I just seen this video and the first thing that popped in my head with the rock, in the desert animals hide under rocks to keep cool. Maybe this human seen this rock and thought I bet if he built a lean to shack under this rock it would be cooler than a shack out in the open. Was there a temp change??
I've been binge watching this channel after work for 3 days now. I can't stop. I just want to quit my job, sell my house, and move out to the desert and explore abandoned places.
I love these videos and love that you are a father & daughter team spending quality time exploring together. This would totally have been something my dad and I would do together if he were still alive. ❤
For climate control purposes being under that rock would be awesome placement for the cabin! The geothermal properties of the rock would absorb the heat during the day keeping it cool and release it during the night keeping it warmer. Really cool!

Living in England as I do you don't come across many remote or abandoned places, i did once stay in a remote holiday cottage (former farmer's home) in Scotland which was lovely. Originally compromised of just two rooms it had an outside toilet and a bath at the bottom of the garden looking out over a valley and using underground heat sources to heat the water. It worked really well and had fantastic views. When I got used to it and my fear of being seen, after three days, I finally had a proper bath; as in a naked one!
I lived in the mining town Tonopah, Nevada for a few years. The patina on the wood there is identical to the wood in this video. The shacks in Tonopah are 100 years old plus so this is most likely an old mining homestead from many years ago.
my question is why do you not carry any camping equipment with you so that if it does get late like in this video you can camp out for the night an continue exploring the area the next morning. I think that would make for a great exploration video. maybe in the future?

You might find who owned that land back in the old days. The little shack may have been for chickens -- Winter time the water well may have been filled with water.

