I've been playing 2 months now, by wathcing your tips and training, i won 2 gold medals last week. Thank you for making video for others. Keep up the good work ❤️🎉🎉🎉
I'll just say that you are not just a good player but also a good teacher of your field covering all aspects of game.Amazing coaching Tobias Keep it up. 😍😍😍
Thank Tobias for showing the difference between doing Elbow movement and Full-arm movement, cuz I have been stucking at this stage soooo long. I really appreciate your explanation in detail.
It’s really helpful that Tobias breaks the shot down into smaller motions that you can practice to build muscle memory. Easily the best video I’ve seen on improving smash and clear technique and much better than the couple training classes I had. Also good production quality with clear sound, lighting and slow/stop motion with call outs. Thank you Tobias!
Really awesome and detailed video! I can tell a lot of work went into this :) Here are some things I personally learned from the video! 1. The hip rotating first, which creates tension above the hip, and helps rotate the body was pretty insightful. Now that I'm aware of this, I'll definitely try to work it in to my smash. 2. The idea of a "kinetic chain" is also something I've vaguely had in mind, but having a term for it helps me imagine that the energy is chaining/transferred from one part of my body to the next, to generate power. 3. At [8:42], I was reminded that when I worked on hitting shots from my side, leading with the elbow and hitting, that actually helped me get the timing down for the rotation of the forearm and also down the timing for the right racket face, and that really helped my smash! 4. At [9:22] I noticed that the arrow was pointing upwards, which reminded me of what my coach from china said, that power is generated by rotating your elbow upward, even for smashes! Excellent video, and looking forward to the next one!
This guy is amazing...the more I listen to the details, the more I realise he is addressing the CRITICAL and REAL factors that brings about the desired results, and not routine movements everyone else teaches. In one segment,he is already teaching some very advanced technique without stating it that way, but has answered a question I had for a long time that no one locally has been able to answer.Well done and keep it up !!!!
Simple, clear explanations of how to do it and why. Just the right level of detail to allow you to believe that you might actually be able to follow it and make a difference to your game. Terrific - thanks
so far the best smash tutorial video ever, I learned badminton under 3 instructers, non of them taught the technique “as step by step “ as you did, thankyou!
This brings me so much clarity! Especially about being tense and trying to hit with 110% strength- that’s totally about me. Thank you for an amazing explanation 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Yes Tobias, like name also, thank 4 ur quality video lesson takes out mystery out of smash and clear. I will watch explosive start and split step, which foot work is key to get there, otherwise useless all that techniques cannot apply. I like to see repeated half dozen times, slow motion in forehand and backhand side motion that is key for beginners to trying to reach middle level that whole lot of people can wish for your quality video, repeat slow motion in 1) forehand, 2) backhand, 3) foot step forward, back, and side to side, right side and left side, I know grapevine foot work like movement in left side but back side is like fast double step some players are doing that likely is incorrect in terms of perfect foot step back foot work theory! Thanks so much indeed! USA
Thanks a lot, it has helped immensely. I had pain in my forearm muscle and in around the elbow area everytime i used to smash. These technique seems to aliviate that stress on my elbows and outer forearm muscles.
This is an excellent demonstration of a smash with correct technique I am level 2 coach in UK and I will use your demonstration in my coaching thank you
By far the best tutorial I've seen, my problem is I've been playing for 5 years and I never learned correct technique so I don't throw my elbow forward during my swing. I've always lacked smash and clear power due to this and your tutorial explains it really well.
Tobias your videos are amazing!!! I realised that is is HUGELY BENEFICIAL to rewatch the videos a few times that Tobias has produced just for us , free of charge ! How kind is that ! You will improve your badminton even more. Also have yourself videotaped by a friend on a mobile phone perhaps when you play the same shots to see if you are compliant or can improve further. Watch these critically yourself with a supportive person , not a person who will criticise you or make you feel inadequate. ( if that happens dump him or her fast). Thank you 🙏 Tobias for you amazing selfless videos.
I was aware that we need to bring forward our hip but I never knew why. Thanks a lot for this great explanation, it has given me a better understanding of how to approach clears and smashes. Hope to see more such detailed videos. Thanks again :)
I have seen a lot of smash and power tutorials before. I think this is the first one on which i agree on every aspect. This is such a good video, without any mistakes. The nuances are exactly right and some aspects doesn't matter to him like the racket position in preparation. This is so true! Everybody look carefully at the video and start practicing the him movement as shown. Really well done!
