I made my kids watch at an early age as well. When they were at an age where I knew it would leave an IMPRINT on their minds. I'm white and have white kids but it's IMPERATIVE that they know what kind of things happened.
This scene hurts so much it always makes me cry I couldn't protect my sister either and I feel she was torn from me loving someone that much and having them TORN from you is gut wrenching
In the behind the scenes, Spielberg told the actresses, Akousa and Desreta, 'Don't let go of each other; Fight to get back to each other.' and Danny was told 'Do everything to keep them apart.' The part where he hits their hands said was the worst feeling he got in that scene and had to take a minute after apologizing for hitting them. Don't know how many takes it took, but by the end, everyone was exhausted and upset. A powerful scene on screen and for the cast and crew to film.
This scene gets to me. My heart hurts but it's not until Celie says "don't go" that I start crying. Knowing they'll be apart for who knows how long, Celie alone and trapped with Mr. horrible, beautifully done though.
I never watched the movie but fun fact: This was the last movie directed by Steven Spielberg that wasn't composed by John Williams until Bridge of Spies in 2015, 30 years later
Bro, you can hear the pain and sadness in Nettie's voice when she's singing the song to the game she played with her sister, if this ever happened to me and I got separated from my sister and brother, I'd be devastated cause we may fight but I love them so much😢😢😢
This is true both sisters should have left but the other one was afraid she was afraid of that man and that's why he kept her under his thumb until the end of the movie when she got brave
"should" and "could" are sadly two different concepts. celie "should" have left, but, "could" she? remember, the brain is the absolute most powerful prison you could be trapped in, and she was trained to be trapped in hers since she was tiny.
What about the children? Ain’t that what folks say nowadays but we had to watch stuff like this which was real life issues but when all real life issues is exposed it’s a problem yall folks be delusional especially ✊🏾
Alex Trebek: This color ends in "urple." Keanu Reeves: I will venture a guess. Who is Jaleel White? Trebek: What? Reeves: Is that not the gentlemen who played Urple, the humorous fellow with the glasses who loves cheese? Alex Trebek: That’s Urkel!
It's too bad this story fell into the hands of the wrong director. It was so overstaged, too slick, cliche ridden, with ridiculous zoom ins. I think Spielberg was still in his Norman Rockwell/ Hallmark Cards phase. He finally shook that off when he directed Saving Private Ryan and Schindler's List.
I got emotional, the acting is phenomenal. But so heartbreaking as well :(
Now why did my momma have us watching this in elementary school?😭😭
this movie was my babysitter 😭

Some of the most harrowing scenes ever. The acting is superb.
Still heartbreaking. From what i see of the scene in the trailer for the new one, doesn't live up to this one.
They didn’t even try 🤦🏾♂️
Thank you to the new version for not being as traumatizing as this one. Still got the point across. This is a powerful scene, but once was enough.
I had a feeling the song that was supposed to play during that scene was cut with how it was raining.

She is so beautiful!!!
Nettie loves her Sister Celie she never deserved that Albert is an controlling man , He separated Nettie from Celie makes me wanna cry 😭😭😭
Great directing and performances.
Indeed Thank You Warner Bros. Entertainment
That is so raw and disturbing
39 years have passed since this movie's release , and the story is still relevant 😢
It’s one of my all time favourite movies. It’s a shame that it did,nt get any awards.
It was relevant when it was written 75 or so years ago. Still is, and we think things are better.
Everyone in this movie was so believable!
From what I understand, Danny Glover found this scene very difficult to do.
Many gave Alice a hard time, but she was honest 🙏😎
Desafortunadamente aún seguimos viviendo tal crueldad en los niños y la violación a su inocencia 😢
Nah, the way he just followed her like that in the beginning is so creepy 😖

Back then it was hard a great movie about our trumpants we had to do to overcome.

35 years later, this scene still gets to me.😢
This is a very sad and heartbreaking scene 😢💔
And that's how Harpo learned to treat women.

If I had a part in a movie, I wouldn’t want to have to play a volatile character like Albert in Color Purple or Mary in Precious.
