They knew this one was a gem. The connection with Scully's father and bringing Brad on board as the baddies screams the confidence they had in the script.
Brad Douriff was amazing as Luther Lee Boggs. Beyond The Sea is definitely one of the best episodes of the entire series. More than that, it was the episode that turned the Scully’s character from a one-dimensional skeptic to a real, flesh and blood woman.
I love Scully-centric episodes because she is just so good, whether it is rage, fear, love, the woman does it all with a very convincing acting. Can't help but love Scully.
What's not to Love about this episode? Dourif is an amazing actor, marvelous performance, and made Gillian Anderson pick it up a notch. This is where she really showed she had the chops to be an excellent actress. I appreciated that they left a lot as a mystery at the end, instead of the usual full explanations with a red ribbon neatly tied around them, unlike most shows did at the time.
I'm always looking forward seeing a new one of your X-Files revisits popping up and you doing 2 of my favourite Season 1 episodes this week has really been a treat. You deserve way more subs. Keep up the good work dude :)
I'm glad you are enjoying the videos. Im trying to get more videos out quicker and I don't think I deserve anything. People will subscribe if they like what I put out.
Another great video with hilarious references. But one thing I noticed, you said "Boggs feigns distress" and I never thought of that! Its the only bit of the episode where i thought Brad Dourif's acting was off but it makes sense if hes faking it there.
Throughout the series we get indications that Scully's professionally distant, detached, sometimes aloof behaviour is how she keeps others & the world at bay. A psychological buffer so to speak, for which she pays a price, as there's very little people she's able to let in except close family and Mulder. This episode was one of the first showing the cracks in the lid that she usually keeps on her emotions. Beautiful.
I’ve never seen Douriff in a role I didn’t like. Granted I haven’t seen all of his work, but still. In Se7en he was amazing and in Alien Resurrection he was the best part of the whole movie.
A childhood favorite of mine as Brad Douriff really brings it in his performance as a truly chilling character while channeling ghosts. Also he's not wrong because of the supernatural abilities of the spirits that use him they can see anything and everything, what happened to someone or what's going to happen. It's odd why the ghosts are so gungho about saving Boggs other than this is their only time to interact with the living because as An American Werewolf in London taught us talking to the dead isn't fun. So they'll help law enforcement if we kerp Boggs alive.
That scene with Scully waking up to her father's ghost speaking silently is so scary. It reminds me of father Karas dream scene in the original Exorcist.
I know this video is over a year old and I'm sure other people in the comments pointed of this out. But I have to say it. It is so strange to me that you'd gloss over Don S Davis' most iconic roles like General Hammond from Stargate SG-1, which was also filmed in Canada. But, more importantly, in regards to X-Files, Davis also played the character of Major Garland Briggs from Twin Peaks. Without Twin Peaks X-Files wouldn't even exist.
I hope you're all having a nice Easter Sunday. Whether you celebrate it or not I hope you all have a great day.
You too! Love your channel, dude.
Sadly this might break your heart😣 but I've never seen Maniac Cop😫
They knew this one was a gem. The connection with Scully's father and bringing Brad on board as the baddies screams the confidence they had in the script.
Oh yeah knew they had something special.
CC wrote the script just for Brad
I liked that Mulder called her Dana rather than Scully when she turned up after her father's death and Scully's surprised reaction .
He does it very rarely, but it's always nice when he does.
Brad Douriff was amazing as Luther Lee Boggs.
Beyond The Sea is definitely one of the best episodes of the entire series. More than that, it was the episode that turned the Scully’s character from a one-dimensional skeptic to a real, flesh and blood woman.
You're right, this episode really grew scully into something much more.
Gillian’s acting in this is just impeccable.
She really stepped it up here.
I love Scully-centric episodes because she is just so good, whether it is rage, fear, love, the woman does it all with a very convincing acting. Can't help but love Scully.
Scully is simply the best.
I would disagree w one Scully-centric episode; All Things; it is alright.
Scully father have same role in Twin Peaks
I think I realized that after the fact.

Yeah this episode is easily one of my favourites of the entire series. Gillian really gives it her all.
That Jimi Hendrix joke was hilarious! Keep it up
Haha I tried.
I just re-watched it for the first time in a long time. This is the best episode of the series and one of the best episodes from any show, ever.
I can't argue with anyone choosing this as their favourite, it's just so good.
Brad Dourif is amazing. I can't imagine anyone else in this role
He's really underrated.
This was definitely a top 10 X-files episode. Gillian Anderson and Brad Dourif delivered brilliant performances.
They're both so good in it.
To me this is one of the best episodes of the entire show.
Easily one of the best.
The argument between Boggs and Scully is unforgettable. A lot of talent involved. 👏
It's one of my favourite moments of the series.
Love Brad Dourif.
This is a great episode
Brad is so good.
Thanks for the background information. Dourif is extraordinary.
I try to dig up as much as I can, thanks for watching.
8:15 I immediately thought of the episode of a certain series from the 80s in which Brad Dourif played the guitar in the style of Jimmy Hendrix 😅
Is that a thing? Maybe that was a reference that went over my head.
Seeing this vid come out was better than an easter egg! Can't wait for the next one I love your series, thank you!
Thank you so much, I greatly appreciate it.
Xfiles got all the best actors
It really did.
A new episode? That's about the best Easter gift I could've expected!!!!
Haha well I appreciate that.
@@JBSpookyReview I hope you have as much fun making your videos as I have watching them :)
@@larnoldthespaceguy oh yeah I do especially when I make something stupid like the Jimi Hendrix bit that made me laugh at how dumb it was.
I love Brad Dourif ❤ I hope you had a wonderful Easter 🐰
Brad is a treasure. I hope you did as well!

That's how I saw it, but I could be wrong.
5:53 Oh by the way Mulder, did I ever tell you about how long a head lives when it gets seperated from the body?
From experience not long.
this has got to be one of my favourite episodes, so good
It is excellent.

I love this episode so much.
Another great review! Absolutely loved this episode. Creepy, mysterious, and excellent acting!
The acting in this one is top notch.
This review, my good sir, is a masterpiece.
Great episode. Keep up the good work on the videos.
Thank you so much.
Brad Dourif was just brilliant as Luther Boggs❗
Dourif is amazing in this episode.
I’ve never seen Douriff in a role I didn’t like. Granted I haven’t seen all of his work, but still. In Se7en he was amazing and in Alien Resurrection he was the best part of the whole movie.
Even films he's in that are bad, he still brings it no matter what.
He wasn't in Se7en.
A childhood favorite of mine as Brad Douriff really brings it in his performance as a truly chilling character while channeling ghosts.

Love this episode!
It's one of the best.
Don Davis (Scully’s dad) and William B Davis (Cancer Man) were both in ‘Look Who’s Talking’.
I wonder if that was a coincidence? Or are they related ?
Haha were they? that's pretty funny.
Interesting how Charles and Luther share the same middle name (and actor!) 🤔
Kinda weird isn't it?
Now that's what I call a sticky situation.
the stickiest.
Off topic: but have you or will consider playing the X-Files FMV game? It's basically an extended episode
I know this video is over a year old and I'm sure other people in the comments pointed of this out. But I have to say it. If I was Scully Dad I’d be proud of her
How could you not be?
lol 12:34
Haha my humour is infantile I know.
How after death work in their universe???
I wish I knew.
this episode always seemed like a lot of similar story points to silence of the lambs.. maybe I'm reaching
I think you're right.
Charles lee ray best actor ever ohw sheit brad douriff. (and then you make the same joke😢)
Hahha sorry.