This is the best most positive content on RUclips . Take it from someone who has been stuck in the middle of no where it takes real guts to keep coming back . Keep up the great videos 👍🏻
This is the most awesome place. I noticed there was a metal stake with a ring on top of it to tether an animal to in between those two buildings and it was likely housed in that smaller shack, probably a goat or cow, so they could get fresh milk maybe? I think that hatch that led to the rock was used for cold storage as the rock would help to keep the temperature down. Just a thought. Love this place.
Karen Johansen, You're probably right Karen, I didn't think about the metal steak being used to tether an animal. I also agree the hatch was probably used to keep something cold or ventilation. 🙂
I wish I could live out west for a couple years just so I could express all the strange but beautiful landscapes. I've lived in Vermont all my 62 years. Drove out west one summer in late 80's and loved it. The wide open spaces, the red colored rocks, old NativecAmerican structures.
You're right, I should go back with some orange spray paint and markers to prevent anyone from falling in. I will try to get out there asap. 🙂👍 You actually made me realize that I should start carrying some with my as part of my gear for when I come across stuff like this.
Explore With Us - Couple small warning signs would be a good idea, though I would suggest spray painting the warning message on some scrap wood/plywood vs spray painting directly on the structures/the landscape(?)
WJK, Yeah, that's what I was thinking, marking it with a few small flags (the construction flags) or bringing a small piece of plywood to paint (danger) on. I guess some people like James thinks it's fun to fall 30 feet into a cistern, or having your kids fall in.
You should have covered the hole least not for any wild animals having the bad luck to fall in. There was plenty of old wood lying around that would do the job. Apart from that, great video !!!
Excellent find, and _so strange._ Amazing that the original owners found it, mined it - and somehow also managed to make their way to civilization how ever often for supplies. They could have opted for a much cushier lifestyle. Did you get a chance for even a cursory look at the mine to see if it's worth a return visit?
I agree, I always wonder how they find these places, crazy. I do plan on going back to the mine tunnels now that I know the right way to get there. I took a bunch of wrong turns on the way (I should have filmed it, but many times I don't know how much you all want to see), so now I will go back the right way and explore the mine tunnels. 🙂
You could always do a compilation bloopers sort of video. These usually appear so effortless, like you just drove straight there. You could do a Bass Camp wrong-turn dead-end 1, 2, 3, 4 and just keep it brief. I think a lot of people would probably like to see the real effort you go through to locate these places, and even getting back out. Home at 3am! Woot!
That hole in the ground is called a cistern, a common feature in remote arid homesteads. Water is life out there and if there is no viable well water or other water source then capturing and storing rainwater is the only option. Someone below thought it might be a cowboy's line shack and I'd agree. The amount of work and expense to haul out that much cement and pour that cistern tells us that this place was intended to be used for an extended period. Appreciate the video.
The desert is amazing, cows and '90s, SN95, 6 cylinder Mustang, no GT badging on the fender, how do cows survive out in that heat? No pasture land, what could they possibly eat out there? Are these abanded cows?
It seems like Bass Camp is a big destination for ATV folks out around that way. It also looks like there is a cover for that cistern somewhere in the area, but some dingleberry removed it and didn't replace it. As it stands, it would make an interesting start to a fallout shelter or underground cache (you would have to disguise it and make it waterproof, first). Except that everyone knows about it, so it would eventually be found. Still, a very interesting and amazing place. And in great shape, given it's public nature. It seems to me that the further one gets from Carson City - Reno - Sparks, the better the condition of abandoned places and their relics. I guess the Idiot Patrol doesn't much venture past the "24-pack of Shitty Beer" Range. Which is good for us.
If the car had hit a cow the front bumper would show damage but it doesn't. The cows did not damage and remove the passenger side fender, that's not what cows do but they may have broken the hanging mirror on drivers side. The drone footage of the distant landscape was 'world class'.
I reality like to see the Arizona scenery, specially the drone shots. We dont have deserts in here Finland so its really exotic for me to see it, also all those beatifull mountain ranges on the horizon are beatifull.
Hi Explore. Really love the videos. Was wondering if you guys have plans to add an infrared camera to your gear. It would help especially at nite if there are critters or humans lurking about and in the tunnels too. I know they have come down in price over the years. Going now to make a donation to your cause! Best, Zoid.
Watching from Colorado. We have lots of cool trails but no where near the amount of open land to explore like that. Very impressed with your Armada as well. It's spooky, and even scarier when you're out there alone.
Very interesting place. But I'm with you, I might spend a night or two in there but not every night. As soon as you start to feel safe there's an earthquake and it's too late to say 'ooooops'. P.S. very beautiful area. I know I always say that, but it really is. I would love exploring that area.
I barely found yalls channel and im hooked. Thank yall so much for taking us along to those places we'd never ever go to... I cant wait to buy a EWU t shirt to show support!!
Just came acrossed your videos in my You Tube feed. I'm a truck driver and much of my travels are the middle of nowhere Nevada and California deserts. I am always curious what is out in the distances where I can't get to in a tractor trailer or what is in an old abandoned structure I can see in the distance. As you can imagine your videos are fascinating to me.
The small hut was possibly for goats. The small opening with a door was possibly the refrigerator. If you see a hole like that covering it may save a life, there was plenty of stuff to use. Animals could fall in as well. Great Video! Landers Valley California has a place called Giant Rock, it's as big or bigger than this house rock. They have two historic events at this location. In the 1930's a man built a two story building under the Giant Rock. It's still there but they blew it up so people wouldn't get hurt. Above the Rock there was a UFO 🛸 thing that has its own story with relevance to Tesla.
I really enjoyed this video. The first little shack you showed us is called a miners shack. It's primarily used for cleaning and sifting the ore from the mine. Very few miners cleaned there ore in the same shack that they lived in because they used mercury to separate some of there gold and silver deposits. Good job on this video and keep up the good work.
I use to pick up loads there in Gabbs. I forget what the mineral was but I always delivered it to food processing plants so it is used as some kind of filler or preservative. Heavy stuff. Always hated to get them loads because it was 4 hours to the first scale where you could get weighed to see if you were even legal or not. Beautiful lonely place out there. Did enjoy the drive.

