Hello Everyone! Thanks for watching. Someone mentioned water soluble oils. My opinion of them is that I still prefer acrylics because they dry quickly, even with the glazing liquid or retarder added. Water soluble oils take weeks to dry! I find that using the acrylic mediums mentioned in my video gives my paints flexibility that I prefer. Always a joy to watch you Kathleen!!! You're glazing technique is what sets you apart from other artists! Your flowers are so beautiful but your backgrounds is what made me want to take your courses❤
Thanks Cody! Yes, I have been asked numerous times to create a course on backgrounds only! LOL But you know I work back and forth constantly between the background and foreground to keep them integrated as a complete painting. Lots and lots of blending of edges is one way I achieve a soft look in my work.
Thank you. If you enjoy my content, please consider taking one of my courses to help support my work and offset the cost of offering more content like this.
Hello Kathleen.. another WOW MOMENT for me.. as I’m working on my blue hydrangea from your class.. I loved that you showed your palette.. hopefully you’ll do a video adding the high lites. The negative stain really makes the flowers pop.. Thank-you, Dorothy
Hi there! Thank you for your comment. I didn't know you were enrolled in my hydrangea course....thanks for that. YES, you will definitely see me add highlights in all 3 hydrangea demos. Just FYI, I do recommend that students watch the demos from start to finish before painting so that you can get an idea of the whole painting and what each step will be about. I think it's more helpful that way. Would love to see you post in the private Facebook group (if you'd like). All my best, have a great weekend.
Dear Kathleen, Thank you so much for your inspiring and useful video!❤ You know, there are water mixable oil paints available now, so you can enjoy all oil paints benefits with no smell and using just a water for diluting)
Yes! I should have addressed water soluble oils. My opinion of them is that I still prefer acrylics because they dry quickly, even with the glazing liquid or retarder added. Thank you for your tips. :) I have started using Golden Glazing Liquid medium, Satin. Do you prefer Gloss or Satin? Perhaps Gloss make the painting look more like oil? Do you use Glazing (or retarder) over all your painting? ☺(Excuse my English, I am Scandinavian.)
I believe I have gloss medium, but I don't think it works differently than satin medium with regard to being able to blend colors like oil paints. It just has more of a glossy finish when dry, but I varnish all of my paintings afterward anyway, so they end up having a uniform surface. Regarding retarder or glazing liquid, I mix it into most of my paint because I do like that it makes the paint easier to spread and work with and it helps my paint to stay workable longer. Thanks for your questions!
