    I am glad to see you uploaded another vid . its deceptive people looking at what you are doing maybe thinking that it is mostly Rocks under that brush and to have to trim it back, also not trip over those rocks ( some possibly loose) that you cannot see under that brush would be a little challenging is the person doing it slips and falls it and needs some attendance from emergency say for stitches or something it could take a while to et back to the radio to call . Spring, summer less rain on the coast probably a lot of Marine wildlife and animals coming out I seem to remember a picture or something about wolves on site that's cool being its late spring I wonder how their mating season went .
    after the clearing of brush it looks much better also fewer bugs and little things that can hide and move under that brush ;).
    I also am wondering how your adjustment went from being around people to just being around a person or two, does the heart flutter a little when incoming mail and deliveries flies in, I am sure mine would .
    On a side note a little bit of a coincidence I was let go a few weeks back from work which is ok ,then yesterday I accidentally stumble on the site that shows the Assistant Lightkeeper job posting, I was excited, then went through the process but could find the link went int o the chat the person on the other end was patient enough we both discovered after about 1/2 hour that the job was closed, even though the deadline showed open until Dec 2024. I was a little down but also a little happy that I actually found the site, I had stopped searching a few months back , then to stumble by total fluke accident well was a relief . This morning you put up a new video, and also seemed to catch up on your previous videos reply to people posting on your videos ,part of me wants to think that it's a sign from the universe saying dont give up on getting this job hehe
    I am also curious how many new models you have built since our last video through those rainy months, also how it is going after becoming a Lightkeeper and not an Assistant Lightkeeper.
    I am going to go back to the site and investigate a little more to see how I can prepare if and when the job becomes open once again.

      Lots to unpack here, haha. So about a decade ago I lived in Hong Kong for several years, in an area that had next to no english around. It is like being isolated in a crowd. I had no issues dealing with it and since I also worked alone in a warehouse, occassionally I would go a week or more without speaking a word. All good for me.
      There was an overwhelming response to the online ad for the lightkeeper position from what I hear but honestly, I am just a tiny cog in a giant machine and all the ins and outs of the office are way beyond my pay grade. I have no say in how they do things and even less information about what is happening within the belly of the Coast Guard beast. All I can say is keep an eye out for new information, keep tabs on contacts you may have made already and just be persistant. It sucks that it is so difficult to find any information, I know, especially when so many other parts of the Coast Guard are easy to find. No one seems to know why lightkeeper info is so secretitive. It is like it is some underground club or something.
      You can always check out my other channel, Scale Auto Garage to see what I am building, always have a project on the go and as for being principal, I have been for a few years now, in job only, not really title. Responsibility is higher but the work is pretty much the same.

      I really appreciate the comment. It is very satisfying to know that my work is enjoyed by others.
      There is a lot of excess when it comes to clippings and trimmings. We have a 'dumping area' just off to the side of the station. It doesn't take too long for grass and other debris to end up as dirt.

    • @terenceseymour-tf8rptassie725
      @terenceseymour-tf8rptassie725 2 месяца назад

      your dumping station is of course just like any home compost system.
      To dump it into the ocean should be a definite no no
      If you had a lot of green waste perhaps it could be used to generate energy

    • @stanpatterson5033
      @stanpatterson5033 2 месяца назад +1

      Alternately, would The Crown permit a burn-barrel idea, where you let the clippings dry for a while, then burn them in a burn barrel perhaps on the helipad? A bit more work dragging the clippings that far, I'd imagine.

    • @BCLighthouseKeeper
      @BCLighthouseKeeper  2 месяца назад +1

      @@stanpatterson5033 there is a fair amount of rules regarding burning. As we are surrounded by dense forest, it is a real fire hazard and believe me, the amount of clippings is a lot more than a barrel! 🤣 There are lots of piles of old grass, tree limbs and branches and what not all around the station. It is a challenge to keep it all clean and organized for certain.

    Would the weeds be a problem if there was not a lighthouse and human habitation on the island?
    Re the weeds dumped into the water do they provide food for marine organisms thus not being a negative impact on the environment ?
    If there was a huge amount dropped into the sea they might have the same effect as dumping runbish into a landfill area on land - but in small quantities might be okay

    • @BCLighthouseKeeper
      @BCLighthouseKeeper  2 месяца назад

      The forest around the station is quite dense and really does not reflect the vegitation around the station. The area was cleared out in the early 1900s and who knows when the berries and grass were introduced to the area but more than likey they were human introduced at some point.
      Unsure of how much green would end up as food or other sustenance for marine life. Clippings do eventually rot and decompose into soil but it takes time for that to happen as well.
      I think what may be difficult to comprehend is the actual number of people in this area and the enviromental impact. With only 2 people and acres and acres of land and forest, the actual impact is quite minimal. Now I am no enviromental engineer so I have zero authority in anything so you would have to take my words with a pretty big grain of salt. Most garbage and debris is removed from station on a regular basis. Burnables are incinerated and ashes are always returned to base to be disposed of properly. There is a lot of effort to keep as enviromentally friendly as possible.

      In my original post I said dumping any plant material into the sea is a no no but then I noted you did say a small amount is dropped into the sea
      Thats why I was asking about the environmental affects on marine life
      green waste piles on the land would definitely breakdown into the soil and be beneficial.
