Albert in the background looking rejected and neglected is a little gem people tend to overlook. Deep down he knew he couldn’t compete with Celie when it came to Shug’s affections..This was the only time he didn’t have power over Celie or Shug.
god damn js exposed exactly how albert felt when he realized that Shug felt more affection towards Celie than she would ever feel towards him honestly i couldn't find shug really loving albert unless she was pissy drunk
the smile she couldn't contain and the watery eyes always gets me. she felt appreciated, seen, cared for, then loved. then there's shug with a big loving smile trying to take celie's hands from covering hers. i love this scene so so much. the song is way too beautiful
And Spielberg is such a great Director, the symbolism in almost every frame of the entire film is awesome. Like when Shug approaches the table and moves Mister's hat out of the way and kneels to meet Celie at eye level. Celie was no longer the homely nobody that nobody wanted, whose job was to watch Mister's hat while he flirted with other women. For once, somebody saw Celie and made everyone else see her too ❤😊
The amount of serotonin that filled my brain the second Shug removes Miss Celie's hands from her mouth in a way to uplift her is just....😊💗💓✨ Truly one of a kind 💕 we need more Shugs in the world for all the other Celie's that feel powerless 💪🏻♀️
Spielberg, the costume designers and the cast and lighting professionals all got robbed when they didnt get Oscars for this film. Nominated for 11 Oscars and won none, and he used to always respond, essentially, that we all know why (because it was a film about rural black life written by a black woman from thay community) and Hollywood didn't , and often still doesn't, see those stories as contenders.
This is such a beautiful scene...for the first time .. somebody told her she's something. Just beautiful.
