I used to always buy used vehicles to get the best bang for my buck. Now that I have a career that allows me to afford a new car I tend to go that route. I enjoy owning a car that is mine and hasn't been driven by someone previously. I also enjoy having all of the initial warranty in tact and not having to pay out of pocket for the inevitable maintenance that's going to occur. I'm not rich and wouldn't be buying these crazy priced cars but i can comfortably afford around a 60k-70k car and I am ok with the depreciation.
Everyone says this but I bought 14’ Sport Autobiography with around 50k miles a few years back and now it has 90k. I follow the maintenance guidelines and the only thing I’ve had to pay for outside of regular maintenance was the lights that went out. I’ll be driving it until the engine fails. I am a little cautious that I got lucky and my next one will be unreliable 😬
I owned a land rover that used to not start the day after service. Had it towed twice before it was 5 years old. Friend bought an LR in 2018. It was in the shop two times before it was 6 months old. I love the comfort and experience of LRs but they definitely can have reliability issues.
Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn’t these SUVs continue to depreciate when you buy it used. Also, most cars loss their value the most the first 2.5 years. Usually around 35%, so to be at 57% at five years is just fine.
The depreciation curve starts to flatten after the 3-4 years so the cars don’t lose value as fast. Most of of the depreciation occurs within the first 5time years.
I do and keep them for over several years Take care of them and don’t have high repair costs with extended warranties. Don’t want to buy someone else’s problem unless I know how it was driven

I've been renting a new car every single month for the last 10+ years. I pay between $450 to $600 per month depending on the time of year. I carry 2 seperate insurances that cost a total of $250 for the entire year. Granted the insurance i carry is a "one off" insurance which means that if i get into an accident i would need to purchase another new policy BUT the greatest advantage is my insurance NEVER goes up no matter how many accidents i've been in and i get to drive a brand new or almost brand new car each and every month. You name it, i've rented it and will probably never go back to owning or leasing a car ever again. Ohhhh did i mention that the car charge is 70% deducted on my taxes since the car is mostly used for work

So, as tempting as it would be to purchase one of these depreciated beasts, do your research on the ones you are interested in, particularly on owner forums and such. You will get a much more honest idea of what you may face as an owner from the maintenance and repair cost perspective. They are all expensive to maintain if you follow the manufacturer's recommended maintenance and heaven help you if you have an engine, transmission, or electronics issue. If I had my choice a right at this moment, I would go with Tesla, the amount of routine maintenance compared to a traditional IC engined car is substantially less, and if you look at the cost to "refuel" the car versus an IC engine it less as well. Just my $0.02 worth based on past experience and current research into my next used car purchase. PS - BTW, an old joke for BMW M cars. There's a reason why they use the M symbol, it represents the multiplier for routine and repair maintenance costs versus a normal model BMW.
I bought a 2020 Rover HSE P525 new in June. Beautiful car, but it's had to go into the shop once because the front and rear seats stopped moving, another time because the cabin ionizer was making a high putch whistling noise, and another time because the lower screen on the dash needed a software update. But it sure looks good, the interior is comfortable and the ride is amazing. If I didn't buy the car to use as my business vehicle and take deductions, I for sure would have purchased a used one because of the insane depreciation.
Totally agree that buying a new car is not smart. The last time I purchased a new car was in 1995, it was a ‘95 Toyota Previs. I definitely got my money’s worth as I had kept that vehicle for over 20 with no problems…it just keep on running. I have purchased used cars ever since.
Seems to me, high depreciation vehicles have a propensity for poor reliability. Are there any exceptions to this? What you need if it exists is a fast depreciation vehicle that retains resale value after the first initial depreciation.
I'm on my 3rd BMW X5 in 10 years. I've been able to drive very fine used cars for the cost of a new Chevy or Ford, I just plan on spending $2-3k/yr on maintenance. It's worth it in my book.
I bought a 2015 BMW X5 xDrive50i V8 Twin Turbo AWD. It was $90,000 new. I got it for $29,500 with 43k miles clean title. I absolutely love it and it drives amazing! Don’t listen to the BS if you can’t afford it new you can’t used. How about you stop going to shops that steal your money but that’s what most do.
Why would you laugh? You don't know her or her husband's net worth. It may just be another ride to her. Maybe she doesn't have to worry about maintenance and upkeep because she is going to dump it and get another one soon. In the meantime you'll still have your crappy Isuzu Trooper driving and listening out for odd noises. Think about that before you laugh next time!
