the fact that like 5% of this episode's entire runtime is dedicated to roger rabbit sequels is another testament to the reasons why this channel can't keep me away LMAOOOOO
Sometimes, we really need to sit back and think about how lucky we are that we’ve got a RUclips channel that delivers crazy high quality conversations on anything from The Dark Knight Returns to Star Trek/X-Men.
Something that I always appreciate about Back Issues is that no matter what combination is sitting on that couch, the energy, chemistry, and entertainment value stays the same.
We need the Mirror, mirror version of Back Issues. Sal fresh shaven, Tiffany hating magic, Ethan having no issues with scientific misinformation, all reviewing their favorite comic, Sonichu.
I am moving into my dorm tomorrow morning for my freshman year. I won’t have a lot of disposable income, so here you go. I know it’s not a lot, but thank you guys for never failing to put a smile on my face.
Sometimes episodes of Back Issues scares me, because Sal will pull comics that I have but haven't thought of in years. It's like he's reached into my mind and is echoing back those weird stories I only slightly remember.
I love that Marvel was like "star trek has a complicated lore. We should make an entry book to familiarize our fans with it" equating to 1/3 of this episode being Sal trying to explain 30 years of complicated x-men lore
Fuck yes !!. The Jason episodes have become some of my favorites. I'm in the minority like a nice tiny niche corner of the minority of the POPulation because I love the Star Trek , Star wars , predator, aliens and Terminator episodes. I also love all the crossover episodes and I like to see more but we know they don't perform well .
8:28 yeah, and all that Mirror Universe energy got shuffled onto Transformers with the multiple Shattered Glass series from the Botcon organizers in the late 2000's and the IDW comic series in 2020 or so... and yes, one character does have a beard and it's Hot Rod
Because I was only familiar with the novel so when I saw the title I thought the episode was going to be Sal flexing his citation skills as he showed off the book.
Instead of just commenting how about we all share this one and see if we can get the guys some well deserved views for taking a risk on a fun crossover book!
Sal- "Oh boy! Were doing a Star trek/ z-men cross-over book. I have the perfect excuse to wear it!" Tiffany- "Theres no corilation, you have no excuses, just wear the damn Maxx shirt and let me sleep in for 5 more minutes"
This is one of my first comics, I got it from my, at the time, new uncle alongside a bunch of random Hellboy and Batman graphic novels. I never saw Stark Trek and had never heard of the Shi'ar. I read it purely because I knew about the x men only from the movies. 15-ish years later I can finally understand this book. Thanks Sal lol.
I'm not sure how Sal stores fandom knowledge comics, Star Trek, Star Wars, and cinema... AND literature since he taught English. Oh and the franchise lore of Alien, Predator, AND Terminator.
Jason guest-starring Back Issues episodes always lead to tangents and have a different vibe, which honestly reminds me of TVLittleHouse era Back Issues. I've found myself saying aloud "Oh cool a Jason episode" the last few times they showed up in my feed
I haven't seen anything of Star Trek, so I am out of the loop for most of these tangents. And yet I will gleefully watch hours of these guys talk about Stark Trek just because they're having a blast!
goddang it sal, wesley the white i'm freaking flywheel the red from coughing so hard when you laugh into a strange hacking cough because it just came on so suddenly
Lewis' summary of Where No Man Has Gone Before is great. Spock: Hahaha. Oh, you kooky humans and your emotions. Gary Mitchell: I'm Gary Mitchell and I'm Kirk's best friend. Kirk: Set course for that intergalactic barrier that probably won't do anything. Girl: Ohhh. Gary: Ohhh. Gary: I'm Gary Mitchell and I've got God-like powers now, watch me move a styrofoam cup with my mind. *See it happen with silly sound effects* Isn't that awesome! Girl: So what if he's got God-like powers, maybe he's really nice and having God-like powers will help the species and he won't try to take over the universe. *chirping crickets* Kirk: Lady, you've just totally re-invented stupid. Gary: I'm the God, I'm the God! Kirk: Time to rip my shirt and kick some ass. Gary: Oh, god, a rock! My God-like powers are useless against it!
