Hi everyone! I'm pushing for 1,000 subs here in 2019. If you liked the video, I'd appreciate the consideration of subbing. I know you don't have to...which is why I'd be honored :)

The reason why nvidia tablet is slow is due to a very very slow internal storage (even SD-card performance is lacking), I don't think this was very apparent in 2014 when apps were smaller, better contained and had far less aggressive background processes. If you do an antutu benchmark and compare the device to mid-range phones, you realize that they often have 3x the internal storage performance. To be honest I'm thinking of turning mine into a offline video- & emulation device. :) Let it do what it is best at. ;)

I'm not a heavy gamer. I just play the cutsy tutsy games, or word games. I bought this tablet because I wanted something light and compact when I'm on the go.
I bought this one because I figured if this was built for heavy gamers it will handle the nonsense I'll ask it to do without a problem. And it has. I did buy the stylus.
There is only one thing I've ever asked it to do that it's complained about. And it may be because I have to adjust something in the settings.
If I want to use it with my chromecast it sputters. If I try to use my HDMI, I'll get picture with no sound, or sound and no picture.
But that may be ignorance on my end.
It's a fun tablet. I enjoy it. I just found out a few days ago, it can do split screen on some applications. I did not know that when I bought it.

Sad how Nvidia and Nintendo partnership forced Nvidia to stopped making their own products instead of focusing on Nintendo products.

    • @LuciferCrowOfficial

True! I enjoyed Nvidia's flagship mobile devices, but it was a logical choice to cease production on devices targeted for "elite" PC gamers and market their devices on a gaming industrial giant like Nintendo. It sells way more than the "select few" as I like to call us PC gamers 😁.

So it was the partnership that made Nvidia drop support and stop making tablets?? I never knew this. I was absolutely pissed when the pulled support for it completely though. They could have stopped making them but still kept updates rolling out for the folks that did buy their tablet. Nvidia's last official update left the tablet in such a mess. I had no choice but to root it and load up a custom rom.

The Shield K1 was my favorite tablet until the latest update killed it. It is now barely unusable, its very slow, battery drains almost 1-2% per minute and it gets very hot, also won't charge while connected. I'm gonna follow your recommendations on the factory reset and disable notifications. Nice video though.

Make sure you are using a good usb cord with a usb charger that works. I'm using a 9w Amazon charger that was specifically used for my fire stick tv but with that it barely holds a charge while I'm playing a game. I have to let it go for it to even charge. I have the official Nivida Shield tablet charger with the multi region plug and that doesn't work at all with it now. After updates or whatever the battery definitely has gotten worse. Overheating of the battery also causes slowdowns and lag.

I still use my K1 today (Nov 2022) primarily as a TV box (with a wireless keyboard & mouse, plugged into my TV via the Mini HDMI port, and linked to my Technics SU-600 Integrated amp and 4 mid range Sony bookshelf speakers. Now, about 6 months a go I noticed the back case popping off (yup 'Spicy' battery time), so, I searched for a battery replacement (and yes new batteries are still available and videos are around that show you how), but, I went an alternate route.. a direct wired to a high power USB charge brick route. And yes, it IS possible, and YES it has worked FLAWLESSLY since. Basically, I've turned my K1 into a form of Shield TV... The ONLY thing that i'm getting a bit miffed at is that 2Gb RAM size, every other app I use works extremely well still, but the Disney+ app, semi regularly crashes, and is VERY slow sometimes (I'm guessing it's a sizeable app and thus takes a lot of RAM up while running)...

Shield Tablet k1: I haven't done a hard factory reset, just turning the notifications off and stopping background data helps significantly. I have also gone through all my apps and narrowed down what I have installed just to apps I use most. If you can avoid resetting I would recommend go through all your processes first. I like the ST-k1 because I bought it for $200 while still available. You really wouldn't find a tablet with this much graphic power for that price when it came out. I would not spend more than $200 for one today and an amazing aspect of buying my ST-k1 when I did is that the tablet has only appreciated in value over time. From the last time I checked: a used ST-k1, like the one I own, goes for around $400 dollars; a like new or NEW ST-k1 could run you as much as $600 these days but good luck finding one. If I sold my ST-k1 today I might make twice what I paid for it. Three years and still powering along, I could not part with this device. There is definitely a reason Nintendo sought exclusivity rights for Shield tablet production. Nvidia, get your contracts back from Nintendo and release gen-3.

