Jim cuts a promo on Goodwill😂 Really they're not supposed to to take used mattresses anywhere because of bed bugs. There is no way to resell it without risking lawsuits etc if someone got bed bugs or lice from buying a used mattress.
But the goodwill guy said if it had the box springs they could take it.

It's not often fun being a charity worker. I'm from a St Vincent De Paul's in Australia.
Management have no concept of charity and try too much to run it like a business, so they're often screwing over your local poor with the way you're made to run the store (like they've discussed closing our furniture section down because it's not profitable enough despite what it does for the local community) to supposedly help other poor people living wherever else at best and they're wasting money on consultants and other pointless crap at worst.
The locals often take advantage of you by donating absolute garbage because they're too cheap to pay their own tip fees and they abuse you if you dare turn down their cracked and dirty lounge. Plus some of them expect you to deliver stuff up flights of stairs and around tight corners like you're a furniture removalist getting top wages when most of you are volunteers.
Goodwill pays their CEO almost $1000000 a year, While most of the employees are volunteers. It's better to donate to the Salvation Army!

As someone who volunteers with a not for profit agency, I am offended for Mr. Cornette. I would never offend a donor in such a way. I would ask that you consider the Society of St. Vincent DePaul. We are always happy to bridge the gap between a giving person and, a person in need. As a fan I am offended, as a community volunteer, I am embarassed.

Goodwill is a for-profit organization. Ppl donate their inventory for free, then they sell it for profit.
But they sell stuff so cheaply, it's usually a very good deal for poor folk, I have purchased a few items there.

GoodWill doesnt trust the independent judgement of the people who collect donations ( usually perps doing community service btw ) so they have a blanket policy on items they wont take.
Same as this, they dont take TVs because they dont want old style tube TVs that noone will buy and will cost a couple of bucks to recycle if not sold due to the contents inside being somewhat hazardous to direct contact.
Since they dont take TVs , they will also not take a 70 inch curved flatscreen New in the box either. Might as well be a 1970 B&W that weighs 600 lbs.
If flatscreen is accepted its only because the collector is gonna try to get it into their own car somehow.
i have seen tons of tvs in goodwills in boston where i stayed,CRT and normal and monitors.
Not only does no TV weigh 600 pounds but also no 1970 BMW in conclusion not a great comparison

They didn't want the mattress without the box springs because they wouldn't be able to sell it. I once tried to donate a bed and a couch to the Salvation Army thinking they would give it to a family in need but they didn't want them because they told me they wouldn't be able to sell them. After that, I have never looked at them the same again.

The money goes to helping people with disabilities get training and other work relatedcskills. And help find jobs . sovwe can become. Productive. Me personally had a stroke in 2001 that left me partially paralized. I went through the program with goodwill and they helped me put together my resume and work on job interviewing skills and i have been employed now for many years and am very thankful for them.

I've worked for several charities in my life and I'm telling you that that's why they won't take used mattresses. If people knew what kind of nasty stuff is in used mattresses, they'd stop trying to donate them.