I hope we will see Star Trek/Planet of the Apes on Back Issues some day. It’s a pretty fun book. It has some great variant covers in the style of the Gold Key Star Trek books from the 60s that are worth checking out.
Lilandra's "hair" is feathers, but it's rarely drawn in a way that makes that obvious. And Deathbird is a "genetic throwback" with actual wings. Of course, Sal is correct in that she also frequently wears capes and the like with feathers on them.
I've never clicked on a video fast enough. I LOVED these crossovers ever since they came out, and I was waiting for the day you guys would cover this, and it's FINALLY come! This is one of the funniest episodes you guys have done in quite a while. The tangents about Westley and Roger Rabbit were utterly hilarious. XD And funny enough, in that Trek/X-Men novel, the characters make a note of how Professor X and Picard look and act similar.....and this predated all of the X-Men movies. So this random crossover book actually predicted the casting choice for Professor X. XD
God damnit!! I love this episode I never knew this existed and I've been clamoring for a certain star tek crossover book since it was brought up whenever it's mentioned....😑😑😑 Lol but yalls coverage of this star tek crossover is still a fucking great also 🎉🎉 yaaay thank you Jason
I'm gonna be that guy... Sal the Shiar are humanoid and not humans. The feathers and claws and wings are not a design choice. They indeed evolved from birds. Much like homo sapiens of Earth descended from apelike ancestors, the Shiar are of avian ancestry.
I stop looking after reading a few dozen comments, but... ...the Constellation Class ships were those ships that had a really thick saucer section and 4 warp nacelles. Good examples would be Picard's first command, the USS Stargazer, or the ship Riker commanded during the wargames in TNG's 2nd season episode "Peak Performance." Originally, Picard's USS Stargazer was going to be a Constitution class, but producers decided against this after filming had already started, and "Constellation" was inserted using ADR because of its phonetic similarities to the word "Constitution."
It's weird because the late 90s was the peak of my X-Men obsession and my Star Trek obsession, and I remember seeing the advertisements for this book and just thinking "no, not interested." Who was the target audience if not me lol.
I've mevee seen one second of any Star Trek. Only seem memes and clips. But its Back Issues, so I'm on board. PLUS, we've returned to the Universe where Jason's the 3rd man😁
I went to Steel City Con one year for my buddy's comic store and William Shatner was there as a guest, but he was in a, like, plastic box the whole time. He had left early though so it was just an empty box with a chair in it.
the fact that like 5% of this episode's entire runtime is dedicated to roger rabbit sequels is another testament to the reasons why this channel can't keep me away LMAOOOOO
I want to hear that 20 minute rant
Sometimes, we really need to sit back and think about how lucky we are that we’ve got a RUclips channel that delivers crazy high quality conversations on anything from The Dark Knight Returns to Star Trek/X-Men.
AKA that time Dr. McCoy meet Dr. McCoy lol
met*
Ok now I wanna hear that 20 minute tangent
We need it
Definitely!
I couldn't agree more!
When Jason is on the couch you know it’s about to be a dope ass book that most people have never heard of and that we all love by the end
Something that I always appreciate about Back Issues is that no matter what combination is sitting on that couch, the energy, chemistry, and entertainment value stays the same.
Could we please get a Star Trek parody video with Sal as Kirk, Ethan as Spock, etc. because these Kirk impressions are hilarious.
Sal’s robot/android hate is so powerful even data isn’t safe.
We need the Mirror, mirror version of Back Issues. Sal fresh shaven, Tiffany hating magic, Ethan having no issues with scientific misinformation, all reviewing their favorite comic, Sonichu.
I will always remember Gladiator punching the Enterprise shields and Kirk going WTF? A great contrast of the two properties.
The Who Framed Roger Rabbit tangent is amazing!
I want that movie now 😂
@@comixproviderftw_02 me too!
