Saw Bon Jovi in NC and everyone i was with was like, The guitar player is Insane! It was a good show but Phil looked like a 23 year old playing with a nursing home crew
Interesting to hear others feel the same. Bjovi has been a cash machine in service of one mans ego for decades. New Jersey was one of my first fav records....the work since has been tired and worn out copies of a copy. Phil’s making more cash than he ever will again so I guess you gotta respect the work ethic even if the music is vanilla.
Everytime I see Phil X with friends playing guitar in an interview he always blows their minds and mine. Such a phenomenal player. Pete is just solid as a rock. He is the standard for quality and being professional. Two of the best players to pick up a guitar.
I'm all snuggled up in a blanket with my fav headphones on watching this like a kid during bedtime stories. Boss kinda looking at me weird, but whatever, they need to mind their own business.
19:00 Never before in my life have I seen Pete Thorn blush, rub his temples, and laugh nervously. I've seen Pete play all kinds of music with all sorts of people. Never heard him giggle like a little girl before. There was so much coolness and so much unbridled talent in this video; it was a joy to watch.
No matter how good I get, there are a lot of people who are better lol. But no one plays like I do except me. Play with emotion and you'll always sound unique, because your emotions are unique to you.
@@marks8437 I'm late to the party here but the last line of your response is some of the greatest words to live by when learning and just playing guitar.
Phil and Pete = Two more completely legit reasons why I'm so proud to be Canadian! Thanks for the coolest lessons on how to step outside the (pentatonic) box AND awesome faux whammy bar tricks. My guitar loves yahs for it!
I love that for as accomplished as Pete is, there's still the willingness to say "I'm gonna come back to this lick" just like we all have to sometimes.
Pete Thorn : my favourite guitarist of all time. And I'm over 50 and grew up learning Eddy , Randy , Gary R. , Neil G. , Gary M. , Ted N. , etc. Pete just sums up all my heroes. 🎸🎸🎸🎸
Pete, this is so inspiring! You are! I really apreciate the fact you are not affraid of showing you are not 'perfect' and are open to learn from guys like PX. We are all human. This motivates so much, thanks man!
it's good when you get two real good guitar players together to get the real chops and what it is to lite up the fret board. Phil X is awesome . He is a Toronto Tonto's and Pete is a Edmonton Eskimo. Both Canadian Boy's Kicken Ass in L.A. Take no Prisoners Guys. We are Proud of our Canadian Boys. The Boys are Back In Town Again .Rock On Guys. Keep up the good work
My brother introduced me to Phil X at NAMM last year and he is a genuine down to earth badass! Went to a little bar to hear killer guitarists that night and met Pete Thorn as well. Great people to their fans, no wonder they are successful. Thanks from a novice guitarist and seasoned fan.
First time I met Phil, was back in 85/86, in a local guitar shop here in Kitchener ON. East End Music. Saw him play many, many times with his first band Sidinex. Also saw his (I believe last) show with that band, after their singer left, and Phil took over vox duties, when they changed their name to Flip City (if my memory serves). Always such a great, chill, down to earth dude.
I really like how you two mesh, that's basically how most best friends are together and they compliment each other. Very cool to watch and no, I didn't skip the intro! He has some interesting technique, but that one bend where it sounds like he's playing a spring... Insane! I think his AC/DC mentality and Angus approach really lends itself to that technique. Bend with his fingers and whipping the neck quickly is interesting to hear! I've never thought about it until just now, but now I am going to break some strings. I really think you guys could really play anything while talking about technique and it'll have people going to grab their guitars to mimic these unique things. Guys, thanks for doing another one! 🙏👍🏼
Despite there is a lot less people coming and going at this years GuitCon, the videos being made are so well produced. Hats off to the production crew. Great video Pete and Phil.
You two guys are righteous i love both of these two times you had the incredible Phil X on with you Pete. I love that both of you loved King Edward of all the greats he truly did magical iconic ground breaking things for not only guitar but music period. Thanks guys you both are incredible players and so refreshing to see. ❤️💚🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸👑👑🤺🤺🎵🎵🎶🎶🎼🎼
Two awesome guitarists share fun tips! One of my guitar teachers told me about you guys, and Suhr and now my Suhr is my favorite axe in my guitar collection. Great to see the Suhr. Love it!
Great discussion about actually playing music. Thank you! I sometimes forget that after all these years of playing, I still need to put lots of attitude into my performance and really have fun playing for people.
What a great video! Happily, it was good to hear these guys talking about attitude rather than a million notes! I am no shredder, never will be, but taking a note and squeezing every last piece of crap out of it is the only way I can play!
Pete big fan of Phil X the dude has paid his dues as they say and the piece you did with him was great, good job! The thing I saw was two very talented guitar players talking shop and swapping some licks, how about for a future show you invite an intermediate player to come on and have him or her ask you questions and your guest about becoming a better player. I would of loved to hear Phil explain how he remembers all those licks to all the songs he plays, that is a vast catalog, I can't comprehend how you guys recall all those songs at a moments notice or how a player can tell if he is good enough to look into session work as opposed to doing the band thing first etc, etc, etc, Thanks, for the great interview with Phil Xenidis.
Yeah what I love about Phil is he just goes for it! All out ...no fear. I love when he tries something and goes "wait"..tries again..."wait" ...tries again and nails it with some special sauce on the whole lick. His emotion and love for playing comes across to the audience. I get no one wants to make a mistake and be perfect but really??? Its Fkn ROCK man!
You know, if I didn't know any better, you guys really do seem like brothers, good vibes from this vid, thanks Pete and Phil, always learn something great!
That SG style guitar is SO bad ass. What a gorgeous paint job and the inlay is the cherry on top. I also really like single pickup guitars like Phil - maybe its a Greek thing.
Is it bad that the thing I get most out of this video is that even PhilX, while playing a lick, says, "Wait!" and starts over and that it makes me feel better about myself? LoL. (Of course he does it at a much higher level than I.)
Good ol Canadian boys ehh... lol.. " The sault" ... ahhh yep....... Met Phil at Ontario Place. I was with somebody he knows from high school... Michael K .... good guy..
A good buddy of mine that owns a music store in my town in Florida played with Frozen Ghost as well. Around 1987 I believe. Johnny Gargano. I didn’t know Phil also played with them. Awesome! Cool video! Really enjoyed the conversation between you and Phil. Thanks Pete!
It was really great from me to hear another player talking about making mistakes and taking 3 songs to forget about the mistake you made, I thought i was a freak! :)
You guys are hysterical! LAST YEAR...you guys did a video and talked about your mutual appreciation of 9.5 gauge strings. I had ALWAYS made fun of them, but you guys are...well...YOU GUYS! So I decided to try them because I have been wavering between 9s and 10s for YEARS! And I LOVE THEM! So I'm dying at you guys being like, "I use 9.5s!" "ME TOO!!!" 😂
Randy Willcox yea man nyxl 9.5’s have been my shit for a while now. 9 are too slinky and 10’s are a little more difficult for me to play faster stuff up the neck. Love the 9.5’s 🤘
Watching Phil in Bon Jovi is like watching a Ferrari being used as a milk truck