@@ggilestate I've never thought about it that way before. A work van actually smashed into the trooper, I sold it to a homeless guy for 300 bucks. He only gave me 200 upfront and I don't think he's coming back to pay me the other 100. The noises are what makes old cars fun. Imagine pulling up to a club with squeaky brakes, everyone stops and stares. In a super quiet car what happens? No one notices and your money is trash
I think the watch is there because of depreciation. If I listened right you said the watch costs about $150,000 and the car depreciates $137,000 you can sell that watch sell that car and never have to worry about it again.😂
If that's the case, then Bentley have pulled off a brilliant marketing strategy (unwittingly, possibly a first in motoring history) in order to offset that spectre of depreciation!.
*The thing is a car is NOT an "investment."* Buy what you can afford and enjoy! Of COURSE it's going to lose value. It's like asking how much your ice cream cone has depreciated after you've licked it. That is HARDLY the point of ice cream!
by the time you get them after they have depreciated in value, they are still new granted but they are going to be needing all kinds of service which is not cheap at all. so the money that you are saving by not spending $1000000 on a car you end up spending on servicing it and repairing it
I bought my Touareg brand new in 2011 and that SUV is still my primary car today. I'm still loving it. It got me through snow storms, bad rain, and some light off roading just fine. I'm just sadden that VW USA have stopped bringing in new Touaregs since around 2017-2018. I would have gotten a new Touareg if it was available in the US.
Surprised BMW 5 series is not on the list .I bought a 2016 535 that depreciated 53% from its original sticker price of 68,000.So for 30k I got a clean simple inline six cyclinder that has only 300 hp but gets 22mpg and is easy to maintain .
After 5 years the price dropped like a rock. Then you buy it in a cheap price with the high mileages and numerous of repairs that you will have to deal with. New better than old.
I was a dumb ass myself a couple of years ago for rewarding myself with new VW Touareg and ended up losing more than 50% when I finally had to sell it due to heavy maintenance and repair costs. But buying used cars didn't sit well to me then ,so after much self-criticism I had to be smarter and I bought a three y.o. Lexus GSR. It hasn't given me maintenance headaches so far.
I bought an Infiniti Q30 (aware not an SUV) when Infiniti decided to pull out of Europe last year. Heavily discounted to get rid of stock. Cost new £36k and I got my 2 year old model with 22k miles on the clock for £12.5k. Pretty decent and since it's essentially a Nissan/Renault/Mercedes collaboration, reasonable repair costs too. The fact I'm Scottish and sought a bargain are not related 🤔

I have a 2015 Honda Accord hybrid that consistently per tank of gas goes 750 to 800 miles between fill ups. I can & have consistently driven 10 to 11 miles past the dash “0 miles left until empty” feature. My best tank was 900.2 miles driven. I have had 1 problem in 190 thousand miles. The drivers window would strain when rolling up. The fix was to RE-lube the window rails. Boom! Fixed. I can go 100mph just like any other car on the list, but at age 54 those speeding days are over. It’s front wheel drive & I ski in winter park Colorado, and the car with snow tires easily negotiates Berthoud Pass. Paid $34K, & the car is worth about $6K Today. You guys do the math. This is an Awesome video for mature money conscious people. Sure I would love a X5 M BMW with all that power, speed, and superb handling, but going to the gas station twice a week would kill! If I want to fly I’ll ride my BMW K1300s. That bike get 42mpg. Awesome informative video! You could be a financial planner based on your drive and determination to save a buck. Thank you!
The only time I buy new is when I am ordering a custom vehicle for me. I buy cars to drive them, not for the next guy. Me losing on depreciation is just life. Those 0-60 stop light runs in a factory new, optioned out SRT Hellcat never lose value.
Ideal Media I love my 2003 Jaguar XJ8L 73k miles $5k in excellent condition leather and all will need a gloss coat maybe but other than that it’s in pristine condition and maintained. Sure it depreciated but the smooth ride, crisp sharp turns, the saloon style that sits low is well worth it.
I bought my Jaguar F-Type with 1200 miles. Lost $30,000 off MSRP. Not to mention window tint, car bra. Lovin my ride still. Now 6 years old. No intention to get rid of it.