I am moving into my dorm tomorrow morning for my freshman year. I won’t have a lot of disposable income, so here you go. I know it’s not a lot, but thank you guys for never failing to put a smile on my face.
Thank you and best of luck!

Always love when Jason is on the couch because that usually means the book is of questionable quality but the conversations will be top shelf!
"And this other lady died also." Hey, that's Sally Kellerman. Show some respect. 🙂
"Now I'm known as Wesley the White!" Okay, that one killed me.
Fuck yes !!. The Jason episodes have become some of my favorites. I'm in the minority like a nice tiny niche corner of the minority of the POPulation because I love the Star Trek , Star wars , predator, aliens and Terminator episodes. I also love all the crossover episodes and I like to see more but we know they don't perform well .
the comicpop subculture of Star Trek fans are thriving this day
I think that the Shiar are supposed to be "evolved birds" (and everything evolves into humanoids, of course).
Sal’s Kirk impression is the best thing since salan Moore 😂
8:28 yeah, and all that Mirror Universe energy got shuffled onto Transformers with the multiple Shattered Glass series from the Botcon organizers in the late 2000's and the IDW comic series in 2020 or so... and yes, one character does have a beard and it's Hot Rod
The fact nobody said “Star Trex-men”
Sal's Sulu voice is accidentally a dead-on Kryten impression
Because I was only familiar with the novel so when I saw the title I thought the episode was going to be Sal flexing his citation skills as he showed off the book.
Well, usually on the show, someone would come up with a complicated plan, then explain it with a simple analogy.
50:23
Of course! It's so simple!
We need that Tangent!
Like putting too much air in a balloon!
hell yeah a Star Trek episode and an X Men one in 1. perfect. I Friggen LOVE star trek. love its idealistic, hopeful, optimistic view of the future.
Great episode, can't wait for the never coming Magneto vs Kang
I love the tangents that you all go on. Honestly the nerdom makes the episodes even more entertaining. Didnt know about the roger rabbit stuff
I like the Roger rabbit conversation
Instead of just commenting how about we all share this one and see if we can get the guys some well deserved views for taking a risk on a fun crossover book!
Sal- "Oh boy! Were doing a Star trek/ z-men cross-over book. I have the perfect excuse to wear it!"
Tiffany- "Theres no corilation, you have no excuses, just wear the damn Maxx shirt and let me sleep in for 5 more minutes"
I'm gonna be honest, I know jack shit about star trek, I just love you guys banter
This is one of my first comics, I got it from my, at the time, new uncle alongside a bunch of random Hellboy and Batman graphic novels. I never saw Stark Trek and had never heard of the Shi'ar. I'm not sure how Sal stores fandom knowledge comics, Star Trek, Star Wars, and cinema... AND literature since he taught English. Oh and the franchise lore of Alien, Predator, AND Terminator.
I still hold my fingers for maybe an eventual episode(s) of the IDW Ghostbusters run too.
Jason guest-starring Back Issues episodes always lead to tangents and have a different vibe, which honestly reminds me of TVLittleHouse era Back Issues. I've found myself saying aloud "Oh cool a Jason episode" the last few times they showed up in my feed
The tangents in this episode have got to be some of my all time favorites
I haven't seen anything of Star Trek, so I am out of the loop for most of these tangents. And yet I will gleefully watch hours of these guys talk about Stark Trek just because they're having a blast!
goddang it sal, wesley the white i'm freaking flywheel the red from coughing so hard when you laugh into a strange hacking cough because it just came on so suddenly

I know it’s rare but every Star Trek episode is a thing of gold!
All part of Kang the Conquerors plans!
Lilandra's "hair" is feathers, but it's rarely drawn in a way that makes that obvious. And Deathbird is a "genetic throwback" with actual wings. Of course, Sal is correct in that she also frequently wears capes and the like with feathers on them.
Love the shirt, Sal!
A perfect episode for us in the Discord server! We've been discussing Trek pretty frequently. I'm fairly new to Trek and have a lot of questions!
This is such a fun episode, I love it when Comic Pop talks Star Trek!
