was literally on my way out the door to look at relays to get my trim setup working again. Thank you very much for this very clear presentation. The blackboard stuff was very helpful!
Thank you for your systematic, simple, & detailed instructions for the trim & tilt relay system! You are a fabulous instructor! Please keep the videos coming! P.S. I owned and operated an outboard motor repair business for 6 years, and I know that I still can learn new things!!
@@DangarMarine Where are you located? Your accent suggests you might be somewhere other than in the American South! (Where I am.) I've watched several more of your videos, and have really enjoyed them! Have a good day!
This explanation really helped, I didn't understand all the relay mumbo jumbo and now I vaguely do. I appreciate all your vids. thank you thank you thank you.
Thank you so Much! I had 3 of these solenoids laying around and This worked like a charm and motor doesn't heat up any longer. So happy to have my trim and tilt up and running!
Pretty amazing when you stumble across a video on youtube that is 100% what you're looking for. Thank you for this excellent leason. Fingers crossed my power tilt install goes without issue.
Thanks for the complete explanation with the diagrams as well. Your video explains trim tilt in such a way that a non-electrician like me can understand. Excellent example.
I have a practical relay troubleshooting lab final tomorrow first thing in the morning, your video has REALLY given me better insight and understanding than the notes and now I honestly feel like I have a shot at passing

Thank you this ,has helped me no end. I found the problem and your loom has sorted it. Not being savvy with circuits it's nice to find something so well explained and easy to follow.
I watched this a few years ago to fix my tilt and trim on my Johnson outboard, today I'm back to apply the same setup to a bus door to replace a circuit board that no longer exists!
Thank you for posting the video on how to make a trim title switch. That was excellent step by step instructions on how the relay system works. Because of your clear delivery on the function of each pin on the relay I was able to get the trim title on my Johnson working again. Thanks again Dangar Marine. Will
Good day currently dealing with my tilt trim only going up not down and I am 💯 percent sure that this video and your explanation will help me through well done 👍
Excellent Video and explanation of a Tilt/Trim or Trim Tab (reversing) motor using a relay. I knew very little about relays until this video, and now I am 100% certain about how to wire my trim tab motors with heavy duty wire at the motor and light duty wire running to the help. !!! before this video, I thought that the wires that ran to the dashboard switch were running from the POSITIVE side of the circuit -- now I see that the Normally On and the DPDS switch on the dash is carrying the NEGATIVE current. Thank you Dangar Marine.. really appreciate you taking time to share this knowledge. you also saved me from having to wait (and pay) for a marine electrician.
Well stuck here in Florida with my 1998 22 ft regal boat with my lower unit stuck in the down position .And the switch on the shifter doing nothing . I thought I would watch some RUclips videos on the operation of the trim motor system . Well after watching your detail video ,I was able to diag the problem to a pour electrical connector to the trim motor itself. problem solved. Thanks for a great detail video from down under ,well done .
Thanks again Mr. Dangar. Its's always a pleasure to watch and learn. You do a fantastic job with your lessons. I bought a 48 Johnson that had the relays robbed from the motor. Now I'm on my way to fixing that thanks to you. No more running aground in the Chesapeake, My prop and lower unit want to say Thanks Also!
Absolutley excellent!! On my 97 Evinrude 40, the trim switches are fed by the + of the battery and the other side of the solenoid coils are at - of the battery. Functionality is still identical to your drawing. Good work mate...