While I appreciate the vid here is the reason this math is so BADLY FLAWED. You argue depreciation against the MSRP. Do you actually know anyone who pays MSRP? NO. For instance my last car sticker (MSRP) was something like 47k. I bought it for 39k which was invoice price less any rebates. Now in three years when it was worth 34k people like you would say I lost over 40% of my value in three years when ACTUALLY I only lost around 7% of value in three years when you compare to what I paid. So I was getting a car that deprecated around 2% to 3% per year but by your math it's bad to buy new...that is the problem with your math. NO ONE pays MSRP, if they did you would be right, but if you buy a car at or around INVOICE PRICE then your total argument is wrong.
I bought a Jeep Gladiator Rubicon new. I don't care about depreciation as I'll never sell it. It's my last gasoline vehicle and it will get lots of upgrades, engine swaps etc over the years, but I'll enjoy it.
The Q7 3.0t has 333 hp, not 280. I wouldn’t buy one used unless you buy a great extended warranty. This is coming from a longtime VW & Audi owner. Great video!

🤣😂🤣
He kind is ... The Priest of Discount Luxury Cars ...
4:12 the clip actually comes from David Dobrik, it’s his Tesla
Where is the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio on your list?
I laughed at this girl in a bentayga the other day while I was in my Isuzu trooper. I don't think she knew why I was laughing
@@ggilestate oh also imagine having an SUV and doing SUV things with it. It makes so much more sense
Did she have lipstick 💄 on her teeth that’s embarrassing 😄
This guy is envious of successful people that actually do something for society and enjoy their money
HEY MAN! I have a bentayga and I’m watching your channel 🤣🤗
I think most people just don't know how much they will lose. Nice channel I just found it.
*The thing is a car is NOT an "investment."* Buy what you can afford and enjoy! Of COURSE it's going to lose value. It's like asking how much your ice cream cone has depreciated after you've licked it. That is HARDLY the point of ice cream!
The synonym of luxury is depreciation
Uh, you must have never heard of Rolex
by the time you get them after they have depreciated in value, they are still new granted but they are going to be needing all kinds of service which is not cheap at all. so the money that you are saving by not spending $1000000 on a car you end up spending on servicing it and repairing it
the real questiin is: why buy luxury used if you can buy premium new.
@@trazyntheinfinite9895 Because the car won't lose $50K in value after the first 5 years again. It will level out and depreciate slower.
Not really. A 5 year old car was 50-75k miles has plenty of life in it if it was taken care of, even if it’s an unreliable model.
You have to make sure that the owner took care of the vehicle I have bought 2 in perfect condition
I still love my X5M so much fun bought it secondhand with 34k miles on the clock
How has the maintenance been and how long have you had it now? I was looking at X5M but went with Cayenne instead.
Awesome video....thank you RUclips Recommendations. Subbed.
Awesome! Thank you!
Toureg with off road pack rocks for sure.
Nice low key beast, massive torque, tows really well
I bought my Touareg brand new in 2011 and that SUV is still my primary car today. I'm still loving it. It got me through snow storms, bad rain, and some light off roading just fine. I'm just sadden that VW USA have stopped bringing in new Touaregs since around 2017-2018. I would have gotten a new Touareg if it was available in the US.
Buy used and never cry a day about depreciation 👍
Strange that he didn’t mention the Mercedes line which rapidly go south in resale value, not to mention the exorbitant maintenance costs.
Yeah, I bought a 2013 GL450 4matic for only $20,000 a year ago, brand new they cost around 90 grand.
U just might need to be a mechanic😂😂
I actually do. The comfort and security I have owning a vehicle which no one has abused is worth every penny.
It hasn’t been easy for my BMW and I. Each weekend I enter my car I expect some sort of surprise alert on the dashboard.😠
Get a low mile car after someone trades it in off lease.... that simple
@Rvqsx It all about mileage Timmy. And some are still under warranty.
9:05 My favorite part 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Surprised BMW 5 series is not on the list .I bought a 2016 535 that depreciated 53% from its original sticker price of 68,000.So for 30k I got a clean simple inline six cyclinder that has only 300 hp but gets 22mpg and is easy to maintain .
7:55 I thought they came supercharged v8. The one in the video sound like a v8.
You are not only informative, you are as funny as hell... two thumbs up for you 👍👍
After 5 years the price dropped like a rock. Then you buy it in a cheap price with the high mileages and numerous of repairs that you will have to deal with. New better than old.
You don’t know what currency do they use in Germany! I rest my case with your videos. Thanks for not giving me so much troubles.