You better upload that 20-minute tangent about movies in Star trek.
I was not expecting to learn all the secrets to Roger Rabbit I never wanted to learn with this episode, but I'm happier for it!
Yay x-men and Star Trek sign me up because their sounds really awesome and tons of fun.
The Tangents of the past few episodes have been some of my favourites. Hell, back issues in general has been on fire lately
I've never clicked on a video fast enough. I LOVED these crossovers ever since they came out, and I was waiting for the day you guys would cover this, and it's FINALLY come! O o o o o extra nerdy I LOVE IT!
love it when jason is on the show. i’m not pining for more cast members but he’s a good addition
Been waiting all for this episode
I didn't understand like 40% of what was talked about this episode and yet it was still hilarious
The fact we can have Spock and Xavier in the same room would be interesting to say the least
I really want to see that 20-minute tangent 😂
I was waiting for you all to cover this
So excited for this episode. It looks like a blast!
Is it just me or was Sal extra savage today 😂😂😂😂😂 should've read that book from the wheelchair guy🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm dying ❤ Love you guys
Always a good time when Jason’s on the couch
Hope they do the other Star Trek crossover where The OG crew meets the Transformers.
Ethan killed this episode, nearly every thing he said broke me with laughter
Never been the biggest Star Trek fan but I absolutely loved this it was a really fun listen!
This is an all-time great episode
Sals the Maxx shirt leaves me wanting more.
I have the issue of Star Fleet Academy that's entirely in Klingon.
It's the Gorn Hegemony. At least the last I checked it was.
Funny you guys talk about Paramount wanting to close. It was just announced that Paramount's TV arm is shutting down.
Hey Sal, I'm gonna need that twenty minute tangent.
🙌🏾 I have this one...somewhere...mmmm...nostalgia 😆
Yes! Gotta love when Trek is on the couch!
Killer episode!!!!
Long have I waited for this day
Great episode!
Sal is on Fire! Awesome episode.
I'm gonna be that guy... Sal the Shiar are humanoid and not humans. The feathers and claws and wings are not a design choice. They indeed evolved from birds. Much like homo sapiens of Earth descended from apelike ancestors, the Shiar are of avian ancestry.
No need to be that guy.
I stop looking after reading a few dozen comments, but...

Jason episode AND a bonkers crossover?! This is why I’m here!
This is one of the weirdest yet most amusing franchise crossovers I have read, hope the you guys also do the one where The Next Generation 😅
Here to give some early support. Love episodes like this one.
Isn't a shi'ar bird just the phoniex lol
It's weird because the late 90s was the peak of my X-Men obsession and my Star Trek obsession, and I remember seeing the advertisements for this book and just thinking "no, not interested." Who was the target audience if not me lol.
I remember this crossover. I hope you guys do the Next Generation crossover in the future.
Oh my goodness, I had no idea these existed. 😂😂😂
X-Men travel to the future were the mutant problem has been solved for good.
I've mevee seen one second of any Star Trek. Only seem memes and clips. But its Back Issues, so I'm on board. PLUS, we've returned to the Universe where Jason's the 3rd man😁
This is a GREAT episode
The crossover novel mentions the resemblance between Picard and Professor X --years before the first X-Men movie...
I went to Steel City Con one year for my buddy's comic store and William Shatner was there as a guest, but he was in a, like, plastic box the whole time. He had left early though so it was just an empty box with a chair in it.
Great episode folks! I kinda want to hear the 20 minute tangent now.
Hit like within the first 9 min for the Roger Rabbit and Mirror Universe tangents
I almost didn’t recognize Ben
The Goated with the Sauce boys add another boy??? That’s goated
Jason has hosted a few episodes, he's mainly on starwars episodes, he also was a guest on a terminator book.
Yes! Someone else noticed Vulcan's are space elves.
INTJ- he also comes back in star trek prodigy lol
Wesley and the technicolor star fleet shirt
Always nice to see Jason on the couch! Less nice to see those bone claws in the background, never a good sign.
