I wish there was a Jim Cornette GPS navigation voice so I could get cussed out every time I miss a turn
And as you drive through the south it tells you about the wrestling territory that was in that area.
"You missed your fuckin exit.. Motherfuckerr..."
it should come with the burger towel
When you finally make a turn: "Guess who won the pony."
When driving through Dusty Rhodes' hometown: "This time next year we'll be in major motion pictures and sitcoms."
shitstain you missed the turn!
Jimmy is so right when he mentions the three types of breaks you only need during a long trip: Food, Gas, Piss. That's it.
Ideally you can get it all at one stop.
My mom and I do say this all the time, NEVER stop three times, if you're hungry, then stop for food and then have a piss break and if needs be, THEN get the gas, never go one and then say "oh shit, I'm mega starving, can we stop off at the mcdonalds on the next stop?"
Yes, gas-up and then piss in the same location and for food there is always a fast-food place next door. You just have to be really open for what you want to eat. If you are a picky eater that needs everything to be made a certain way please don't go on a road trip with anyone. If you stop in a small town where the choice is McDonalds or Subway never say "well, let's keep driving and see what we can find". Just eat the fucking Big Mac it isn't poison.
Now you have these fuckers that have to stop and smoke every hour because they don't want to smoke in the car. That takes longer than a piss break, they have to take their sweet ass time and smoke two cigarettes.
No kidding, if you keep stopping it adds up and all of a sudden when you get to your destination its already dark with no lighting and if you aren't used to dark country roads it can be a bit of a shock.
Two things I’ve learned from the road.
1.) Use rest stops to piss or just to stretch a minute and reset.
2.) Casinos have the best bathrooms, free soda and don’t care who you are or what time you are there. Also great for catching a nap if you need one, especially if they have a parking garage where you’ll be protected from weather.
Took friends of mine to a casino a few times. I don't gamble so it's usually snooze time when I'm there..depending on the time of day
Also if using a country rest area at night, you should be armed to the teeth.
@@gwildordipkin6504 I bring my nuclear grenade with me just incase. Will it kill me _and_ my entire family by turning us into instant vapor? *Surely* . But that's not the point. The point is you can _never_ be _too_ careful at truckstops.
I remember when my town finally got a Panera bread I legitimately thought it was called “Pantera Bread.” So I’d always make Pantera food puns. “Gonna get some Croissants from Hell” “Eatin’ 5 Muffins Alone” “Get me a DimeBaguette”

He drove everywhere back in the day cause he's afraid of flying

Wonder how Jim feels about Waffle Houses? When i was a round 10 years old (x-mas of 85 i think). My family, my mom and Dad and sister AND my Grandparents all drove to Tampa (from Bowling Green Ky.) to spend Christmas with other family members. All of us piled into a Lincoln Towncar. What should have been a 13 or so hour trip, turned into a nearly 24 hour torture trip due to the fact that my Grandfather had a rule that we stopped every 2 hours at a waffle house to have a cup of coffee and a cigarette. Thought my Dad was going to have a stroke.
Aaron Stockton Omg I would’ve died
Dumbass fucking grandfather
Lol
I'd a had a fucking aneurism
Every 2 hours?? Lmao...
Generally I try to time it where I can do all three at one stop
@dirk.u mean u piss and gas in your food before u eat it.......totally awesome dude
U mean u gas and piss in your food before eating it?
Dirkdiggler Hopefully you're not eating gas station food. Although that would allow you to shit in about 2 minutes.
JM1993951 Yeah that gas station food is bad news. I try to eat things that will be kind to my stomach when I'm on the road lol.
You mean at once? You're chowing down while pissing into a can and holding the gasoline pump?
DQ is the worst for me from experience, never gotten out in under 10 minutes.
Waffle House is a godsend, in the south for some bizzare reason many fast food places are not open 24/7 or past 11pm.
If you want fast hot food, don’t go to a ice cream shop. Seriously I worked at McDonald’s once and the fucking ice cream cone is what always brings something to a crashing halt in the drive through
@@MrSheckstr I got an ice cream from McDonalds way back in like 1995 when I was 6 or so. Since then, Till this day the ice cream and milkshake machine has been out of order :-/ (edit: that is not an exaggeration nor a lie, this is truth. Same McDonalds lol)

XD I laughed myself silly when Jericho mentioned that in his first book - Lionheart.
Warren Sharp yes yes yes !!
Jim please!!!! I'm not sure If this has been suggested already but....... If you would release a Corny Atlas with all your road notes I would buy it Immediately! Just a transcript of all your road notes. I know it would take time and money but transcribing it would at least be easy. Please!!!