Very thrilling and enjoying 👍👌 video.
I've just founded your videos ,and ,they're amazing .
Thanks for sharing them.
Love your videos and your wife and kids are lovely. Lots of fun.!!!!
How do you find these places? I'm so amazed by your videos. I have been watching your videos for the past 6 Ms. I love them all
Whenever you have spare time just browse around on Google Earth. You'll be amazed how many things and pkaces you can find.
I see alot of desert drive shows but you and your family are so warm with so excited about what you do real "ROCK" stars thanks
patrick star used to live there
I Love watching your videos. I LOVE Exploring.
i wish them good luck pressing charges against them cows.
😂 I wish I had my camera ready when I pulled up. Oh well, live and learn. 🙂
If that had been a Chevy, the cattle would have respected it... if it was a Japanese import they would have completely destroyed it!
If the car had hit a cow the front bumper would show damage but it doesn't. The cows did not damage and remove the passenger side fender, that's not what cows do but they may have broken the hanging mirror on drivers side. The drone footage of the distant landscape was 'world class'.
wulff707 I agree. Everything respects Chevy, or at least they should.
Really cool find in the middle of nowhere for sure! Enjoy your videos! Thanks!
I wouldn't stay under that rock for one night. Cool video !
LOL Me either. 🙂
It's not the rock so much it's been there for generations it the room mates that would bunk in lol creepy crawlers 😳
I reality like to see the Arizona scenery, specially the drone shots. We dont have deserts in here Finland so its really exotic for me to see it, also all those beatifull mountain ranges on the horizon are beatifull.
I enjoy the hell out of your video's, well done and interesting, thanks for taking the time to do this...
Jeff Watkins Thank you. :-)
I like the music and the aerial view from your drone of your suv crawling along!

Awesome. When you went through area 51 tunnel my heart was in my throat the whole time.
Wow that car being watched ooo becarful man!!!! Love this video!!!!
Yes that's the State of Nevada desert for ya!
Yeah, I love the Nevada desert! So much public BLM Land! 🙂
C Crutcher My son used to go on long hikes there.

Impressive how you use the drone to follow your rig up the road. Much success to you!
Robin Blue Thank you, how have you been?
Love your videos. Can't wait for the next one.
I just started watch your channel. I am amazed at the places you find.
That is a beautiful place to live peaceful and quiet no crime no no noise no traffic
It's y'all

Perfect house to live in l love it reminds me how peaceful it is awesome footage narrating -SUPER COOL
I feel like I’m with you guys,I love watching those abandon videos..
Awesome great use of the drone makes for an exciting adventure overview.
freewolfable Thank you. :-)
In a twist they continued to better and discover more. Thank you💓💓
Hey there! New to your channel, but thoroughly enjoy sharing in your explorations.
I think it's clever to build under that rock. keeps you cooler during the day compared to the other shack
Man when you opened up that latch and jumped back, I jumped back with you! 😰
Hey you. Haven't looked at your videos in awhile. Just life happening. Hoid to be back with you guys again. Really enjoy watching your adventures.
I had to work at the mine in gabbs the town is so tiny. the people are very nice but what a dive. You guys make great videos.
Are the primary ores gold and silver? I know there are a lot of abandoned gold and silver mines in the area.
Do they make Milk of Magnesia ?
I use to pick up loads there in Gabbs. I forget what the mineral was but I always delivered it to food processing plants so it is used as some kind of filler or preservative. Heavy stuff. Always hated to get them loads because it was 4 hours to the first scale where you could get weighed to see if you were even legal or not. Beautiful lonely place out there. Did enjoy the drive.
found this channel like 2 hours and cant stop watching it oh god haha
that was awesome,,,I was raised in California and never once explored the way y'all do,,,love the house under the rock,,,
When someone asks where you been, under a rock? And you say ya I have been under a rock! 😀