If you exhale while hitting the shuttle, it will help you relax the upper body during smashes and clears. I think you can also lose power if you're hitting the shuttle too much in front of you (like in front of your head / in the center of your shoulders) rather than in front of your right shoulder (or left shoulder for left handed). Thank you for this great video and all the really detailed tips to improve.
🙏 Thank you Tobias for the encouraging heart. I really appreciate it tremendously. I sincerely hope you and your fellow badminton 🏸 players are allowed to play 🏸 our favourite sport ( badminton of course!) in your 🏡 country . In 🇬🇧 the UK and my hometown where I reside due to the Coronavirus situation badminton 🏸 is banned in the gymnasiums. I haven’t played badminton 🏸 for around 6 moths now. It’s very ☹️ sad as you can imagine. Thanks again for your charity in giving to us all your stupendous knowledge on UTube. I can never put it into words how deeply grateful I am. I know I am speaking for ALL OF US that watch and are those whom are subscribed to your fantabulous UTUBE channel Tobias. You must have such 😊 lovely and highly honourable parents. Please mention my complements to them both as well as your entire family including grandparents and brothers and sisters and uncles and aunties whom I am sure are extremely proud and supportive of you. Your parents must have spent many hours driving you around to different venues all over the country when you were a youngster learning and playing badminton and going up the ranks and spent lots of money 💵 supporting you financially at that time. Your coaches are another set of people whom will also be very 👍 proud of your accomplishments Tobias. You are amazing son. I say this as I am 62 yrs old now. God will reward you for your totally unselfish help for us all. May He reveal Himself and cradle you in His loving Arms and make you His forever.
Great tutorial and video!👍 I've been playing for years but the position of the elbow has never been explained before, so useful, also the hip movement! You got a Like from me!😀
Aloha Coach Tobias just revisited this awesome video. Great to revisit from time to time, but also as a review. It is amazing because with your drills you can follow your progression. I am a much better smasher than I was when I initially viewed this video. Thank you again . Your drills increase my awareness of the basic smash techniques, so critical for consistency and power. Coach Tobias you are my role model. I am a better player thanks to you.
really focussing on the basic problems for beginners-intermediate players. Your vdos are really helpful for people like me who don't have a coach (not professional) and follow badminton only for passion.
Very very useful. Hardly does anyone cover these minute details in other videos. Thank you so much. Working hard on the grip, elbow and the hip movement. Thank you.
Thanks for another fantastic video, Tobias. Mistake #3 seems like what I sometimes do and can't figure out why my shots lack power. I can't wait to apply these tips in my game this weekend. Keep up the high quality content!
I really really appreciate the time and effort you put into your videos and it helped me correct my mistakes. Even a thousand thanks would not be enough.
@@tobiaswadenka8435 You deserve so much more. Without your advice, I would not have discovered how to smash with more power. Please keep the volume of the music LOW, on headphones I have to mute the sound to avoid getting annoyed. It's a common mistake I see on many educational videos, peoples think adding distracting bloat increase production value when it's the opposite. Apart from that the video is fantastic with well contructed parts and on point speech, great to see that you point out common mistakes. I've developed my backhand a lot due to problems in my forehand but this year I've decided to focus on that. Actually my motion is off and I can't control the direction of the smashes (grip too relaxed maybe) or get consistent clear length.
Great ideas on how to make this shot . I really find the step by step breakdown and exercises to fine tune these steps super helpful. I can see you put a lot of thought into how to best teach these skills and I thank you very much!

Hey Tobias , your videos are very informative, thorough and detailed. Your explanation gave me clarity and helped me reform my technique . I really appreciate your work!!
Excellent video Tobias - in fact the best smash tutorial I've ever seen. Would be interested to hear your thoughts on Lee Jae Bok's smash technique which is very different from the widely held approach as you have taught (and is mostly forearm only, with a very body-facing-net approach). My coach says his technique is more aimed at elite male doubles players who don't have time to do do the full kinetic chain due to the speed of elite male doubles (and whom have extremely strong forearm muscles such that they can achieve power from the arm in isolation).
It's a really great explanation that something came into my head to correct my mistakes. I want to press the "like" button 100 times, unfortunately, I can only press one time. Many thanks Tobias!
Now I understand why some people can hit hard smashes with less effort. My main mistake was not using the wrist. Thanks for creating this awesome video.
Great explanation and effort put into the step by step for smash. I have to say that smash and clear are not the same body motion though. For clear, turning your body to the side and back after each clear wastes time and vision of the other half of the court. It is also very taxing on your shoulder. For clear, I think it is better to take the shuttle close to straight-on, body almost squared.