You can say what you want about Corny, but he was 100% about all of this. Steak N Shake drive thru needs to be closed, that place is brutal.

Anyone that drives around South Central KY knows about that Franklin, KY exit. I have no idea how, but they are always the cheapest gas in a 50 mile radius. And it isn't that watered down crap you get at some "cheap" gas stations either. Also, anyone making fun of having to make 3 piss stops per 8 hours either doesn't have a girlfriend/wife or is under 30. You'll find out how right I am about that.
Jim is correct that the gas is always cheaper near the Tennessee state line. For example on I-75 the cheapest gas is at either Corbin exit.
How do you know it's not the "watered down kind"? Even if you have some way of measuring the octane rating, and it's correct, you still would have to wait quite a while and exclusively use that station to see results like clogged fuel filter/injectors or fouled 02 sensors etc. if the fuel was indeed garbage.
Oh yeah? Fuck you scott!
Oh yeah, and yes I'm from Ohio but I live in KY. Yes in Franklin best but also cheapest gas in that area.
if they add anything to your gas that's a wide open lawsuit and people will pile on. Not happening.
Fun Fact: The street sign showed in this photo is Exit 15 on 495 in Massachusetts for the outlets
I live in Wrentham, I had to do a double take 😂

I'd like to hear Jim's thoughts on Wendy's changing their burgers
I thought I was the only one who noticed that. Their burgers used to be great...
Still better than McDix
I am on the road a lot. 30 weeks a year I travel 100 miles or more from my house for work. I do a lot of the things Jim mentions already, but I'm actually taking notes for some of the tips he gives here!
He's not wrong. Most fast food serves breakfast at or around 10:30. From about 11:30 to 2pm it's usually pretty busy and hard to get in and out quickly. I worked too long in fast food.
Cornette could talk about eating cereal and it’d be awesome to hear. I’m a paramedic and a fireman, I’d love to take him with me and he just narrate the calls we go on 😂
Everything Cornette is saying about the rules of traveling is exactly right. I know because I traveled on the road for over 20 years with my old sales jobs.
There are more Mercury vehicles parked at Cracker Barrel restaurants than anywhere else on Earth.
I can attest, one time at a Cracker Barrel at 12:30 (noon) on a Sunday, at age 40, I was the YOUNGEST one in the place!
Jim's right about eating lunch when they first open up. Less chance of getting old fries and your burger should be right off the grill instead of having sit in a steamer.
Yeah, gotta make sure your shitty fast food is as fresh and gourmet as possible lmao
I’m so happy I found this episode! As many comic cons and wrestling matches as I’ve been to in six different states, this is pretty useful.
The best part about this is that I hail originally from near Franklin, KY and he’s 100% right. The Pilot Flying J IS the cheapest gas on 65 lol
This is one time Jim Cornette is totally right. I feel sorry for anyone.. *anyone* who doesn't have at least five lists like this in their head by the time they are 30.
I feel sorry for you.
@@12345Yeah , for what? For knowing that taking road trips can be exhausting and getting food on the go really needs to be planned out? Seriously.. what is wrong with that?
McDonalds and Burger King used to be such pain in the asses back in the day. In the 80's up through the 90's they used to quit breakfast around 10:00am.
Cracker Barrel was always a favorite. Great atmosphere with the decor and the food is good, but the open cafeteria can get noisy. Best not to go during dinner hour or the weekend rush traffic.
Cornette gets it with fast food. Never go at noon.
Damn! I never thought smith's groves bowling green and franklin ky would ever be mentioned in 1 shot!
The food and travel segments are the absolute best. They get me through the bad times. Thank you guys -cord
He’s so right about Cracker Barrel 😂
Somebody should purchase Cracker Barrel and rename the company Kolored Kountry Kooking.
I'm a trucker, I can totally relate to this.
Thank you for your service.
My mom is a trucker. I popped at Cornette referencing Rand McNally.
Jim Cornette talking about food is amazing.
I would love a Cornette travel hacks book the ultimate guide to an American road trip
I'd buy the travel log book.
Spoken like a true Virgo: notes, lists and details. No-one works so hard so that they don't have to work so hard.
I can still remember Corny giving me directions in Tampa Fl. Cracker Barrel on Sunday from 1130 AM until 1:30 PM is slammed with the Church folks. I never saw anyone using a GPS. The GPS probably was used once the smart phones came out. I usually traveled with Buddy Landel or Mike Thor and they had mental notes of where the best exit was for gas & food. I traveled with Arn a few times and he preferred What A Burger.
That sign is in Wretham, MA
Jay Volner You are correct, Wrentham Outlets exit
Oh shit 495
IIRC Friendly's is only in the Northeast. I believe it.
Yep. 495 I live 5 minutes from it.

