This man is EXHAUSTED. The movie press tours have been out of control lately because there is so much pressure to bring people to the theaters. Wicked's press tour is crazy too. But Paul Mescal seems like a genuine guy who just before Normal People was an ordinary Irish lad. He's never been through this before. I like how real he is about it here, speaks to how comfortable he is with Josh.

@@thureinminhtet24 Yes, I did hear - and I have seen some of the other videos. At least in my own mind, my main point was more about how freaking radiant he looked and how he still brought his characteristic exuberance to the interview.

Imagine saying a few years ago that the main characters in the two biggest box office films of the last two years have both been lead by Irishmen in Paul Mescal (Gladiator 2) and Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer) it’s great to see! Also, not to mention the likes of Saoirse Ronan, Andrew Scott, Barry Keoghan, Colin Farrell, Michael Fassbender and Brendan Gleeson still putting out brilliant work.

I had never heard of Paul before Gladiator, so I sought out his earlier work: Normal People, Aftersun, Strangers, and even a little short called Drifters (I think). It’s rare for me to be completely bowled over consistently by an actor’s performances (the last one was Colton Ryan). But Strangers was a real dilemma for me. The performances by all four actors were so authentic that it was easy to suspend belief and go along with the conceit that you can have a relationship with your dead parents. I thought the whole trajectory of the film was for Andrew’s parents to let him go, so that he could be open to life, Harry, or even someone else. When the secret of Harry’s existence was spilled, I felt conned and manipulated. I had to ask myself what the film was then about. And I still don’t know. I don’t know what story Andrew Haigh was ultimately trying to tell. When I rewatch the movie, and I will because it’s intriguing, I will simply turn it off when Andrew finds Harry. I don’t believe it for a minute, and I don’t want to spoil the preceding narrative.
P.S. I LOVE martinis (real ones with gin)…….and extra olives!

He's got 45 mins to talk to one of the most interesting actors around... and spends his time asking about "are you friends with this and that?" and trying the scoop about Marvel and Franchises... and when the actor needs to get out from some dead end talk, he just smiles and goes "nice". I don't understand this.

UPDATE: I just listened to this again, and I am impressed with it. It flowed, it wasn’t disjointed at all. I think they captured a unique moment toward the end of a press tour, when he’s fighting exhaustion and constant unceasing media stimulation.
The interviewer did a good job with a short remote during the All of Us Strangers junket. I’ve been looking forward to this since.
But the interviewer did a meh job with Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell too. He used to be more tuned in to personality and nuances, I guess.