I also found that setting your screen animations to .5 in developer options for all 3 settings that give the option also helps a lot after stopping all notifications, that's what your smartphone is for. Glad I bought it the (K1 $199) version. I also have the Nvidia shield pro. Honestly sometime I forget I have a PS4, PS3, and even a Few PC'S thanks to Samsung DeX! I really don't understand why Nvidia made such a small battery. My battery is still good....it just takes time to fully, but will discharge in 5 hours with regular used. My only concern is they won't do more android updates. The last security update for me was Jan 2018. If they did make a larger battery I would install it. It's not as hard as you think. Great video! Plus, they don't have any cables that will allow you to charge it while other devices are connected. Under developer options you can't even select charge. Most times it goes straight to MTU or MTP mode....hope I said that correctly.

Thanks for the fix lag tips, I felt the same issue yesterday but thanks to your tips my tablet run great now, I'm even thinking to upgrade it to Oero. I used to have a Nexus 7 tablet (easily the best gadget I've ever had). It was a pleasure to use. Beatifuly designed, responsive, lightweigth, good battery life. A real joy to hold in your hand. Then the gyroscope broke and though I tried to fix it, I couldn't. I searched for a replacement and found the Nvidia Shield K1 to be the "heir" of the nexus7 (similar price and size, considered to have the best screen and graphics processor around...). Everything about it looked neat. Then the lag problem appeared. I still don't understand how I tablet with such a powerful hardware (in theory) came to be that a pain in the ass to use. I've missed my old nexus 7 every single day I've had the nvidia shield. I also recommend if you're planning on playing on of those console port heavy native games like , half life, doom, borderlands, GTA San Andreas then I recommend you move those apps to the internal storage Because even with the fastest micro SD card, you will still get lag and you will achieve the best performance on the internal storage.

If anyone wants to take this tablet, then do NOT take the original controller of 2015! Do not take! If there is an option to take only a tablet without a gamepad - TAKE, but do not take it with a gamepad! Do not overpay.
Better look at Dualshock 4, Xbox One controller, SHIELD Controller 2017 or something else, but do not take this tablet with SHIELD Controller 2015.
And why? Because SHIELD Controller 2015 has a proprietary connection via Wi-Fi direct ... As a result, SHIELD TV, Tablet and Portable can be connected to it, provided that they have a special plug installed, and if there is none (and on custom firmware no), then you do not connect this controller to your SHIELD device ... Yes, in general, except for SHIELD, it is not possible to connect it to anything ... And you can connect to a PC only by wired method ... It is better to use SHIELD Controller 2017 and other bluetooth controllers which can be connected to anything that has a bluetooth receiver.

Mine last 3+hours, but its still on 5.1.1 on a debloated ROM, and whatever's left, if I don't need it, is disable, even GMail. Also I don't use social apps or the likes on it. Only games. So mine doesn't really lag all that much, is rare. The Shield lag is a mix of everything BUT the GPU. GPU on Tegra is a best. But its basic CPU could be better. It's really not that good for multitask, nor is RAM. So it struggle with background process. My dream tablet would've used a costume one, preferably a Qualcomm Snapdragon but with the Tegra GPU part. Samsung's RAM and storage. Man I really really wanted a Shield Tablet 2 (X1?)

I noticed that if I use a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse with the Nvidia tablet, it will lag if I push buttons on both the keyboard and mouse. If I use the mouse and stop and wait then use the keyboard or vice versa, it works fine.
So if I play Fortnite and try to use the mouse and keyboard simultaneously to maneuver, it lags/stops responding. Any reason why this happens?

For me and many other people I suggested about mobile OS issues, the veredict is the same: Uninstall (Yes, UNINSTALL) all Facebook's apps (Facebook itself, Messenger, Instagram, Contact sync, Calendar Sync... EVERYTHING Facebook related). Not only performance and smoothness of the system itself, but background data usage drops significantly and - the most important when we talk about mobile devices - increases battery life (even for a shitty one). The tracking and caching mechanisms they put in their apps is like a cancer - they manage to do this even worse than Google :P
Personally I use none of Facebook's platforms but for my family, friends, work/college people, whatever..., I do this thing and they absolutely got amazed with the results in the medium/long term, especially with the battery one.
    Give it a shot!
