Sir I'm a beginner badminton player and I treat you as my foremost teacher. I don't have any coach to teach me but I just follow your technic from RUclips and try to do it practically in the badminton cort.
this is a good tutorial with lots of good points, and i like the way it emphasizes a kinetic flow of energy. i have three critical remarks: 1) you mentioned that the kinetic flow starts with hip rotation, but actually it begins from the floor with leg power. it's this energy that rotates upward and is ultimately transferred to the shuttle at the top of the kinetic chain. for an example of this look @1:23 where you lower your weight deeply into your dominant leg to initiate the sequence. i point this out because most players below the advanced level are extremely resistant to using the legs. they usually want it to be easier than that, but they need to understand it's hard work and it's always going to be hard work and that is why we play, because we want to do that work 2) i do not see it taught this way every often, but for me the cleanest transfer of energy with the highest strike point and the deepest and most natural rotation comes from swinging very close to the centerline of my body, rather than off to the dominant side. this is not such a popular technique but i do recommend players at least try it out and observe how it changes their swing, 3) the main problem players below the advanced level have with any of the overhead shots is the failure to move their bodies quickly enough to get behind the shuttle. this is mostly laziness, and it results in the inability to use rotational energy, and therefore poor power, recovery, and a general lack of options. i would say, doing the work to get behind the shuttle is the most important component of clear, smash, or drop, and if you dont want to do this work there is no amount of technique or technical practice that will allow you to have a good overhead shot. so it starts with accepting the hard work of getting your body positioned behind the shuttle every time. only from there can you benefit from the kind of lessons you are teaching here
This is so correct about the lazyness and not engaging the legs enough to be on a better position BEFORE swinging the racket. My contact point was messed up for a very long time by not understanding how important the positioning is and as a result my smash remained weak and too flat.
Again a great video! Thanks for this! As for tip 5, I still recommend always having a slight tension in the abs because that protects the spine and gives you a high initial force, which in turn protects the shoulder.
I would like to add on some pointers for beginners.. Tip 3: body weight initial is at racket leg.. when transiting to Tip 4, move body weight from racket leg to non-racket leg, then hip rotation, and the elbow up and face forward.. etc etc etc.. just my thoughts. Cheers! But I do love ur training and tips..
Brother I guess it's better if you play with single badminton instead of double. You may practice with double badminton, but while playing, make sure you are carrying only one.
I enjoyed that video very much, nice simple instructions. 2 things would make it even better - improve the sound quality and add a slide with a summary of the tips at the end :)
Great video as always! Guys, can you elaborate more on angle of the clear shot - angle for defensive clear and angle of more aggressive clear to put pressure on the opponent?
You can use the same technique for the different strokes, it is the body position and how aggressive you are that matters👌🏻 Of course your hit area changes a bit depending on how much time you have🤩
I think the most important thing is "relax". Most of people never know. They thinks the muscle have to be tight all the time to create power.(And i use to think like that before.) Your arm can move and hit faster when muscle relax.
I love playing badminton but i crashed my motorcycle 2 months ago badly damaging my wrist and lost much athleticism. I might not ever be able to play badminton at a high level again but i still find my self watching training videos and tutorials, even after knowing i might not be able to play like i used to just to feel nostalgic.
Should our wrist be locked in the shot, means the position of the grip and wrist would be the same after the shot in the follow through plase as compared to before hitting the shot or there would be some movement or adjustment in it!?🙏
I have a question, While playing the clear, I sometimes feel a pressure on my neck which causes it to hurt afterwards. I know this must not happen and is probably due to a flawed movement. Have you ever come across this or happen to have a solution for it? I would be thankful And thank you for the video with very clear instructions!
I have been learning badminton for 5 months, but I couldn't hit the shuttle with force, so are there any techniques to hit it forcely, and I'm a little weak too....
I've had this too, but I focussed on getting the right technique. Then I didn't have this issue. You should'nt have pain in your wrist when playing badminton with the right technique. Inform your coach about it and ask how you can counteract the pain with the right technique.
The extra tip at the end was great! I have a follow up question assuming i do all these 5 tips correctly when hitting a clear, i realize male opponents usually hit powerful fast high far clears without seeming to exert as much effort as i do when making a baseline clear is that just do to nature that males are stronger?
@@Amiralbahrami Wow that is impressive! I find a full scissor jump-like rotation is needed to get it to baseline but I've seen some advanced players who can just swing their arm no body rotation and it's there
It really depends on build and technique. I mean its a given that males center of gravity is chest level and females is hip level. Chest center of gravity means you only need to lean back and fall froward while swinging to get alot of power. Hip level means you have to step a certain pattern (back, back, forward, swing, forward) to get the best power which is clearly more work. This is only commonly the case as I too have met some very physically strong female players in my club and one of them is Beiwen Zhang. Just look at those arms and shoulders. Her legs are just insult to injury at that point.
Question: I see your wrist moved (into ulnar deviation). If your wrist is not in a neutral position at the moment of the hit does it still have the power from the forehand rotation?
@@BadmintonFamly Thank you for your reply! But I still see the wrist is bent in the video at 4:55. The pinky side of the hand is bent to the right side. Is that okay? They say it's called ulnar deviation. Sorry for being technical and pedantic but I've been wanting to clear that up for a long time. :) Great video btw, easy to understand, very good for beginners.
Hi Thomas I am playing badminton for close to 10 years. Inspite of playing so long years of badminton, I am unable to master the technic of holding the racket. When I play during warm up, I hold the racket with loose grip. The moment I start playing regular game,, I become so conscious and hold the racket so tight that, When I hit a shot, it does not go with so much power and I experience pain on my shoulder. Please give tips for that.
You need to train more drills where you go from a relaxed arm/wrist to a tightened up wrist/arm where you practise finger power. Then it will be easier to get used to when you play the match. Hope it works💯
When u hit the shuttle your racket comes down first and ur hand is still up. I am bringing my hand down it’s like in one motion .... it’s ok or no. Kindly advice
I think when you hit the shuttle like that, it means you don't use your wrist enough. But correct me if I'm wrong, because I can't see your form without a video :)
sometimes i wonder how aged experienced players with big body looks so simply hitting the shuttle but the shuttle goes all the way to my backcourt, looks so effortless
@@1Flyingfist try it for yourself. 1. Keep both feet firmly on the floor as you try to perform the 1-6 actions. You will have very poor result. Hop as Thomas shows and you'll deliver the energy that is output in your shuttle strike. Aka the kinetic chain.