Jim is a national treasure.
I can vouch for his S&S analysis. Last time I went to ours (4-5 years ago), I sat at the drive through window so long that I didn’t even give a shit about my money or food anymore and left
Let me guess, that Food Exit sign was from Massachusetts?
Correct
should.. should i be taking notes?
Josh Sweeney stop stuttering
sounds like steak and shake would benefit if they had the old school parking drive throughs where there were several bays and they could take in multiple orders and as they go by new ones could come in .. instead of the single file one at a time drive throughs

What's funny is that my sister in law managed a Panera Bread in Des Moines for about 2 years.

OMG I WAS THINKING STEAK N SHAKE RIGHT WHEN HE SAID IT. The drive through is TERRIBLE. I live by one and it's the worst. There's a Checkers right next to it that has similar food and none of the same problems.
FYI Second shift generally starts @ 2-3
Greatest road trip guide ever lol
rand mcnally road atlas...todays kids will not understand that was our google maps back in the day
His system is like how a work in a skilled trade (metal worker) has a whole bunch of tricks to get the job done faster and with less stress and aggravation. When on the road he doesn’t want to mess about and waste time , I respect that a lot.
The wait for steak and shake is worth it
Tried my first Cracker Barrel, and came away utterly disappointed. I ordered the fried chicken on recommendation from the waitstaff and it was basically KFC original recipe chicken, and my drumstick was about the circumference of an actual drumstick.
I'll probably never go back.
Two comments
1 shifts at fast food
3 major shifts , at least 2 intermediary (assuming its not a 24 hour)
1 open: 1-2 hours before the doors unlock ,depending of if that’s the day the supply truck delivers, to 6-7 hours after the doors open
2 close 7 hours prior to close and 1-2 hours after closing
3 smack dab in the middle of the day usually 30-60 minutes before the switch over to lunch and 1-2 hours after the 5pm rush
2 intermediary 2-3 hours after doors open to just about when the high school part timers come in in the afternoon, covers breaks for the openers takes their own break as soon as the transition to lunch menu is done or after the noon rush
Mid afternoon shift comes in after the lunch rush and stays till a few hours before doors close 12-8, 1-9, 2-10 are common. It’s also common for these two shifts to schedule to work 4 ten hour days and be available to start early, work later or come in for a short fifth day shift for overtime. In baseball terms they are your middle reliever or in football special teams, hands team, short yardage specialists
Second thought: what’s so crazy about traveling with an extension cord? I carry two (one industrial with a ground plug, one of them wimpy indoors one with the box head with two plugs on one side and a single on the other) plus a sturdy power bar. The outlets in a hotel room are never where you want them or enough where you need them. I shouldn’t have to unplug all the lamps and leave the bathroom door open for light while I rearrange the furniture just to plug in all the devices that make modern living so wonderful. Not my fault hotels are set up only to cater to traveling encyclopedia salesmen from the 50s with a wind up alarm clock and a dirty whack off book as their sole possessions
Holy shit the steak n shake drive thru is the worst. Not only is it horrible, it screws up the kitchen and buries the restaurant. Then the customers are mad and don't tip which pisses off the servers who are overworked. Everyone is so mad in the steak n shake. It is almost surreal being in there. Just get rid of the drive thru. Problem solved.
Josiah Alcorne you tip at Steak and Shake?
If you go inside to eat you tip the server. I tip almost everyone and tip well I work in hospitality and my mom raised us working in the industry.
If you are not tipping go to McDonalds and make room for real customers