couldnt agree more. I know Phil does it to get some cash and fair play to him, but boy what a player he is!
You just described the coolest milk truck ever! :)
theonlyredspecial ; maybe more than the cash but the exposure is insane! Bjovi probably sells out everywhere they go.
Everytime I see Phil X with friends playing guitar in an interview he always blows their minds and mine. Such a phenomenal player. Pete is just solid as a rock. He is the standard for quality and being professional. Two of the best players to pick up a guitar.
"To get to the licks, skip to 15:00!" Now, why would i do that? Its all good content. Great video Pete and Phil.
Hey I know you... ;)

2 super cool talented dudes just being real. Videos like this are why I love RUclips.
I love how they are both vibing and at the same time trying to top each other out in a cool manner.
This video is like sitting down to a one-on-one Master Class with Phil X & Pete Thorn about how to be a professional player. Thank you very much guys!
Wish this video was about 92 hours long. I'd watch it every day.
Well actually if it were 92 hours long it would take several days to watch. Just sayin.
@@9eyeh8chu9 No, you got your math completely wrong. 92 hours is only 132 seconds, actually. Just thought you ought to know.

LOVE this video. Please do more vids together. The Pete & Phil show has a nice ring to it.
Two Canadian lads playing my fave Eagles track. Still remember the first time the needle hit that track on my mom's turntable.
That was great!
Ahem, hey..."Management:"
No apologies needed, the "quality" was the guests!
Loved every minute.
I got my 3 week old baby girl in my arms and we watched this entire movie! I think she like guitar! Y’all rock.
Great meeting, I needed 50 years to find the Ernie Ball 9,5 to 44 and I love this set, nothing else.
Right on! Us Canadians gotta hang every once in a while. You guys rock🍻
I could watch these 2 dudes for hours.
So much fun, i love Phil's warm-ups. It's much easier to spend time on practice runs that make you laugh because you're having fun.

Having jammed with Phil X,many times, I can truthfully say he is just as fun as he appears to be. A genuinely fun guy
A great reason to tune into GuitCon 2019, the Pete and Phil Show - Part 3 🤘

Thank you Phil and Pete. This was so great, hope you get together for more!
This could easily become a video series. The banter is great.
I could watch this all day guys. Pete and Phil are the best around today representing rock!
it’s like having a proper twin guitar team for all the times phil had to use a looper back in the frettedamericana days! i luv it

@23:33 "I play for the song." EVERY musician should have this drilled into their brains !
yup this is why rhythm guitarists are most under rated part of the band sadly.