Both cars I’ve purchased have been CPO’s and I plan on keeping it that way
I bought an Infiniti Q30 (aware not an SUV) when Infiniti decided to pull out of Europe last year.
🤣🤣
I love this channel
So glad to hear Mstnurun!
Loving this one thank's for sharing very important information giving blessed love to all knowledge is power hopefully everyone pays attention keep up the good work 🙏🙏🙏🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲💪💪💪
Me: sees Ideal Media notification
Also me:🏃🏃🏃🏃🏃🏃
Great video,,thank you for all that good inf.
Our pleasure!
Because people are so nasty and wont keep their cars clean. I like new cars. I just bought a 2004 Golf. It smell so bad. I bought it Saturday and have yet to sit in it. So why did I buy it? Because I need the views.
People hate Land Rovers but having owned two... it has an X Factor that is hard to beat. I even owned the Lexus GX460 but it didn’t have the X Factor.
The worst part is
When someone watch this video who bought these cars brand new
They know they are fuckedup
Strange that he didn’t mention the Mercedes line which rapidly go south in resale value, not to mention the exorbitant maintenance costs.
He probably owns one. Just saying...
Mine was in the shop more than out, by the time i drove it home another code was on the dash. Total POS
Me: Hmmmmm interesting 🤔
My Wallet: NOPE 👎
Me too. Fun to dream though right?
@@IdealMediaChannel you can say that again 🤣
@@IdealMediaChannel seriously
I enjoy your comic approach, as well as your informative presentation.
Can you review about the lincoln Ls with both the v6 and v8 engine
Luv my v8 Lincoln!
@7:53. Pretty gnarly sounding "V6"....
Yep, it’s gotta be a Landrover.... no wait, the Lexus! I don’t know, Squidd. Please help!
LEXUS. Never Land Rover. Ever again.
Squidd, I don’t know what I’d do without you!
Just borrow your dad’s Hyundai

Guy: sells luxury SUV
Also guy after seeing this: meh Ima keep it
I have the 2004 Volkswagen Touareg V8 and love it wouldn't take nothing for
Shoot, my dad has an BMW X5 i35 2007 style. I expected it to be on this list. Love ur vids though! Very very nice!
I'm sure that depreciated pretty hard! BMW SUV's are notorious for losing value.
@@IdealMediaChannel Oh, I thought that was mercedes..
Loved the stranger things clip around the Bentley 😅😅 great segway.

Loved your video. You made it fun to watch. Look forward to more
you know youre broke when 64% isnt enough
You and me both buddy. The most expensive car I've ever purchased is $7,300 and I feel like it's too much money.
I’ve been TOTALLY against buying new cars.....up until the Ford Bronco came out. This will be my first brand new car.
congrats on 400k
Thanks Ninja, 500k here we come!
I bought my Jaguar F-Type with 1200 miles. Lost $30,000 off MSRP. Not to mention window tint, car bra. Lovin my ride still. Now 6 years old. No intention to get rid of it.
Don't buy Q7, get a Q5. The Q7 has a lot more issues of reliability.
can u plz explain? was thinking of getting the 2018 Q7
Don’t buy Q5, get GX460!
Q5 is too small for a 6' ft man in the driver seat.
chen dzeko no it’s not, unless your about 300 lbs..oh wait, your not America are you..
ge gary Q5..Brilliant ..that is all I need to say.
Bought a Porsche Cayenne five years old, paid less than half. GREAT SUV!
MSRP is used because for the most part it is non variable which is a necessity for a video like this.
So again .what car we taking about
I bought a Jeep Gladiator Rubicon new. I don't care about depreciation as I'll never sell it. It's my last gasoline vehicle and it will get lots of upgrades, engine swaps etc over the years, but I'll enjoy it.
Well, at least we know that we can get these luxury suvs cheap...
NGL that X5 M is a heck of a deal now.
@@IdealMediaChannel What about slightly older X5M or X6M Models 11'-13?
The Q7 3.0t has 333 hp, not 280. I wouldn’t buy one used unless you buy a great extended warranty. This is coming from a longtime VW & Audi owner. Great video!
Thanks Santoine!
I second that, coming from someone with a 2017 330 hp Q7 (and a great extended warranty lol)
The 48 haters bought Land Rovers.
I know their pain.
Dear God, I was in the market for a vw touareg, you just saved me a lot of pain....land cruiser it is then!
Honorable mention, Porsche Cayenne😂
New subscriber right after intro, killin it. Congratulations!