Walraven Weekly real customers buy food. Nice customers/satisfied customers tip.
Whataburger is pretty good mostly in Texas
Jims gonna be pissed when he learns that Smiths Grove exit sucks now, because they opening a Buc-ees there
The burger towel is genius. Try it out.
this is fascinating...
"I didn't realize there were people in Panera from sun-up"
What? It's partially a breakfast place. People get breakfast from breakfast places. Why is he surprised?
Because he prolly doesn't exactly know what Panera serves or that it serves breakfast. I don't know menus or what and when places open that I don't go by to either. You shouldn't know places you don't go to either. It's not that complicated.
I’d love to hear his thoughts on Dairy Queen , I wonder if he’s ever stopped at one before
Folks always looked at me like I was crazy for all the stuff I had in my backpack when I was just going to see a friend or something. In it I always carried a 20$, be it in change or in bills in case I missed the last bus home, always had a roll of toilet paper in it. Always had a shirt change in case I need it (Least weird imo), had a screwdriver with interchangeable heads and a set of brass knuckles in case shit went down. Had pens, paper and even a deck of cards. Funny thing tho, they never looked at me funny again when any of those things came in handy.
Agree with ya on everything except the brass knuckles...I have a car jack and a wrench that comes with it...I might as well use that if shit goes down...especially cause in my country you can't own guns...
You can easily do 8 hours without a single food stop, Cornette is showing his big wig status a bit here. You want a quick, economical trip, you go zero food and 1 piss break. Perfectly doable.
It's like being in the mind of a genius or mad man.
Running black beauty like a freightliner lol. Every interstate driver needs everything he lists off but I would add truckerpath app as well
Simply amazing, I do the same thing on a five hour trip up north
I have a mental note of a lot of those easy ons/easy offs throughout my home state. I thought I was the only person who thinks about this.
OMG! I completely understand what he's explaining.
I can attest to Cornette's comment on Cracker Barrel-The parking lot is ALWAYS full on Sundays
(Google Cornette Philly Diner while you're at it, kids)
Take a McShit and get gas the same place.
Seen so many places now that have the gasoline/ fast food saves time.
The "easy on, easy off" is CRUCIAL for having a successful trip. Nothing worse than having to drive through neighborhoods of a city you have no clue about because you couldn't get back on freeway heading the same direction where you had exited.

As someone who drives long distances often (1000+ miles for work) I can attest that this is all 100% fact. Find a big name gas station that has fresh food where you can take care of food, gas, piss in one 20 minute stop!
2nd shift is also referred to as midshift and it generally is like 11-7. Covers lunch and dinner.

“Whatever the fuck” lol
Cornette’s quotes
Cornette fucking rules just for using the two I-65 exits I frequent the most.
Dairy Queen takes forever too, especially in the Summer due to the bespoke ice cream orders. They have the best “fast food,” fries.
Exit 38 represent! That Wendy's at the Corvette museum exit is a pain in the ass.
Corny's absolutely right about that, you need to time shit so you're hitting fast food between 10:30/11:15 AM, or between 2:30-4:30 PM, or you're hitting rush hour. I've done a shit load of driving, and if you can hit those time slots and manage so you are going INTO a city around 6 PM so the after-work crowd is mostly on the other side of the highway, you'll make decent time.
Also, shout out to the Bowling Green exit in KY, miss you granny Bea.
Whenever Brian asked about the worst and best drive-thru, I immediately thought Steak N Shake. So glad Jim agrees.
I've heard stories on Bobby Eaton and his duffle bag which had everything in it. Is this true?
