This is very accurate. Many people dont understand it and end up with injury such as golf elbow or tennis elbow but this is very accurate i will show this clip to all my friends. Kudos to Coach Tobias. Thank you
One of the best video I've watched to explain the smash rotation! It is just a 6 mins video and you are able to explain 3 key concepts orally and graphically. Excellent work!
This has to be one of the smartest smash videos out there. It can actually help correct basic smash issues like the hips swinging out first and how the back swing is not forced, but passive as part of acceleration.
I love how you demonstrate improper technique (I can also tell it's really hard for you!) to help with debugging. I'm going to record some slow mo footage of my games and try to apply each tip. Thanks again Tobias; you're making the most objective and applicable badminton content on RUclips!!!
I am watching your video while resting for the tennis elbow injury due to wrong technique. I wish I could have seen video before. I hope to recover soon and try doing the right things before start hitting smash again. Thanks a lot for the video. Love the way you described in slow motion. Kudos 👍🏻
Great explanation again, Tobias! Thanks for sharing your very detailed thoughts on technique. You explain and show like no one else. This really resonates with my way of thinking about this. It helps me develop as a trainer, thank you!
I forgot to comment on this one when you first released it, what a great explanation. It's so easy when you hear certain tips to misunderstand or exaggerate certain things. I've definitely made the mistake of trying to over rotate hips and shoulder, it really doesn't help at all. This video points it out really well!
That's very useful insights on proper technique. The overuse of rotation is something I've not spotted and was starting to experiment with. My swing technique being too big I look forward to fix this points. My Inconsistent technique means also sometimes my power come effortless and sometimes it is forced.
Thanks for this AMAZING video, such a deep critical analysis that I think is barely done in any other place online. This is why your videos are the best!
I suggest hold racket, breathing and smash posture for 0.5 seconds and hit with full power. You always should behind the shuttle for this technique. And it is good for wing attack and it helps follow through and get in front court. It really makes damage
Amazing tips, Tobias. I wonder if the first two tips are the reason why my "China Jump" / Jump Out stick smashes often times feel more powerful than my traditional smashes when I am in good position? The jump out prevents the hip rotation (scissor kick) motion, stopping it short and transferring the power up through the arm. I suppose the same thing is happening with my shoulder. Very interesting. Thanks for the videos!
Yes pretty sure that is the reason 👍 having too much time in the rear court can sometimes also lead to that mistakes and many times people hit harder when they have less time after flatter lifts and they are not able to use too much hip and shoulder
Well explained, Thanks CoachTobias. How much strength should we give to shoulder during a smash or is it to be kept passively?. Please give your valuable opinion Coach Tobias. Once again thankyou for the nice informative video.
thanks Tobias! This is great! I wish you would also do a similar video for Smash (but no jump-smash), I'm wondering if scissors kick smash or China-jump smash require similar movement.
Nice videos ... I am learning through your videos ...👍🏻🙂 By the way ... What type of grip you use ..? it always look clean...is there any technique to remove dirt ? 🤔.
1.Very Little hip movement is good to put power in smash 2. Shoulder axis not to far upper body rotation Too much rotatiin will cause loss of power and balance
Another tip: USE YOUR WRIST, i this helped me elevate my smash to the next level. During practice almost only use wrist, you've mastered only using the wrist(3-4 weeks of training) you can start using more shoulder
could you talk about the wrist movements during the swing? I often see that the wirst is ULNAR DEVIATION in the starting position. Also when exactly tighten the grip?
This is very helpful. I have one specific query. I am a right handed player. While holding the racket in the forehand grip and trying to smash, i somehow always tend to point the racket head towards my left which either results in slicing or the shuttle always being hit towards my left. Any suggestions how to correct this ? Should i slightly rotate my wrist and try ?
True, his smashes are fantastic! Great example how to use the body in a perfect way, as he can create so much pre tension with the hip and elbow movement!
Hi Tobias, Is there a rule about where the receiver's and server's partner can stand during the serve in men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles ? Many thanks.
I am new to play, my forearm is always tight and stiff and I am not getting enough power because of this. It's happening unconsciously.. are there any exercises which help to practise to keep the arm loose. thank you.
how can you increase your stroke speed in every shot and how can you increase your racket speed for Example how do i increase the speed of me bringing the racket from down in defensce to up quick for flat shot
@@tobiaswadenka8435 ruclips.net/video/4K2gHhqUiVU/видео.html This is video. In video,1:30 to 1:40 and 5:10 to 5:20 , i dont know exactly what is call look like smash backhand or slice backhand. 3:30 to 3:40 late backhand so clear.
Thank you! It is interesting and usefull indeed. I would like to ask to explain one point: trajectory of the racket blade (z swing). I am 45 years old and learn the flat smash (it is quite strong), but I want to switch to z smash and definitely needs good tips and advises. I tried myself but my smash become not strong and goes every there but not to the aiming point...
Yes as I said something that also helped me a lot and I think you can see it up to a quite high level of players that some turn too much in the shoulder axis
There is nothing like the best racket as it depends on different factors. In the end of this article I summed up some of the most important things about the racket selection: www.tobiaswadenka.com/2020/06/01/how-to-hit-a-powersmash-in-badminton/
@@daemonorops3528 Things that strengthen the back, I think a good basic exercise is the T: lying on the floor face down, arms to the side, thumbs pointing up and then raise your arms by pulling the shoulder blades together. That will help to keep the shoulders in a good position and to balance out all the forward movements that you do for all forehand shots
Why are you not talking about finger power? Almost all the power in a smash comes from pinching your grip at the very last moment you are going to hit the shuttle. You have a relaxed grip and the very moment you swing you also tense your mustle to create what's called finger power or wrist power. All the best pro's use this to get atleast 100kph harder smashes. Adjusting hip, shoulder and backswing are important, but I could have terrible pusture and yet do a very powerful smash because I used finger power.
A lot of people make a mistake of trying to precise time their squeeze, causing inconsistencies. You just have to keep your grip relaxed and let your subconscious do the squeezing for you.
This is very accurate. Many people dont understand it and end up with injury such as golf elbow or tennis elbow but this is very accurate i will show this clip to all my friends. Kudos to Coach Tobias. Thank you

Just a thought, but have you taken a look at Mike Tyson’s hip movements for the power he added into his shots?

Is it possible to get shoulder pain due to repetitive use of strong smash with proper form?
Yes, in the end the smash is a one sided movement. Done too often without proper counter movements it can definitely cause pain
